      To me it looks like the road widened before narrowing slightly. Philipsen was just maintaining a straight line, ie the shortest distance between him and the line. It would help if the organisers finished a sprint stage with a straight, erm, finishing straight! Which is entirely possible on a wide slightly curved road.

    3:35 Philipsen exactly in the middle of the road.
    3:40 Philipsen almost at the barrier with barely a rider's width in between.
    What is this? He didn't keep his line at all. If he starts his sprint in the middle of the road and a corner is coming up, then he was ill positioned and has no right to block other riders.

      How he had judged to have won the sprint when he clearly deviated off his own sprint line to take the racing line of the circuit. He should have left a bike width to his right as he crossed the finish.
      The argument would have been that he didn't leave the same gap between himself, Van Aerts and the right side at the start of his sprint to the line. Still no point Van Aerts risking it on the 3rd day with another possible Sprint opportunity for day 4.

    Cracking textbook sprint but all those roads in France and the organisers can’t mark out a pure straight finishing line for around 250 metres? The finish line itself didn’t even look to be at right angles to the sprinting line. It looked to be at right angles to the edge of a curved road, which is not the same thing.

      in the full overhead shot you can see philipsen keeps hugging the barriers on the right all the way until the finish line, he even nearly crashes into the barriers himself right before the line. yes he can take the fastest lane to the finish, thats why he slid over to the right at the bend, but after the bend the fastest lane is straight and not continuing to follow the barriers. it seems clear to me that his priority was to make sure to close out van aert, not to take the fastest lane to the finish line

People assuming every error or minor lapse in judgement is some ill-intentioned, purposeful act meant to harm others. The barriers were set up like trash, it wasn't a straightforward run-in, and mass sprints are always going to be hectic at the best of times. They're putting out world class watts at ungodly speeds and everyone in the comments acting like it should be a perfectly clean and simplistic affair with no movement whatsoever. It's just racing, it's always going to be crazy. Wout literally threw a bottle onto the ground and into the wheels of all the riders behind him yesterday... who the f*ck is he to be getting sympathy about "safety" less than 24hrs later? I don't care about Wouts bottle throw but find the level of hypocrisy and bias in the comments section hilarious.

      He rode a straight line through a curve and the barriers came out toward the course at the apex of the turn.

      Macron is a young global leader graduate of uncle Schwab's den of freaks , so it is all by design , to destroy the middle class furthermore and usher in the smart cities ! It is funny , i have never seen those hoodlums along the route , they are just not interested in bike racing ! Cheers , my friend !

      They spent 20 minutes looking at it and decided he didn't. It was poor course design for the current UCI sprinting rules.

  • @lunarsabbatical7906
    @lunarsabbatical7906 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wout could have kept his sprint and let Jasper crash him into the barrier and jasper would have been relegated but Wout was smart and didn’t want to get injured. This was definitely intentional by jasper and he got a hand slap and the victory everyone knows who should have won

  • @BRMCaptChaos
    @BRMCaptChaos ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Its fairly simple to measure distance to barrier even when going around a corner. JP got away with one there, WvA playing it long.

    • @SatrnOne
      @SatrnOne ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not about the distance to the barrier, is about going straight toward the finish line. Jasper to the straightest route to the finish line, which is what the UCI wants sprinters to do. The problem was that the course wasn't straight.

    Watching the replies of the final sprint, still waiting for the outcome , gotta say, listening to GCN and guests on eurosport the benefit of actual sprinters explaining.. something the judges don't listen to.. he did not push the other rider. They cycled relative to the course in a straight line..hopefully he keeps his 1st place

    • @SatrnOne
      @SatrnOne ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, they deliberated for a full 20 minutes. They better stick to their ruling because they had more than enough time to relegate him, of they wanted to.

    Wrong decision from UCI again, such a dangerous sprint end

    • @SatrnOne
      @SatrnOne ปีที่แล้ว

      It was dangerous because the UCI dictates that they need to sprint in a straight line, but then allow finishes that include a curve in the last 100 meters.

    I don't understand this stubbornness of the race organizers to generally want to make sprint finishes with a curve less than 300m or even 200m from the line. It's dangerous and in addition it boils down to a war of placement to whoever will approach the curve first.

    The barriers jutted out so made it look worse than it was..bad barrier design so close to the finish. Blame the organisers for that one I think. Ps..if you have ever rode a bike you tend to not openly leave gaps for riders to pass you
