    This video answered questions I had a long time ago about when a chain counts as a stitch and when it doesn't. I found my answer in a different video back then, but you explain it so well and so simply! Thank you for this.

    Why is the beginning of a half/double stitch marked differently than the end? Would it work to mark the loop on the hook each time? (I was hoping it would be that easy!)

    Will I always count the third turning chain as a stitch when doing dcs or is that something that can change?

    • @SigoniMacaroni
      @SigoniMacaroni  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can change. The chain 3 always counts as a stitch UNLESS the pattern specifically says “Ch 3 does not count as stitch” or something similar to that.
      I’m so glad you find them helpful! Let me know if you have anymore questions 😊

    It may be helpful to do a video of double crochet with stitch markers from the the start of a chain.

  • @luisa2955
    @luisa2955 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, Sigoni, thanks. One question, though: for single and half double crochet the starting chain does not count as a stitch, whereas for double crochets it does (i.e. you crochet in the second stitch and skip the first, and at the end of the row you crochet the last stitch in the 3rd chain). Why is that? Is there a reason?

    When you make a new stitch, do you push the hook through both strands of the V, the front strand or the back strand only? How will I know which method to use? Does the pattern always state which method to use?

    So do I only need to really mark the 1st stitch or the turning chain and not the last stitch?

    • @SigoniMacaroni
      @SigoniMacaroni  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sara Krausert As you’re crocheting each row, you’ll only need to mark the first stitch on each end. So once you reach the first end, mark your first stitch. Then crochet down the row to your last stitch and use a second stitch marker to mark the first stitch of the next row. So you’ll have a stitch marker on each end. Then move each of your markers up a row as you go

  • @krazymammaw3040
    @krazymammaw3040 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question at last row and you do your turning chain I have seen so many different ways to turn your work is it like book to the left or ?? What do recommend

    • @SigoniMacaroni
      @SigoniMacaroni  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it's personal preference, but I turn my work like turning a page in a book

  • @kaycee6036
    @kaycee6036 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is somewhat confusing for half double crochet. Why are the stitch markers you placed at the beginning and end of the row different?

    • @queen_b2603
      @queen_b2603 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it's just different ways to place it. It's not really different

  • @kellysnider5138
    @kellysnider5138 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I thought... omg this is so confusing ... that we are supposed to skip the first stitch once we've turned ... we don't? Why do some tutorials say to skip and others don't? How do we know when we do and when we don't?

  • @chloecovers
    @chloecovers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So what do I do when I get to the end of the first row? You completely skipped that. My whole issue is that I'm somehow not doing enough chains, so it's slanted. You said to put a marker at the first stitch, then suddenly there's another marker at the left end already....how do I do that?

    • @SigoniMacaroni
      @SigoniMacaroni  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure if I’m understanding your question correctly but hopefully I can help.
      You’ll do the same thing for every row. Each row you’re marking the very first stitch of the row. When you reach the next side with the stitch marker you’ll know that that is your last stitch of the row because we marked it as the first stitch in the row before.
      If you’re skipping a chain in the first row then you’ll have to count your stitches to make sure you have the correct amount.

    I am having the worse time with straight edges and curling? Why does this happen

    • @SigoniMacaroni
      @SigoniMacaroni  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Curling happens when your tension is too tight. But if you're just crocheting a single crochet swatch, it's normal for the edges to curl slightly because it's such a tight stitch. With keeping your edges straight, it usually due to not having the correct amount of stitches. This video should help you keep your edges straight. If this doesn't help, you can try this one too. th-cam.com/video/Flz9HZID-1s/w-d-xo.html
