  • Here's how to easily install a hardhat liner suspension device into your DEVO Energy Dome. I'll use professional gaff tape, just as DEVO themselves have used over the years, which will allow you to easily adjust/replace the hardhat liner.
BTW: You'll have plenty of room to add a DEVO PPE Face Shield to the dome, too.

And NOW I am ready to hang with the other spuds in my energy dome topped glory at my first Devo show this Saturday in Chicago. Thank you!

Like a good spud, I now have my Energy Dome situated for the 80’s Cruise. Thank you for this tutorial. Are we not men? We are DEVO!

So this is the magic that keeps those domes on their heads.

Hi Michael. Great video, although I’m a little disappointed. Got to the end and you never modelled it :) Duty now and be DE-VOlved

Thanks for this. Had my Energy Dome for about a year now and It's been driving me crazy how it wouldn't stay on. Didn't want to put anything too permanent in it, so I waited until I found a guide like this. Thanks for posting.

I bought some insulating foam that is adhesive on one side. Originally compressed, it expanded to about 3/4" in height. Perhaps not as stable as the suspension kit, but it was much faster and kept the EG on my head without much fuss 😎

Bought an energy dome at the LA show (it was great!). Thanks for the how-to! Now I’m off to order the MSA suspension…

Awesome how to guide. I was going nuts trying to figure out the best wat to mount the liner in my energy dome and Michael delivers! Thanks mucho. I used duct tape (yes i know i'm cheap) put it on my head and the look on my granddaughter's 11yo face was priceless.

Nice! I used double-sided butyl tape as I had that handy. [I also have the exact same gaff tape but wanted to try something with a smaller footprint]. The butyl is just enough to cover the tabs, so none of it is visible and importantly, won't snag hair :D Worked great for their show at TH-cam Theater a couple weeks ago!
Today I learned there are four types of butyl, and I've no idea what kind I have and it 'should' be safe on the plastic, but I am concerned about a chemical reaction... if it's no bueno, then I'll gladly buy another Energy Dome from Club Devo!

I am pissing myself having just ordered my DEVO Energy Dome. I'm 63 and have to get about using a walker. I cannot wait to go grocery shopping wearing my new COVID face shield and am even more excited to be wearing it the night of the presidential election - assuming it arrives on time. I had gaff tape, and tried it first. When I bought mine, there were no links to the Staz-On MSA hard hat suspension replacement, at least not what I noticed if there was, but in the instruction pdf it didn't recommend a particular one, but it did suggest not to use the ones with the round adjustment knob. After looking ad nauseam at literally hundreds online, I decided to ignore that, and got a cheap 3m adjustable model for $8. I was using it a lot with the PPE shield, and the tape was just not stable enough with the shield attached. I really like the adjustment knob, as then it is easy to let others use it, and with the shield, it is great to be able to easily loosen it, and then tighten it a bit, as the tape was always getting a little loose with use, and I had to keep pressing it back. I decided to use a great craft glue you can find anywhere, E6000, which I use for everything - plastics, juggling clubs, metal, ceramics, cloth..... I am glad I didn't know the warning not to, because I probably would have heeded it, and not used this great all purpose craft glue. But I did, and it is soooooo much better, and cleaner than the tape. No damage whatsoever to the dome. None. Nada. And I used it very generously. I glued one of the attachments a day, cutting a common wooden single use chopstick to make a spacer to apply just enough pressure across the diameter to hold it in place while it dried (you don't have to wait that long, but it is best to be patient for the dome, and it is loving energy). Now the dome, with the extra weight of the sheild, is very stable, and is easily adjusted on the fly, which is a great feature. I wish I could add some pictures here for you. I would add the location - the second tier of the dome - in the pdf instuctions, as that was the only thing that is confusing if that is all you have and you don't find this youtube. But it is discoverable anyway, but just not apparent right away. So tape works, for sure, but I am glad I went the other route.
