Yep only bird who could compete with the blokes and missed out on a world championship by a whisker and not because of talent Iirc finishing one rally on 3 wheels with fabria perched on bonnet to balance the car. One of the great drivers and competitors in any motorsport
Perhaps Helene Delangle could claim to be the best woman driver with 15 grand Prix in 20s and 30s with some great results - the original Bugatti Queen !
So good to see this coverage, she needs to be spoken about more. Not for being one of the forerunners of women racers, for being one of the greatest overall drivers, ever. 🤘🔥😎🔥🤘
Just for seeing her behind the wheel of that car, even at her present age, sends shivers down my spine and plasters a wide grin all over my face. One of the greatest drivers of all time,- right up there with Rörhl and Vatanen.
❤️Ah, our Queen! ❤️ My greatest moment in rallying was getting a personal meeting with Michelle at Rally Australia after assisting with crowd control on dirt bikes, and introducing 2 of my adult sons to her. Michelle still has fire behind her eyes and was lovely to talk with for over 1/4 of an hour. A truly wonderful experience for us.
One of the best drivers in history along with one of the best co-drivers in history with probably the most badass cars in history. These women raced 500+ hp machine on unprepared surfaces with little to no safety. This is why modern racing will never be the same as back in the recent past.
In 1982 I saw Michele Mouton and Hannu Mikola in Swedish Rally. There was only these two competing, rest was left far behind. There was a enormous difference in acceleration in snow between Audi and rest of two wheel drive. Like the jet era begins, jet-plane vs WWII spitfire.
I grew up in NZ, and every May I would look forward to the Ashley Forest Rally Sprint, featuring (among many home-built specials with tractor and combine harvester parts...) Malcolm Stewart's Audi quattro. He's a legend of NZ grassroots motorsport, and what a treat to have the legend Michèle Mouton come to NZ to drive the quattro (and a hot Escort). Thanks to DirtFish for posting this - more NZ footage please! RIP Malcolm, and long live the quattro!
I remember when she raced in the NZ rally. One of the stages finished in our town and this was when you could repair cars at anytime, so every team had their service teams in town. Use to watch it every year, the sound of those cars and the way they threw them around, miss those days.
In September 2000, I attended the ALMS race at PIR here in Portland where Audi finished 1-2. Immediately afterward, I was speed walking to the winner's circle with an Audi banner (flag really) and pen to ask for driver autographs. Walking directly towards me, by herself, was a striking brunette who pointed back behind her and said to me "Those are the people you want" (or something to that effect). It took me about 1 second to realize that she was Michele Mouton, and I have kicked myself ever since that I didn't turn around and call out to her as I'm sure she was unrecognized by everyone there. I did get my banner personally autographed by 'Dindo' Capello and Allan McNish (car #77), and Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro (car #78). I still have the banner, but I would have been so honored to have Ms. Mouton's autograph on it beside the others. Apparently, she was there in some capacity with, or as a guest of, Audi.
I was in high school in the early 80's, and lucky enough to drive an Audi 4000. It wasn't a Quattro, but because of what Michele could do with an Audi, I pushed that thing! Michele, Fabrizia, and the Quattro ...What a team...One of the greats! And I grew up in the USA where we didn't have Rally's, but because she's such a bad a**, car people knew who she was!
Too much talk about her being the greatest female rally driver. She should remembered as one of world rallying's greatest drivers full stop. Should of been world champion it was a sad situation she had to return home because her father had died which also meant she missed a round of the championship which cost her the title ultimately.😢😢😢. Audi Quattro & Michelle mouton dream combination.
Supercar blonde - what people think I mean when I say I like girls who are into cars. Michele Mouton - what I really mean when I say I like girls who are into cars.
I love the way she picks up the inside rear @ the end of clip, one of the true masters of the sport . RESPECT one of the true greats ! cheers from down under.
She is (with) the only woman I bow to. She gave everything in Life and for this Sport. Today she will show the Newcomers who is the Boss in the Ring. I hope she stays with us for a very long time. Thanks for all the Emotions 😎❤
michelle is one of the few examples where you don't need to differentiate between gender. absolutely she's the best female driver in history, but she's also one of the best drivers in history. she was a fucking beast in her day
What a great pair of ladies who made history and without that era rallying wouldn’t be as entertaining as it is The flying machines of the day that where band have been replaced with supersonic cars of today 👍👨🏻🏭🇬🇧
Since 1983 actually :) In 1984 Stig and Hannu competed mainly with the "long" A2, and Michele and Walter mostly on the brand new Sport Quattro :) But in 1983 they were all in the long A1/A2 - but it's many years, we can forgive her that little mistake ;) A true legend, Michele...
