- A view from the cockpit while landing at the Akron Fulton airport on August 17, 2011. A clear, summer morning in northern Ohio.
The airplane is a King Air 300. Watch for the large black hangar that dates from 1929. This is where several dirigibles were assembled for the U.S. Navy. It continues in use to this day and is owned by Lockheed-Martin.
It's been a while since I've produced one of these videos. Which I've previously titled "Fast Flight" due to having some sped-up video in each. I decided not to speed up any part of this one. And may simply drop that title from now on. Sped up or not. Also, I've figured out a simpler camera mounting rig. So I may produce these flying videos more often.
Thanks.
I grew up under the flight path. Just between Acme/Cllick and The baseball fields on Quayle Dr.
I grew up near there. I lived on Woodstock Rd from 1973 - 1978 and planes would always come from the east to land at that airport, and their flight path always took them right over my house or the house next to us. In either late '73 or early '74, I was in second grade at Hatton elementary, and was told to immediately go home because there was a plane crash on my street. The assistant principal drove me home to find out if my house got wiped out. Turned out it was right across the street from me, a plane just like this one was sticking out of the top of the house! Pilot and co-pilot were from Michigan, I think. Both died, of course. But wow what a memory. And I also remember the Goodyear corporate jets used to fly there and they were extremely LOUD!!! It was awesome. This was a cool video to watch. Loved the Ellet area in Akron, Ohio.
Thanks much for watching and the comments about Akron.
Bill
I grew up about 3 miles south of there. That's back when the Rubber Bowl stadium was still around.
Isn't that on Triplett Blvd.?
@@b.k.r.doggielover5449 The airport is. Derby Downs is on George Washington Blvd.

Thanks. I couldn't place it.
As a passanger I have landed on that runway many times. The All American Soap Box Derby is on your left you touch down. I lived very close to the airport and just about could see my house.
@ShrinehillRail Touching down on the numbers on a 6,300 foot runway in a turbine airplane is pretty much frowned upon. Those big wide stripes about 1,000 feet down are generally where touchdown should be. Thanks very much for watching.

My hometown
Thanks for watching.
Bill
I soloed off that runway about 1963...great fun!
My dad's plane was in the in the hanger beside the BIG building.
That always makes it better. Thanks for watching. Bill
My first plane ride was a hop out of and into this airport. Thank you!
My Dad helped built the runways and worked at Derby Downs.
Thanks very much for watching.

Great video; I grew up in this area! A few landmarks:
At the beginning, the plaza on the left is Tri-County Plaza, 1500 Canton Rd. The new Springfield High School is under construction just down the road, bottom-right of the screen at 0:10
The really long road you pass over around 0:30 is US route 224. The lake in the distance is Mogadore Reservoir.
The big industrial area visible at 0:45 is the Gilchrist Rd corridor
1:15 is Ellet High School
1:25 are the plazas around Canton Rd and Wedgewood. The blue roofs are an old Sears Hardware.
+JeremyMcCracken Thanks for the comprehensive comment.

I remember back in the 60's my dad learned to fly there using his friends 172 and his instructor was a pilot for Goodyear. Which I thought odd because dad worked for Goodrich. Sometimes I'd go with them and others I'd just roam around the tie down area and I remember a terminal building.(Hey, where did that go.) One time we had a Boy Scout jamboree inside the blimp hanger. Ah, the memories. Thanks.
I loved it! I was born & raised in Akron. Thx 4 sharing.
Just to let you know Lockheed does not own the blimp hanger or the building around it the summit county port authority own it. Lockheed agreed to lease it from the county for 20 years
I was born in Akron in 1945. My Dad worked for Goodyear, and in the hangar.
My Mother helped build Corsairs at the Goodyear Airdock aka Good Year hanger during WWII. A huge building to say the least. Thanks for the video makes my heart feel good to know the building is still there.
@AviationMetalSmith Interesting. Thanks for watching.
Bill
Thanks for watching.
Bill

@seniorbiscut Thanks. I don't get to choose where I go, unfortunately.

@cnjallison Thank you for watching.

Okay, if I'm not mistaken, then right at the 2:00 mark of this video, if you look on the left side, you can see the house that was crashed into by a plane in 1974. I can never remember which one for sure, lol, as I was only 7 years old. But it right across the street from my house and it was either the one with the white columns in front of it (second from the left), or the one next to it. Wow this is cool to see from this view. Thanks for this clip.
He also flies over the neighborhood where a plane crashed into a house in 2000. I live in that neighborhood and I remember the day it happened.
Wow what street was that 2000 crash on? The one in '74 was on Woodstock Rd, between Triplett and Quayle. Closer to Triplett. I got rushed home from second grade by the assistant principal because nobody would answer the phone at my house and they knew my father should be at home with my youngest brother. I got home to see the firetrucks and cop cars everywhere. The police let me go inside my house which was 40 yards from the crash, and my dad and brother were asleep inside lol. Loved that part of Ellet in the 70's. Loved the woods there between Click and Hilbish. .
The 2000 crash was on Herbert Road.
In Flight Video needs to have In Flight Audio also
@TheDeneale Glad that you liked it.
Bill
This was fun to watch since I'm from the area!!
Thnx, grew up in North Canton and then moved to Naples Florida, I believe this is the airport where Thurman Munson crashed and died?
Close but not this one, This is Akron Airport next to Goodyear blimp hanger, Thurman Died at Akron-Canton Airport in North Canton. There close to each other.
@jt4136 Thanks. No just a plant equipment research trip.
Bill
Hello from Akron!
I think you flew right over my Son's house.
Around 1:50 you fly right above my home neighborhood, which is the same neighborhood where a plane crashed into a house in 2000 right after takeoff.
nice landing,thanks
+jim francis Thanks.
Bill
@StCatharinesRailFan8 It can be interesting. Thanks.
Bill
I would have turned right at the end and hit Sticklands for some ice cream :)
@DJHOGHEAD Heh. Thanks.
Bill
Let's see... altitude: 21,000 feet. Speed: 520 knots. Level flight. Course: zero-niner-zero. Trim and mixture: wash, soak, rinse, spin. You did good Bill! I was not worried the least bit.
really great video thanks for posting!
we will be flying for the first time ever in a few months hope our flight can land as nice as you did!
Thanks. I hope the flight will be a pleasant experience for you.
Bill
@AJ67901 Hardy any wind. So no excuses.
Bill
gotta love that old WWII hanger....
@MP36er I guess that's about right.
Bill
Runway 25. I was just there last week.
Good stuff.
nice , i always wanted to go for a plane ride , or a blimp ride for a peaceful sight of the city .. guess this is the closest ill ever get .. akron looks so nice from above yet very hostile and dangerous from the street level ..
Great video. Were you in the left seat?
Nice landing!
I used to be on the Research and Advisory Board of Aviation Week Magazine. Then I was in the US Navy, and their reporters found me onboard an Aircraft Carrier. They dismissed me from the board because they said I don'r represent GENERAL Aviation anymore, and that I represent CARRIER BASED Aviation.
General Aviation and Carrier Based Aviation have a sort of rift between them.
@AviationMetalSmith Well yea, I don't know too many local pilots who have a carrier to land on :)
I wish someone could take me up to get rid of my fear of flying! I've never been.
Hello to all my fellow Akroners seeing this in their recommended too
@ Joey Palms. *Akronites is the correct title BTW.

@sekusel Thanks. Yep, that's my usual ride.
Bill
If I had a dollar for every time I drove under your flight path approaching 25 I could probably buy a plane. A balsa wood plane.
Haha, a cab ride with Bill!
Thats is so small airport
