  • How to make a scrunchie with wide elastic. Easy with a nice finish.
    In this video, I make scrunchies in soft stretch satin and stretch velour with same measurements and method to show you the difference in look.
    The wider elastic gives the scrunchies an updated look to the traditional ones. It will sit flatter around your ponytail like bands.
    Both fabrics feel great on your hair and also can be used as bracelets or wrist warmers.
    Adjust fabric and elastic length to your liking😊. Have fun sewing!!

    Third time is the charm. I found that what was happening is that at a certain point of sewing and pulling the fabric through it would get "stuck" or catch making me think that was as far as I could go. What I needed to do was leave the needle in but raise my presser foot and then I could pull more of the fabric through. I was working with navy blue nylon or poly knit. It wasn't that easy to pull the material to the right side but still a lot easier with better results than many other instructions I have tried. I persisted because I loved the look and my granddaughter was getting married and I wanted a wrist warmer to go with my navy blue dress. Got it and it looks great! Would love to try one with satin! Thank you, Angela.

      Thanks again! Do you find it is a better viewing experience if I list the tools at the beginning of the video or as I am using them? I am trying to keep my videos beginner friendly but also worry that it can be monotonous seeing it every time at the start for subscribers. I try to keep the explanations short and not drone on about anything……
      Thanks in advance for the feedback🙏

      @@NotchesSewing 👍 Your video's are clean, neat and professional, just like your sewing. In a straightforward way, you refer to the tools list in the description (I was looking for snips and decided on the one you use- thank you 🙂), and it is really helpful when you identify the tools as you use them. It makes your videos stand out from others and not be monotonous or tedious. Its because of your unique format; the quick introduction, the tools list, great sewing tips and easy explanations, referring to the tools as you use them, your great teaching voice, that you easy to listen to and learn from. I'm a fan though, so a bit biased 👍 Thank you forvthe new simple scrunchie that you just uploaded. I love this one too! 🌟

    HI Angela, I've been watching your scrunchie videos lately. I just love the way you insert your elastic through rather than inside like other videos. I've been trying different sizes and materials and thickness of elastics and just love this wide design, so I've been to Spotlight and bought some of the non roll elastic, and being a holiday today and pretty wet outside, I'm going to busy myself in the back room and give these a go. Thanks for the tutorials. Much appreciated.😊

    Hey Angela, you will have less work if you stitch the elastic first, in a circle, and put it in, around the scrunchie, b4 you roll up the scrunchie to sew it in the burrito style. Simple and sweet. Bless up. 🇹🇹💕🙏🏾🤗🤗

      @@NotchesSewing do you happen to know of a good brand of thin elastic?

    • @NotchesSewing
      @NotchesSewing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Braided is better as knit is too soft. I buy wholesale so it’s a generic product. Non roll might be hard to tie into knot but you can cut a shorter length and stitch together. If you can get bits of each type and test out on your own hair before purchasing a lot if you are making for production.

    I love these scrunchies. Your video is the only video that shows you actually sticking the elastic under the presser foot. But of course you have an automatic presser foot. Everyone cuts it off right before they sew it and show it sewn or they just sew the ends together leaving a bump from the ends not being stacked together the way I prefer. Any tips since it's hard to get the elastic under there, hold it together and pull down the presser foot lever?

    • @NotchesSewing
      @NotchesSewing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ella. Push the fabric away from elastic as much as possible. Place stacked elastic under the foot, hold with one hand and lower needle through elastic with the other before lowering presser foot.

      @@NotchesSewing thank you so much for your reply! I'll give that a shot. I'm not 100% sure that it will work. Will the satin scrunchie fray out with just a regular stitch over time? I'm about to gift some scrunchies in satin but not sure if I have to use an overlocker?

    • @NotchesSewing
      @NotchesSewing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are worried about fraying, just sew with a wider seam. Stretch satin also doesn’t fray as much. Thanks for watching.😊

    Well, my first attempt wasn't so great. You said to keep pulling the material out until you get to the other end--how do you know when that is? I pulled out until I thought I couldn't pull any more and at the end I had a huge gap that needed to be sewed. I think the next time I'll be able to do better.

    • @NotchesSewing
      @NotchesSewing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You obviously haven’t sewn right back to the beginning. Go back and rewatch the video, You can see that the seam joins the beginning when sewn correctly. Practice makes perfect. It’s always ok to make a mistake . That’s how you learn not to repeat that again. Thanks for watching. Have fun.

      This look won’t work with thinner elastic. Please have a look at all my other scrunchie videos. They all have different methods to make them with slightly different measurements. You can find that in the descriptions. I often make many samples with different fabrics until I get the look I want. Have fun!
