Ogre battle and Lily Of The Valley represent the absolute peak leveled literacy of Mr. Mercury! His songwriting skills are out of this world, never have I ever witnessed anyone having a better way with words than this poetic soul! Freddie Mercury was quite bohemian, a lot into art, literature, poetry mythical legends and folklore of kingdoms and I find that relatable to a lot of extent 💜
I remember the first time I listened to Queen. My grandpa had lent me his vinyl, and told me “Listen to this. It is of a famous rock band” I did as he told me to. I started playing it, and it was amazing. I still remember that day as if it was yesterday, but this song caught my eye. This masterpiece. It was amazing. The lyrics, Freddie’s voice (specially at 0:58. At that part, he had me in tears). It gives such an intense feeling, I just don’t have words to explain it. I then went running to my Grandpa’s house and told him “Its amazing. I have no words” I was seven years old, and he actually told me to keep it. He actually gave me all his vinyls. I have to thank him for introducing me to this beautiful band. Fan since 2009!
Very beautiful and touching story... I wish other kids my age would listen to good music like this. I’m 14 and kids my age listen to stuff like cardi b. If only they knew about masterpieces such as this...
Diego Barbagelata I believe that they actually used violin bows in the making of this song. I might be completely wrong, but I think I heard it somewhere.
this is my first time listen to this song. i've only heard the very popular songs. As soon i heard of rami malek interview last year. That is one of his favorite song i had to check it out i love it. This song has so much meaning.
I have been playing this song on repeat and every time I do I tear up a little and am smiling the entire time because of Freddie’s beautiful angelic voice. No one could ever take his place or deliver the way he does. He is a legend and holds a special place in my heart.♥️♥️♥️
What a divine song and lyric. Freddie Mercury's talent is immeasurable. Lily Of The Valley sounded so angelic, venerable and powerful. Only Freddie can deliver the way he did. What a contrast to Death On Two Legs. One of my favour also--he sang it with so much passion there were so much story behind it too. Miss you Freddie ❤️
What I really like about Queen is songs like this. Songs that not too many people know but are soooooo awesome and you have a feeling like they only belong to you to listen too...
This is a masterpiece. Freddie Mercury's genius! And Freddie's beautiful voice! And Freddie's magical piano playing! The subtitle refers to a song from an earlier album, "Seven Seas of Rhye," with the following line: "The messenger of the seven seas flew away to tell Rhye that he had lost his throne." Freddie's things were so heavily disguised, literally ... But a little insight; he could carry a lot of personal thoughts in it, though not much was very accessible. Lily of the valley was completely heartfelt. It’s about looking at his girlfriend and realizing that her body needs to be elsewhere. Great creation, Freddie was an absolute genius!❤️
Queen's music is so mystical and magical. I remember listening to this as a teenager. Queen gave me a sense of the surreal. I love how they sang about kings and fairies. They are truly one of a kind.
How incredibly beautiful is Freddie's voice in this song? He wrote this before Seven seas of Rhye I guess. Part of the Story he and sister would make up. Just lovely.
1:15 feels just like coming out of a low trough and then riding the biggest wave the world has ever seen. What a magnificent band. Sometimes I hear people say they don't get them... Oh my God, how is that even possible.
Baby, you've been had I am forever searching high and low But why does everybody tell me no? Neptune of the seas, an answer for me, please The lily of the valley doesn't know I lie in wait with open eyes I carry on through stormy skies I follow every course my kingdom for a horse But each time I grow old Serpent of the Nile, relieve me for a while And cast me from your spell and let me go Messenger from Seven Seas has flown To tell the king of Rhye he's lost his throne Wars will never cease, is there time enough for peace? But the lily of the valley doesn't know
I always do the same. For a while I stop listening to Queen and I start to listen to other types of music, other authors ... and after another time, I return to listen to Queen .... And every time I do, I realize again why I like it so much ... SUBLIME !!! Again!!!!
Incredible, the lights, the voice, the music, the form of an unmistakably classic rock operatic ballad from my childhood. Listening to this feels like travelling back in time but it's also style of production that seems to be trending just now, Queen really are timeless.
christosmadrid i m also here bcause of rami malek and this song is beautiful just like my freddie mercury..i thought i knew every song of queen..i was wrong
I feel sorry for kids today cuz the 70s was THE GREATEST decade for music. It will never be matched!! I was in my 20s & rocking to the best music ever & seeing the best bands ever in concert including Queen at the top always!!!
Queen have no limits, they can nail absolutely every genre of music and make it sound out of this world. These guys are pure geniuses and real virtuoso musicians and are walking on higher ground. GODS really. Can you believe this is the same band that came up with Crazy Little Thing Called Love? Backchat? Another Bites the Dust? Bring back that Leeroy Brown? Holy F$&$& no other band in history has been able to do that and none will be able to either. They are greatest band of all time! Period!
I remember when i listened to this one for the first time. I was in the car and i already knew Fleek Of The Wrist but I hadn't listen it in the album, so when I went to listen to it in the album and the next song (this one) continued the line i was so so happy, it made my day and I'll never forget it
I think this song will be appropriate for our beloved Queen Elizabeth II. Because this is her favorite flower. Goodbye our beloved queen Elizabeth, your reign will not be forgotten. 🇬🇧👑
In some of these early Queen songs, John Deacon put extreme amount of melody in his tracks, those could easily have been vocal tracks in any song. Try to sing You're my Best Friend with the bass melody. That would be a completely different song.

Marc Martel sounds similar but it's pretty easy to tell them apart. Plus, his voice isn't as powerful as Freddie's.
Marvin Gaye but Freddie was a GodSend.

@@superpina5864 Absolutely, I genuinely believe it's something WAY more than a masterpiece, phenomenally poetic! 💜
In interviews Freddy would say his lyrics were not very good, and that he had to work very hard to get anything worth keeping.

Ahh You must have yet to listen to his previous band Ibex xD that is his highest
This is probably the most criminally underrated Queen song ever.
TheZeroSbr There are too many though!!
Alan Tremonti Nah. A lot of their songs are just okay (just like any band), but Queen's great songs are a cut above any other band's songs.
TheZeroSbr no, is white queen
no its the march of the black queen, its late, my fairy king, a milonaire waltz, was it all worth it, innuendo, etc, etc...
Most underrated song period (Though I will agree that all songs mentioned above are also criminally underrated)
Another incredibly beautiful Freddie ballad.
The highest level of perfection in the world. amazing.
