Did you have it on eco mode? I have a 2 car driveway and made it 3/4 of the way and the batteries died. I had about 18” of snow in fairness. It had plentyyyyy of power but the batteries didn’t seem to last at all.

@@victorraye57 that’s weird. Yeah I fully charged the batteries and had it on full speed auger and full speed on the wheels and died pretty quickly. The 2nd time around I lowere the speed to eco on the auger and the wheels to low and it seemed to run longer but at that point I did a small walk way so not really sure. Seemed like 18” of snow and everything on full turbo drained the batteries quick.

I bought this after your review. This 70 year old guy has now used this snow blower in 5 storms, and I love this machine. The last storm turned to freezing rain, and it struggled with the heavy, wet 8" accumulation. But the next morning with temps around 15F, it chewed right through the remaining stuff. I do a 250' gravel driveway on a steep hill, and it performs wonderfully. I can do the entire driveway and a good-sized parking area at the top with one charge of the 7.5 ah batteries when it's powder. It took me 3 full charges for his latest storm with the heavy snow, but the charger gets the recharge done in under 2 hours, a good respite for these old bones so I don't overdo it. It does throw the snow really far. And it's quiet, too. No more oil changes. No more petrol. Easy to operate, If you don't mind the price, you will love this machine. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have it! It's awesome. The ability to turn down the blade speed is so awesome when you don't need to throw it anywhere other than the side. No clogging problems, other than slush... But that's gonna happen no matter what you've got.
Sorry Vince, a couple things you forgot to mention in this otherwise nearly prefect video...
You don't need to hold down the power button to start the blower, just press it before you engage the auger/blower. Once you've got that engaged, and you start to move it under power, you can let go of the auger lever and use your other hand to control where the snow goes and how fast you're going. When you release the drive lever, it releases the auger lever as well.

Our town has a noise ordinance. No noise after 10:00 pm in neighborhoods. I go out at 2:00 am and NONE of the neighbors know I’m out there. Quiet and powerful. I have the neighbors walks plowed and they are happy! The blower chute does not lock in place and will move while operating. EGO has a free piece that you can have sent to you. It’s easy to install. You can also adjust the very top of the blower chute to point down so it only shoots snow towards the ground about 1-2 feet.

Purchased this blower a month ago and the thing is a beast! I’ve only had to use it twice in about 6-8 inches of (CO) snow and it cleared my driveway on the ECO setting (lowest setting) with no problem. I got to play around with the Turbo setting and it definitely was helpful to get the snow over the snow banks piled up on either side of my 32’ driveway (2 car garage) and still had 4/5 lights on my battery remaining. I never post reviews but after debating researching for hours between the 2-stage and single stage ego blower I’m very pleased with my purchase. This TH-cam review was spot on!

The road salt not a problem with my steel unit that’s 15 yeas old. The only salt I run into is the bottom of the driveway after the plow truck comes through. I make one pass down to the salty area, clear out that area real good, then do the rest of the driveway, I run a lot of fresh snow through it after. Once a year, I power wash it, let it dry, spray it down with wd40. Good review btw, this thing got my attention.

One advantage of electric motors is that they maintain torc at lower rpm under load. Gassers have higher peak power but a sharper drop in torque under load. My ego single stage does better at the bottom of the drive compared to the previous more powerful Toro gas single stage.

We live in Western Michigan and yes, 'it snows here' :-) Last weekend (Nov 17-20,2022) we got 30". It was the first test of my 2 Stage Ego. Side note: I am a big EGO fan, and I own the E6 Zero turn, two leaf blowers, the weed whacker with chainsaw attachment, and even a chainsaw. I love them all. So to complete my transition to electric I acquired the Ego two stage blower this fall. The lights are great, the handle adjusts to a comfortable height for my 6'5" frame and the controls are easy to use and logical. The lack of heated handles as not an issue as I didn't need to grip tightly as I did with my previous gas powered unit. The EGO unit is light, about half the weight of that gas powered two stage unit, making it super easy to maneuver. So when the snow began to fall I was ready!
... or so I thought. The thing was an absolute fail in wet snow. No matter what I did, the unit would blow for a few feet and then the snow would just pile up in front of it, turning it into a plow. I tried going slow, and going fast, even up to full speed. I tried going even faster than that by simply pushing the unit. I ran the blower part it full turbo the entire time. I would have to back up then 'charge' into the pile hoping it would get pulled into the auger. When it did, it chewed it up and blew it out, that much was good. However, when it began acting like a plow again, the remaining snow in the spout would quickly freeze. After a couple of these cycles the spout was frozen solid. I have been blowing snow for approaching 50 years and have cleared a frozen spout perhaps a dozen times in those years, until this past weekend when I cleared this thing dozens of times. Having to provide a clearing shovel on top of the unit should have been 'a clue'. ;-)
Our driveway is about 200 ft long about half 1 car wide and half two cars wide. In the first three clearings, of about 8" each, I went through the supplied 7.5AH batteries as well as nearly tapped out a set of 10 AH batteries from my Z6. The fourth and final clearing WAS better than the first three as the snow was a bit drier and didn't built up in front of the machine. It only plugged one time, and I managed to finish on one set of 7.5AH batteries. There was about 6" of snow to clear.
For me, the EGO blower is on 'two strikes' so It's going to have to redeem itself. Admittedly this was an above average event, even for West Michigan, and a very early season storm. Compounding that, our driveway (asphalt) and the ground beneath it, was rather warm thus turning the bottom layer of the heavy wet snow nearly to slush. So we'll see how it gets on with upcoming snow that may not be grade a 'Snow Man Quality' snow.
Edit: It is now Jan 6 of 2023 and I have used the EGO on two additional snowfall events. Neither was the super wet stuff on a base of slush of the first event. For both recent events it did not plug ag all, nor did it turn itself into a plow. I was still disappointed with battery life having to use both a set of 7.5s and a set of 10Ah batteries to complete my drive each time. I was moving significant snow, 8 to 10 inches and it actually handled that snow rather impressively. It handled the end of the drive where the county plow leaves the 'bonus snow' well also. It might work out after all.
Note: All my batteries are charged and kept in the basement where it is approx 55 degrees. Excessive cold hurts battery life, and charging below freezing is a no-no.

