Maintenance mode is a must for working on the engines on hybrids. Also as a Toyota guy whenever I work on anything with a plug I spray it down first to clean it so no dirt messes with the clip or slide. Old brittle connectors can sometimes be heated up a bit to make them more pliable. Newer cars owners can spray a little silicone based product on plastic in the engine bat to prevent them from getting too brittle in the first place. As always love the channel Kenny!
You can force a hybrid to start for testing by entering maintenance mode. There’s a sequence of pressing the gas pedal, entering neutral and park. Need to google it.
Kenny - on gen 3 prius at this mileage misfires are almost always either the head gasket or the EGR (ports in intake manifold clog on 1 or 2 cylinders, dumping excess EGR into the other 2 or 3). For easy EGR check see "Toyota EGR Diagnosis Tips and Repair Tips" by The Car Care Nut, about 3 minutes in. For HG, pressurize coolant and use a borescope to watch tiny leaks. (Check out "How to Check for a Bad Head Gasket on Toyota and Lexus Engines" by that same Toyota tech.) BTW all misfires on this car sound horrible because of the clutch (inertial dampener?) between the engine and the electric motor.
Once you get some time with this new scanner, you should do a video on the pluses and minuses of all of them and the costs, purchase and any annual updates.
Hope y'all had a great day,I got to hook new scanner up to two vehicles today lol, strange both had O2 sensors not working lol,oh and 1 seatbelt sensor, air bag malfunction, probably the one outside 😅 this thing is fun to play with 😅
or, with a cheap odb and drprius(and who knows what many others) app u just select maintenance mode. I have a feeling that scan tool can do that. In many people's experience the engine of a toyota hsd will shake violently with any kind of misfire due to being directly connected (more or less through power split planetary devices) to the drive motor/generator. Now the cause of misfires can range from specific to this engine clogged egr and intake ports and faulty head gasket at cold start to usual suspects like ignition, fuel delivery, timing and the rest.
I have a launch and a thinktool pros as well as an autel . The launch based tools are superior in every way. They are very fast and accurate. The only time I notice a slow down is typically in older systems or Hondas in general. Hondas are slow on every aftermarket tool I've ever used. The launch based tool is absolutely superior on European cars as well.
Thinktool pros is probably the best scanner price wise very underrated and has phenomenal battery life. I upgraded my older autel to 909 and its super fast.
I have bought a Opel Movano 2.4 TDI. But it has a speed limitation on 130 KM/H. It was from a transport compagnie. can you remove that with a scanner to? I already paid a lot for the bus and i have a scanner. If I let it do by the Opel garage itself it wil cost me 120 euro's. I think speed liomittaion is handeld by the computer of the car
Nice scan tool but seems a bit awkward to use. More practice I reckon. Hope it works out for you and others who will get this unit. $400+ is still a bit pricey for the DIYer. Toys are always of interest!! Best of success with getting more comfortable with the unit. Would be interesting for you to do a review on that product once you feel comfortable with it. Thanks for all you do!!!
LoL 😂😆 I'm sure he might break it out sometime! The problem I find with manuals is a lot of the information I already know! I have to be board and Wade through that stuff to get to the bits I'm looking for. Sometimes I could write the manual better.
PHV - plug-in hybrid vehicle, like the Prius Prime. The Prime is no different from a regular Prius, but has an additional electric only mode powered by an extra battery. Range in battery only is about 30 miles. However, we have two Primes & it is not uncommon to not touch the gasoline for weeks (during Covid winter, I actually treated the gas because we were using so little.)
Well, that is why I found a MB wireless scan pod still attached to the vehicle, in the OBD port. Well, original fault is that battery goes flat, fault was failed battery monitor board in boot, because the seals are leaking, and filled the spare wheel and battery up with water. New used module at least CAN buses work, and still have to fix the other issues of secondary battery faults, and occasional full shut down from that. But customer not willing to spend money, and I do not do this for a living. Still got to find that leak and fix it.
bought a set of coil connectors plugs with wires on Amazon for my toyota. de-pinned them and the broken connector on the wiring harness, and then reinserted the wires into the new connector. the zip-tie hack works, too, but offends me
Had a 2011 Prius ,best car we ever owned about the same mileage when it was totaled. Only complaint was the seats were terrible on long trips, would kill your back, up to 58 MPG in the city. Second best car was a highlander but the mileage was not great
This is a waste of time since he is using test equipment he has no idea how to use it. Figure it out before wasting our time. We have better things to do then watch you punch and guess.
I love your videos. I hate launch scan tools. They are slow and clunky don’t make any sense. Too many options to check from. The codes are usually inaccurate due to the options the operators inputs. Very very horrible piece of tooling. I understand that it’s a cheaper price point but the opperating system is trash.

