Avocados grown from seed will not grow true to the mother and take somewhere bewteen 10 to 15 years to fruit and may never fruit. Get a grafted avocado or plant the seed and then graft it yourself from a grafted avocado tree if you know someone who has one.

We love your channel. My wife buys Avocados at the store as our climate won't let us grow them. They are not cheap and can get very pricey at times. When my wife buys several of them because of the price she can slow the ripening by putting them in the refrigerator. It allows us to use them as needed so that they don't over ripe before use. It really helps us during the winter. Sometimes the Avocados are so hard and take quite a bit of time to ripen, but usually within 5 days they turn quickly. We love them every morning in smoothies and sometimes at night in salads.

Hi Mark, that avo at 2:03 looked like the perfect specimen. If only we could grow em here in the UK. Years ago when I lived abroad as a kid in a country that had a very warm climate... my dad grew an avo tree from seed. He nurtured it, planted the seedling and took care of the plant until it was about 3 ft high and was just starting to form it's first fruit..... then we left and moved back to the UK. Aarrrggghhh - so we almost grew an avocado from start to finish. Cheers Adam

I have 2 grafted avo trees. I cut a branch off one to get a main centre trunk. It’s doing well and is quite tall. The other also looks to have a branch that I could remove. It’s looking more bushy though and I have staked it and have them tied to this stake. The branches don’t look as strong as the other tree. Should I take off the weaker branch?

Better way to check for ripeness without bruising the fruit if it’s not ripe yet. Hold in you hand with the fruit up right. Where the stem entered into the fruit use your thumb while holding the fruit. Put your thumb where the stem entered and push it down a bit the ripper the fruit the easier to push the flesh in. This has never failed me yet. So when the shops have 2-$5 bucks or those kinds of deals I can get one for now and one for later. If you can’t push the flesh in at all don’t get it. It’ll take weeks to get ripe. I get one that is slightly soft, and one that’s very soft. Especially if I’m using one within a couple days. Then the others ready in about a week. My wife likes them with her chicken anything. If you only use half of one. Leave the seed in and in a container or sandwich bag of water make sure it’s under the water. No air getting to it and it will give you 2 or 3 days before it goes brown to eat it. I usually use that one and make like a spread out of it. Just smash it up with a fork.

Never squeeze or poke an Avocado! End of story. When the stem butt is loose and wiggly insert a toothpick next to it. If it goes in without the end pricking your finger. Bingo. If not you havnt ruined your Avo.
