Star Wars Reading Club That video sounds interesting. I have my own thoughts, now that you mention the possibility. Something like Palpatine and Vader still die, but the Empire crushes the Rebellion after some years. I wonder how close my ideas will be to your What if scenario.
Star Wars Reading Club Is this "What if..." video supposed to be if they adopted better TIEs instead of going full Death Star mode? Because, honestly, if Thrawn had his way and they had focused on TIE Defenders instead of the Death Star, it would have decentralized their power making them much more difficult to defeat. In that scenario, I think the Empire would have dominated the galaxy far longer than they ultimately did. Looking forward to what you come up with! :-)

I dont think Tarkin was necessarily afraid of Vader but more surprised at the fact two dudes just outta nowhere got force pushed into a wall and i say that because he was still offering to protect Palpatine from Vader by staying with him to keep Palpatine safe somehow.
Not only that but it was kind of the other way around. Vader considered Tarkin at the very least to be an intellectual equal and at most, his intellectual superior. Vader also obeyed Tarkin's orders as he was technically his superior whenever they were in the same vicinity. I.e. whenever Vader was on Tarkin's turf.
Though I think what's more important is their respect for one another's prowess. Vader being a master combatant and force wielder, Tarkin being a brilliant military tactician and rounded intellectual.
Yeah, I don't like the idea of Tarkin being afraid of Vader. Seeing Tarkin surprised is already a rare occurrence, he was a man that tried to know everything and have control of any situation. I don't think he would even let out a sign of fear.

Jhin just because he wanted to try to stay and protect palpatine doesn't mean he wasn't terrified of Vader, that's what people call bravery.

It was surprise more then fear! The art shows, he was going for a blaster and that the sound of the guards hitting the glass cut off his sentence! He is going into a fighting stance, Mas Amedda is scared. Look at the how his is hiding behind the Emperor. The Tarkin book explains the upbringing of Tarkin, in short to say he was scared of Vader is a stretch! Nothing in the Tarkin book points to Tarkin being scared of anything at this point in his life! You can even look at his portrayal in the clone wars series. No Fear! In a new hope, cold, calculating and ruthless... No fear, even seconds before his own death! Fearless!
I love the little details in this canon. Mas Amedda is giving Tarkin a hard time about the Death Star, and he does that exact same thing in Tarkin. It is part of the dynamic fostered by the Emperor to make his advisors and most trusted staff constantly keeping themselves in competition with each other and mistrustful enough that they never plotted against him. This is the same reason the Emperor called for this update the moment Vader would return. He wanted them to see Vader for the first time like this. Power moves only.

I think that during an episode of the Clone Wars, Anakin and Obi-Wan went on a mission after a fleet was downed, to rescue a Jedi master and the Admiral of the fleet. The Admiral turned out to be Tarkin. We could see him and Anakin agreeing about various tactics and military philosophies.
The Meeting in The Comics was much Better in my Opinion. It Shows how Darth Vader is a Man to be Feared and Not to be Messed with and how even a man as Ruthless as Tarkin could feel fear

The thing this scene in the comic made me the most excited for is Vader's Sith training. Sidious seems so pleased and proud of his new apprentice. Can't wait to see more like that

I always thought that scene at the end of rots implied he was quite used to Vader by that point. The way he promptly yet unstartled tuned and left makes it seem like he knows what to do when Vader approaches the emperor.

Anyone noticed an error on the first screenshot? In Rogue, the dish was being installed but the screen shot at 0:25 showed the dish is under construction.

I would think Tarkin was shocked that after all the Jedi were destroyed, there was suddenly whole new Force user in his midst, while he had believed all who could use the Force were dead. Considering this, wasn't he not aware of the Emperor being a Sith?

I'll stick to the meeting between the two overlooking the skeleton of the Death Star as one it happened in ROTS as well as the ROTS novel which is still canon.
JediAcolyte22 You could say that the overlooking the death star happened AFTER this comic, I mean they already recommend Maul's death which was mentioned in the TPM novelization.
I don't think I ever realized that Tarkin was in the ep III ending. If that's a screenshot from the film shown on this video, it should've been obvious. Anyway, episodes 1-3 fit together with 4-6 like two of the same magnet poles, no wonder if I hadn't thought further than "they're using the OT designs and costumes here for nostalgia points, okay" during that scene.
They met before this when Anakin/vader was still a jedi. During the clone wars when he and Obi-Wan rescued him from the citadel.

The fact Tarkin lived showed how much Tarkin had the brains to take care of himself and the balls to look Vader in the eye as an equal and not really care if Vader likes it or not. He knew he was a boss and it's a shame he dies in the first movie ):

Did tarkin have his right hand on some device during the scene when vader barged in? Was it some kind of weapon do you think? It is is tarkin and he did seem like he was willing to stand his ground.
In the Clone Wars series, Anakin meets Tarkin in one of the later episodes. Though he wasn't Vader at the time, it's still the first time they met I suppose. Good video btw
Actually if you showed the rest of the panels in the comic you'd see Vader turn back as a Jedi and him actually kill palaptine. Everything you showed was just a vision he had while trying to corrupt his kyber Crystal

The third episode gives the impression the weapon plates were added piece by piece. Rogue One gives the impression the dish was pieced in as a whole.

Tarkin doesn't fear anyone; he's a sociopath of the nth degree. The Vizier was afraid, which was evident by clutching his chest. Tarkin was taken surprised - Vader used Tarkin to threaten minister Tua in the animated show Rebels.

I'd think his shock came from two rather intimidating guards being tossed like rag dolls rather than the sight of Vader with his crude repairs. Tarkin knows those guards are elite forces. Only the best to act as the Emperor's bodyguards. Yet to Vader they were nothing at all.

Vaders goggles break in the modern comics more than Lucas and I would like. Vaders suit was clunky but it was still tech from a galaxy far far away. I would think that the goggles glass would be reinforced or unbreakable. I'd bet Vader himself would've rectified the problem the first time they broke being that he was the main repairer and modifier of his armor. Also I know he's the chosen one but he couldn't have force shielded his eyes every time his mask is destroyed.

It was a big mistake not to include the Moffs in the prequels. Outside of novels and comics, we never get a good idea of what the Moffs are or what they do.

Vader met Tarkin long before this. While he was still a Jedi during The Clone Wars Anakin was charged with escorting Tarkin off of a hostile planet.

Why did Vader force push the royal guards?
They should have met during Attack of the Clones. Tarkin should have been clone wars battle hero and young general with many successful campaigns.
Anakin should have been placed under Tarkin and Tarkin should have accepted Sidious as Sith Lord and Emporer as like Anakin, Tarkin feels that democracy is a wasted effort a wise leader should rule.
But didn't they meet in clone wars?
Anikin grew up as a Cis gendered white male jedi, but thanks to Palpatine he was able to transition to a sad angry robot who had a choking fetish.

Skywalker, yes. Vader? No. They are very much two different characters who happen to share a body. Once Anakin became Vader, that was it. Any discernible traces of Anakin vanished.