The scan tool he is using should have an option to put it in that mode.

Where was the car driveing in a sand storm? There's sand all over the engine.
Thank you for review the Launch CRP919EBT scanner!

I do like the look of this scanner..Very nice. All the best Kenny..
Prius Plug-in Hybrid (often abbreviated as the Prius PHV and known as the Prius Prime in North America
The 3rd screen i think ... 2011.11, 2010.01-2010.08 - its the year and month my friend. So 2010.01-2010.08 will be jan to aug 2010 etc 🙂
I use our Launch tablet at work considerably more than out Snap On scanner tool that cost considerably more.

Coils sometimes have to get hot to misbehave. They do ok cold, but mess up warm or hot.
We use exact same procedure lifting with screwdriver on all toyotas
The dates you were given in one of the menues, and didn't know about, is probably dates of manufacturing

Our Chrysler techs put lanyards on their pods. Makes it easier to remember or someone else to spot before it leaves with a customer.
Did you not get a MANUAL with the scanner ???
LoL 😂😆
I'm sure he might break it out sometime!

Still Enjoyed the video 👍👍👍
During one of those oil drive through places. The tech said to leave the car in park and depress the accelerate pedal. It forces the engine to run.
I HATE having to pull cowls. My 01 Town & Country is like that. PITA.
You can have that thing.
I know the Toyota hybrids do have a a maintenance mode so motor will stay running.

Did you or the shop get paid anything for time used?
Partially hybrid vehicle?
PHV = Plug-In Hybrid (aka PHEV)
Sorry for the misspell spellcheck took over lol
Tap the the three dots to the right. It'll give you an option to edit.
I just edited this and added this sentence.
I didn't care for the launch tool! Looks a little too complicated for me.
Funny in days of old coil never gave trouble in modern cars misfiring is bad coil most of the time
Now there are 4/6/8 of them to fail instead of one.
What does "SYNERGY" mean?
Fancy word for "working together in harmony"
@@billthepainter5106thank you!!
I've searched but for some reason couldn't find it!!
Io should be input output
Things that make you go ummmm!🤔
2011.12 is build date and newer. 2010.11-2011.12 is for that date period. Etc...
👍👍
Almost looks like a wide band o2 hookup wire?

PHV is Pirus Hibrid Vehicle
If you put your foot on the brake, place it in drive, and put the gas pedal to the floor., the engine will kick in
I/O means Input/Output
I/O is input/output.
OK, so I find it hard to relate to a car you have to figure out how to make the IC run.😊
Just opened the box to the scanner.
Probably close to the first time working on one.
Techs need to stand there ground and refuse to work on EV, let people sit on them when they stop running.
Why? Fix the car and charge the customer by the hour. Why does it matter if it is EV or something else?
Didn't like that scan tools vehicle id . I think it should have been easier for you to id .
I specifically use a four foot extension on my Elm device.

Learn it b4 you share.

I guess this video isn't for you then. I was entertained that he was able to figure it out like he did.
ICE for life
EXACTLY!!
Lots of talking again. Not much actual work. Fumbling with tools your not familiar with. Very boring.
Not like there aren't any other channels on TH-cam!
My point exactly! Just thought he might be interested in ways to improve his channel.
