Great guide with simple and understandable comments to add to clarity. Will do the maintenance on my old 2011 Sony Vaio on my free time. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the upload, I have the same exact laptop but for some reason I can't lift the fan because it seems like there's something holding it down like a piece of tape.
Thanks for this guide. Decided to service a very old Sony Vaio laptop (2010 I think) but it handles windows 10 surprisingly well (apart from the battery not charging), so I thought it was worth re-pasting. Not sure I woulda tried without this video. Just hope temps are ok when I got it back in one piece.
Thank you for this video, it was very helpful, I was able to fix my wife's overheating Vaio (VPC-EE3E1E). Just a note, BE VERY CAREFUL when removing the old thermal paste. When I was cleaning the old thermal paste, I accidentally smeared it on a chip close to the processor surface and I couldn't get it out (it was under the very tiny chip). I was worried if it was electrically conductive, because then I could never fix it again. Luckily, it seems that the paste Sony use (on this model at least) is not electrically conductive.
Well thanks a lot. Clear tuto step by step. Im still a bit afraid to proceed coz I got no choice but pay a fortune to get it repair. Thanks again and complments for quality of your video
Thanks for the detailed guide. Really helpful. However after finishing this exercise, the computer turns off after few seconds. What could have gone wrong?
You are fantastic👌👌 i followed the steps just like u mentioned..opening case took time like one hour break included😝 but since i had kept screws next to laptop at same position. Putting it back took like few mins. Now the noise is gone n workin perfectly. Thanks again n keep up the good work👍
I did it, thaks do much. Faced problem while pulling the fan connector, I didn't know how to do it, but I just pulled it gently and pushed it while connecting haha.
Thank you so much for your precise instructions :) The video was pleasant in all aspects, from your clear presentation all the way to the tips. It was a lot of fun to tinker with my laptop knowing I won't mess anything up :D
Thanks for this instructional video,i'll post some feedback when i dissassembly mine in some days. By the way,are you using some special place to put all these laptop parts?Do you have to ground yourself somehow?Wouldn't want to fry my motherboard because of static electricity :P
i Always ground myself before i start, fortunately i have never had any problems ESD related, but it never hurts to use a groundstrap while working with electronics.i dont use any special place to put the parts, just on the table i am working on, you can use antistatic bags to prevent static electricity damage, but like i said before, i never had any problems. i have wood floors here, not carpet so that also helps.
I know there are models that have 3 plates on the heatpipe, i assume its the chipset (southbridge / north bridge) because i highly doubt that its the graphics chip. They would not get away without cooling the graphics chip, so i assume its the chipset. its eather one of them, or graphics or chipset.anyway, if it has paste on it, it cannot hurt to replace it.
hi, thanks for your video. yesterday i removed the CPU heatsink and serviced the fan, applied new thermal paste etc. however the result is not that good. CPU temperature is still around 50 degree at idle, and around 60 degree when watching any youtube video, cpu fan almost running all the time. I was hoping after cleaning the heatsink would do a better job like when it was new, so that the fan does not need to kick in and operate (which is noisy) most of the time. what is the normal CPU temperature on your machine? is the fan operating often?
Clean a so dirty fan, helps of course, but this laptop series lack an effective cooling system. Even after cleaned everything, its fan still remain loud when starts.
Thanks for the video! I have a question - Is it compulsory to apply a new layer of heating compound when replacing the fan? Or can you simply remove the fan, clean heatsink/fan/vents and then screw it back on? Thanks!
@@Tom-rd5no Hey, unfortunately if you remove the fan you will need to replace the thermal paste as it ruins the bond. The old thermal paste on the bottom of the copper pads and on the heat sink can easily be removed with rubbing alcohol and a cloth. There are videos on how to apply the new thermal paste, but all you have to do is make a pea sized drop on the middle of the chip. Hope I helped :)
this laptop has no mxm slot for grafics i guess ? so u think u can still upgrade to a better one ? looks like u can change the gpu chip easily , am i correct ? thx i already upgraded the cpu ^^
Thanks for the video. I have opened my vaio as you shown. I have just used copreesed air to clean it. Dinnt dismount anything. Unfourtunatly my speakers are now not working. Mayby u know the solution to this problem?
depending on the state of the old paste, you can try to leave it on and reinstall the heatsink. but who cannot get thermalpaste, ebay is full of it. i recomend replacing the heatsink compound.
Hello Sir, thanks for uploading the video. Can you please tell the model number of fan,so that i can buy this from ebay/ Amazon for my laptop ?. Much waiting for your reply
hi. I cleaned up the fan of my laptop and followed every step but when I finished, it's not opening anymore. it's only having the green light on the power button blinking. what should I do? please help. thanks a lot
well, i assume it was working before you did anything, so something must have happened during your work on it.i can only say carefully check all steps you did and check every connector, memory module, or other things you have touched.for the rest i cannot think of anything else.

and reapplying thermal paste is a must...
