This was brilliant. I was born in MK and raised in Conniburrow. I now live in Boston, USA so to put the MK i knew into context for my mates over here, this video was perfect. The footage of the inside of the Point was nostalgic. What a town it was to grow up in, looks & feels vastly different yet oddly quite similar.
You never forget your roots of being born and raised in Milton Keynes and it stays in your heart no matter where you live in the world. You live in Boston USA (been there as well, really nice city) and I live somewhere in Eastern Europe but we are MK Boys through and through. MK has changed a lot over the years but it will always be my hometown and yours.
Lived in Conniburrow, MK Central and Down's Barn... used to go Clubbing at Ultra Vegas in the Winter Gardens and worked at HMV.... married a girl from Bletchley :)
What a time to be alive, 1993 was a great year, used to go to the weekly Rock club in The Point on a Thursday night, other nights we would just cruise around the City (like you boys) and take the occasional visit to Sams Kebabs or over to Jeff's van outside the Blacksmiths on Downs Barn. Doesnt seem like 5 minutes ago seeing this awesome footage so thankyou for letting me relive it once again!
Jon - Thanks. Yes, Sam Kebabs made the best burgers. Used to go there in the evening during the week. Out of interest, you mention Jeff's Van outside the Blacksmiths. My older brother is called Jeff and had a burger van around that time. He used to be outside the cinema at Bletchley and Razzells in Bletchley. I did ask I'm if he ever did go outside the Blacksmiths but he said he can't remember. Even though the video is more personal to me and my friend in it, it's nice to see so many people enjoying the memories. I guess I didn't do anything different than what other people did; driving our cars, hanging out with friends having a good time. No mobile phones, no internet, living at home with your parents.
Thanks for putting this up brings back memories - Tunes - clothes - cars - city centre - point - winter gardens - if you got anymore please put it up lol
I remember back when the shopping centre opened (79) it felt quite space aged and clean and there wasn't anything else like it. It had palm trees inside, by the 90s it was starting to show it's age. Fond memories of "The Point" it was an iconic building, even if the spacial design of it was completely flawed :) It's due to be demolished soon (if not already)
So hard to imagine that the bit where “the new bit”/midsummer place is currently, that you just drive right on through past what’s now the holiday inn. So strange!
Hi Leonard, This is another excellent video of MK, the cars that were on the road have changed and this video is an excellent piece of history of life back then. There were more socialising and a very lively atmosphere. Life was much more simpler and everything in the video shows all buildings are all clean than it is today as there way more traffic on the roads, chaos, a lot more to relying on phones, vandalism, loads of negative events like covid, wars and cost of living crisis. Though you don't work for EM any more instead Please can you do a driving tour of this place from the outside using same routes for us to see please? Thanks for the posting this and I look forward for more videos!
Love this, brought back some great memories (and not so good ones of trying to park!). I worked at Touche Ross at the same time, but on the 2nd floor and cannot remember the chap in the video, but it was such a blast seeing the old office.
Man this got me all emotional I miss these days so much. The night time drive made me realise that I was a 13 year old lad at home in eagle stone at this moment. Man those were the good old days👍🏻🥲
Great video with some great memories of how Milton Keynes used to look. I haven't read all the comments so I apologise if someone else has pointed this out earlier, but unless I am very much mistaken it sounds like you were playing NOW That's What I Call Music volume 18 in the car whilst you were driving around during the day (up to around the 18 minute mark of the video). Judging by the tunes played in the background it would have been Disc 2 as all of those tracks all appeared on Disc 2 of NOW 18. A moment in time nicely captured there and thanks for sharing.
@@LeeAdamsful it might have been. I had a cd player and technics tape deck. So we would have recorded cd to tape or done mixes. Need to check the play list. Glad you like the video.
Wow! This really takes me back. Feels like yesterday I was standing in the Point cinema waiting for my girlfriend to show up. So strange how much has changed in those years, and yet so much of it is still there. Feels like they've actually done a good job of maintaining the spirit of the city without it becoming too "different". Although, I have to admit, the loss of the Point will be a major blow to the city and our nostalgia. Thanks for sharing this, was a lovely trip down memory lane.
Great video. Crazy to see Dave Stephen so young. I worked in Evesham technology in Witan Court about 7 years after this. Can’t believe that the showroom was the same for 10 years 👍🏼
Initially thought this was earlier than 1993 but like your other commenter noted, there is the new looking L reg Peugeot 306 and also a Mondeo parked at the station, so this would be late 1993. Getting my head around this is now 31 years ago. What happened to Rachel >
Oh. My. Goodness! This video!!! :-O :-O I worked right there, at Evesham Micros, very close to the time this was filmed! I reckon I was there around the summer of '94! - it was a part time Saturday job, I was still in 6th form. For me personally, the fact that this video even exists (of the showroom, the storeroom and office) - I find astonishing. That I randomly happened to have stumbled on this youtube clip - has utterly blown my mind :-D @leonard, I don't think we met (if we did, it was in passing, and I don't remember you) ... as I think you were only there weekdays. This is so poignant. I lived in MK from 1980- 1995, 25 when I left. So you’ve captured the last ‘moments’ of my life there perfectly. I’ve not been back to that part of MK since - so in my head it’s still like this 😄
Glad you like it. It has changed a lot but the memories are still there. The main shopping centre is pretty much the same, same roads, same trees etc. Lots of new buildings and what were nice places to live, now they are run down. But that is normal for 25 years. At least we are a proper City now.
Driving down midsummer blvd past the point- shame you can’t do that now as they built midsummer place there! And great to see Marks and Spencer being built- I always forget this wasn’t an original part of the centre

I love this so much...thank you for capturing this and sharing. I have a question as I've been doing a little of my own research. Do you recall a Bath & Body Works store opening or being around in 1994 in Milton Keynes? I have a TH-cam channel about Bath & Body Works and I love mall/retail history. I had purchased some 90s photographs of a Bath & Body Works store that I assumed was in America (since it's mainly an American store) but the caption says it was in Milton Keynes. The only Milton Keynes mall I can find is in the UK (you never know...sometimes US names things after UK stuff so I wasn't sure haha) If there was a Bath & Body Works store there during the 90s, my understanding is that Milton Keynes now only has a pop up Bath & Body Works situation rather than a full store. So I'm just trying to piece this together...any insight of your memories would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again for sharing this video, I loved watching it! 😊
Hi, I happened to see your comment as I stumbled across this video. I lived in MK from 1979 - 2003. There was definitely a Bath and body works store that opened in the shopping centre (around 1994/95) but I remember it being there for a very short time until it closed down. The only reason I remember is because my mum loved one of the products, which I still pick up for her now when I visit the US. Hope that helps!

Do you remember which product specifically you would get for her? That's sweet! Thanks again!