i love that she owned those "rude" monikers the press gave her at the time and just overcame it all. I kind of like "der schwarze Vulkan" (The Black Volcano) though. it speaks to her fierce and competitive nature as well as her wonderful hair; no to mention her works team was Audi, so it fit 🙂
An incredible driver always and such a great person who always has time for the fans, she certainly tamed the quattro short wheelbase and had it not been for the tragic death of her father in the later stages of the 82 world championship she would have won for sure!, and her drive at Pikes Peak in 84 in a monster quattro was simply something else! what a drive!!
I love motor sports because a woman can be the best without any rule changes or affirmative action. Mouton is one of the greatest rally drivers of all time.
Every person having a skill or hellbent urge for something have a certain time in life when it all came together, can not take a pause or "quit" and come back, because you grow into the thing really dont reflecting on the insanity, and as long keeping it up its there, but a time away from it will make you think instead of "Just do it" and the pressure to "prove yourself" dont help, people in that situation must realise they dont have to prove anything for anyone, youre already a legend ♥
Michele the absolute Queen of WRC Monsters - as good as the very best male drivers of her time - and we talk about Walter Röhrl, Hannu Mikkola, Stig Blomquist and a few other WRC-Kings !!!!!
"greatest female driver" no. probably just one of the greats flat out. she wasn't a woman in that car. she was just part of the car. amazing driver. everyone could learn so much from her
A l' époque beaucoup d' homme la critiquaient bien bien peu on atteint son niveau, mais la vérité c'est qu'elle avait un sacré coup de volant ca faisait des jaloux lol Bravo Michèle
It's such a shame that she didn't win the WRC championship, because she came so close many times. But crashes, punctures, and mechanical failures kept her from winning the title. Still, she's a legend.
If you don't de-interlace crappy TV footage when converting to other formats, it is very painful to watch. The control is right there in your editor, under "Clip". Somewhere there's a "De-Interlace" option with a couple of different sub-options. Please de-interlace all old TV footage in the future!
I like how they didn't make a big deal about her being a woman like most documentaries and instead focus on her presence and history with the car and her career
Hands down the Greatest female to ever be behind the wheel of a WRC monster along with Pons
+1
Yep only bird who could compete with the blokes and missed out on a world championship by a whisker and not because of talent Iirc finishing one rally on 3 wheels with fabria perched on bonnet to balance the car.
One of the great drivers and competitors in any motorsport
Great rally Too !
Indeed
Perhaps Helene Delangle could claim to be the best woman driver with 15 grand Prix in 20s and 30s with some great results - the original Bugatti Queen !
Mouton's candor is always insightful.
She doesn't sugar coat, but tells you exactly what is going through her mind.
So good to see this coverage, she needs to be spoken about more. Not for being one of the forerunners of women racers, for being one of the greatest overall drivers, ever. 🤘🔥😎🔥🤘
Exactly
@Kenny Rutledge So true 😉😎❤
she’s not spoken about because she’s too masculine, the elites don’t want a woman like that obviously
Just for seeing her behind the wheel of that car, even at her present age, sends shivers down my spine and plasters a wide grin all over my face.
One of the greatest drivers of all time,- right up there with Rörhl and Vatanen.
Exactly.
Röhrl is a bit of a weird one. He's a great rally driver, but he doesn't like jumps ?!? (He said so himself in an interview!)
Look at her eyes when she is in the car, how focused and determined she is! She can't fool us, it's in her soul!
Michele and Fabrizia Pons seem to be the coolest grandma any kid could ever have, sitting beside her and having her tell you rally stories
Or learn how to drive with them... 😎
❤️Ah, our Queen! ❤️
My greatest moment in rallying was getting a personal meeting with Michelle at Rally Australia after assisting with crowd control on dirt bikes, and introducing 2 of my adult sons to her.
Michelle still has fire behind her eyes and was lovely to talk with for over 1/4 of an hour.
A truly wonderful experience for us.
One of the greatest drivers to have ever lived.
She's very well known and respected here in Portugal as one of her rally wins was here. The true and only queen of rally.
its refreshing to see such a perspective, not missing the rallying but friends and travel.
Michele is, and will forever be, damned Legend in racing. And what a great attitude.
Fabrizia is also amazing! Great video.
Even years after, still the same determination and strong temper in her eyes. What a woman.
Michèle is a hero to me and the Quattro is one of my top fav cars
One of the best drivers in history along with one of the best co-drivers in history with probably the most badass cars in history. These women raced 500+ hp machine on unprepared surfaces with little to no safety. This is why modern racing will never be the same as back in the recent past.
This video makes me shiver uncontrollably, She is a racing goddess

