You guys must have nerves of steel, strong legs and be very sure footed. Crossing those streams on nothing but skinny little trees, scary. Even in the small streams the water was so fast moving! Fantastic views, many beautiful waterfalls and flowers. So sad to see the burned areas. Enjoyed following you on this hike, thanks for taking us with you!
Hey Will. I have done this whole trail and several sections of it... Never ceases to amaze me. Also after summiting Hood stopped at Mt. Hood Brewery and had a pint. Cheers and thanks for taking us along
Great videos of this trail Will! Finally got to sit down and watch them both. You did an awesome job of capturing the beauty and life of the trail. Excellent work!
So many beautiful spots on the second half of the trail. So tempting to stop and soak it in. The flowers near the Meadows lodge were unreal when we passed through. Amazing shots as always dude --
You inspired me to go on a small hike. Made a selfie stick out of a ski pole not realizing I had my dad's trekking poles. Used a poor quality cam though. Just uploaded it on my channel.
Living in Florida, many of the park trails that I have around here are full sand and I can’t stand it. I don’t envy that last claim that you guys just did. Beautiful hike though!
You guys walked thru 2 different burn areas. The first was Dollar Lake Fire (lightning, 2011.) The second was Gnarl Fire (lightning, 2008.) The transition between the 2 burns was basically Eliot Creek. Sweet fire history maps = gacc.nifc.gov/nwcc/predict/gis.aspx (click) Large Fire Interactive Map link then (click) Layers in Legend then check the NWCC Fire History box and a limited historical overlay for the NW appears.
At 2:08 mark on your video you are seeing the Dollar fire, 2011. If you use gaiagps.com app, you can download a US wildfire overlay. I was at Cloudcap on the fri/sat in august 2011, just 24 hours after the fire started by a downstrike during a thunderstorm. That weekend the two historic cabins were open to the public. (Annual event required by FS for the owners of those cabins) On that Saturday, I asked a Forest Service employee at cloudcap, why they weren’t putting resources on that fire. His response, quite full of hubris, ‘oh, its really wet over there, it’s (the fire) not going anywhere’. The rest they say, is history. idiots.
The northwest, north and northeast sections of that hike are just out of this world. I love that volcano so much. Living near it has been an honor.

Man, some of those river crossings looked like, at some point, there is a ton of water that comes down! Beautiful area Will! Thanks brother!