RIP Malcolm, and long live the quattro!
Her run in for the title should have been a movie.
What a legend.
I wish you guys would stop the women bull shit.
Michèle Mouton was and is one of the best drivers ever period!
Three Rallye. Legends . Mouton , Pons and the Audi Quattro
When a race driver is completely honest and not trying to pretend and cover weak points.. This is the most honest race driver ever.
You sell her short when you call her the greatest FEMALE rally driver of all time. She is one of the greatest, period.
I remember when she raced in the NZ rally. One of the stages finished in our town and this was when you could repair cars at anytime, so every team had their service teams in town. Use to watch it every year, the sound of those cars and the way they threw them around, miss those days.
it is always so funny showing these two to my friends. Two women that look like our University Librarians rocking it in a Quattro

Ever since I first saw Michelle driving in the 80’s I have always rated her as one of the greats in rallying.
I was in high school in the early 80's, and lucky enough to drive an Audi 4000. It wasn't a Quattro, but because of what Michele could do with an Audi, I pushed that thing!

icon of the time when I was an amateur driver and co-driver myself.
seen her in a few European events, OMG she was a legend on the stages!!!!
Michele and Fabri both drop dead gorgeous, female superstars of 80’s rallying held her own with Mikkola, Rohrl and Toivonen.
The rally Goddess, Group B Legends Michèle! Hats off!
One of the greatest pairings, along with McRae/Grist,& Makkinen/Lindstrom.
Too much talk about her being the greatest female rally driver. She should remembered as one of world rallying's greatest drivers full stop. Ohhhhh what a treat to see the Mouton Pons in the audi again. Thanks for uploading
I love the way she picks up the inside rear @ the end of clip, one of the true masters of the sport . RESPECT one of the true greats ! cheers from down under.
She’s not a great female rally driver. She’s a great rally driver. As certifiably insane as any of the other greats and with bigger balls
Mouton is one of my heros. Loving to see her behind the wheel again!
She is (with) the only woman I bow to. She gave everything in Life and for this Sport. Today she will show the Newcomers who is the Boss in the Ring. I hope she stays with us for a very long time. Thanks for all the Emotions 😎❤
Excellent, thanks for this, cheered me up on an otherwise frustrating day! She's still got it.
Michele was an amazing driver in her day. A fierce competitor.
michelle is one of the few examples where you don't need to differentiate between gender. absolutely she's the best female driver in history, but she's also one of the best drivers in history. she was a fucking beast in her day

The flying machines of the day that where band have been replaced with supersonic cars of today 👍👨🏻🏭🇬🇧
My favourite rally driver of all time!
Michele and Fabrizio are pure class!
I admire her honesty! Charming woman.
she is the empress of the steering wheel. I wonna see Mouton and Röhrl racing again.
what a wonderful pair. never been anything like them since. unfortunately

Such great footage! Legend meeting again!
In the wake of Ford vs Ferrari, Ferrari, Rush etc how is there not a great film made about this woman yet? What an icon.
It is so great to remember my youth and look again to this amazing machines and proper driver's
Simplement la meilleure pilote de rallye de tous les temps!!!
@Mouton still has it in her...plus she doesn't look that old..she's aging like wine...biggest fan from Kenya with love
Ms Mouton was always one of my heroes (heroines if you like) What a class act, and what a lady. And always seems so nice when you see her interviewed.
Absolutely fabulous
We understand you can't be as fast but come on mouton and a audi that's just what we want. It doesn't have to be so serious. It's legendary.
Michele Mouton is the Greatest female racing driver ever and women cry about they can'r do anything because of men should look back to this legend
Legend of the WRC

Great Stuff … always loved the Quattro.. Michelle aswell 👍
We missed golden era of rallying... Gr. B 🔥🔥🔥
Hail to the Queen
So close to being the World Rally Champion in1982.
She's my hero.
michele mouton the best female racing driver in the world
Tbh, i just love the way Michele co-driver, fabrizia speaking. Just so damn cute.
A l' époque beaucoup d' homme la critiquaient bien bien peu on atteint son niveau, mais la vérité c'est qu'elle avait un sacré coup de volant ca faisait des jaloux lol Bravo Michèle
That fing music. Sound overload
It's such a shame that she didn't win the WRC championship, because she came so close many times. But crashes, punctures, and mechanical failures kept her from winning the title. Still, she's a legend.
Once a racer, its inthe blood, its always there, as is talent.
Wow she looks younger after dying her hairs. Legend!
Only love and respect for her great personality!💜💙
I still love her
She needs a movie
Man, im not even a Rallycar fan, im more of a Open wheel and Nascar, V8 Supercars kinda guy, but damn! she is an amazing driver!
Quel plaisir de la voir conduire 😍
LEGEND!
Si vienes al rally de chile en Concepción estaré ahí para conocerte por favor
Michele Mouton is a legend #IROC
Michelle es mi ídola de su primer carrera es la mejor del todo los tiempos
Still gorgeous too! What a great duo.

A True Legend... :-))
ohhh man...that look...that killer look she still has behind the wheel of that Quattro!!!
What a lovely lady its a shame there are not many women pilots the girls can drive just as good as men and they are more gentle on the cars !!
awesome video
Mouton definitely reunited with the Quattro at the 2011 RoC where she rolled it right on its lid…I’m sure you remember✌😉✨
today she looks even better than back in 2010 when she trained for the rally du maroc. 🙂
Michéle "Completely Bonkers" Mouton ... how I adore this woman !
Michele Mouton MM 33
Colin Clarke CC 33
THE greatest female rally driver, without question! But, it's quattro, not Quattro...
this girl this woman this driver drove many crazy and made even more angry
Short Quattro, long Quattro? It's not how long it is, it is how you use it! I'll see myself out.
😂