Hi Larry. I had problems with that snowfall also. It was the first time I had plugging problems...this will be its third winter and so far I've been real happy with it. Hopefully you hit on the weather conditions and warm driveway as being part of the problem. I'm not sure any gas snowblower I ever had would have done any better. I'm over in Allegan, so we probably had the same conditions.

I looked into battery powered blowers. After doing some research, it came down to Ego and Milwaukee. Both priced at 299. Went with Ego, 56 volts. Same battery as the snowblower above. But only comes with one and charger that is fan cooled. Was concerned with battery life and performance. 250 unite complex. Breezeways, mulch, etc, it handled it like a champ. Very light, easy to handle with one hand. Definitely would go with the 650 cfm vs the smaller version. Moving to that platform for cordless outdoor equipment looks promising.

    • @ariip
      @ariip 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not necessary. I can use deflector to aim snow downward to the ground next to the machine or away from places if necessary avoid hitting things. Use an older gas snapper 1030. Slowing it down will increase risk of sticking and clogging in chute and in impeller housing since this ego like many have impeller gaps. Since I installed impeller kits in mind, I have no gaps and can throw water and slush. If you keep on top of your control and direction it is not necessary and is just another thing to have to deal with that you should not have to. That is why they did away with throttle controls on many gas lawn equipment devices such as push lawnmowers- not necessary.

I have used the snowblower just once in about 6 inches of heavy, wet snow with a layer of ice at the bottom and I was impressed with the way it moved the snow and the throwing distance. It even cleared away the 18 inches or so of snow and ice that the plows left in front of my driveway. I got one yesterday. Thanks for your video. It helped a lot to see the improvements they have made in the 2022 model. The shoot is stiff now. I doubt it will move on its own. They (Ace Hardware) could not deliver it on the EGO pallet so they assembled it before delivering it for free. I appreciate seeing the unboxing so I know nothing was missed or missing. Thanks again! Now all I need is some test snow.

I brought this model earlier in the year and have been impressed with it. We have a winter storm come through. “Probably the same on this is filmed in.” It does great in large amounts of snow, but struggles when it comes to layers of sleet mixed in with the snow. I think it’s to be expected though. Overall it’s amazing. Charge it and the batteries hold a full charge for 30 days. Use it once enough snow falls. Charge it over night. Clear the remaining snow in the morning. 5 out of 5. IMO. Great review Vince.

Iowa reporting in, we got 12" a few weeks ago and I cleared the driveway every 2 hours or so (really just wanted to play with the new toy). But that time in between was enough to charge the batteries back to full from 1 bar. I used the turbo auger speed the entire time so it ate through the batteries faster than if I hadn't.

i live in Long island and boy was this a good year to buy this item, seams like I'm using it every 3 days, love the power, just one thing i wish EGO should have done was to include the 10 amp batteries with this unit, seams like I'm always just running out of power in the end and I have to reach for my other batteries I have. although it sounds great that I can do that but i find that they don't last nearly enough as the 7.5 batteries this comes with. looking forward to the zero turn mower coming up this spring, than i can use those massive batteries on the snow blower in the winter.

I have a 28” Ariens and it is a beast. I use it on my 300’ long driveway and making paths up to my barn and making dog paths in my Northern Michigan home. I am glad the lithium tech is getting better, but with the deep heavy snow, the weights of a gas powered machine is what the EGO does not have. Wet heavy snow is the real test. Gas engines are better for now. EGO might work great on flat surfaces and moderate snow depths.

Seems your shoot lever is easier to maneuver. Mine takes a bit more effort. this may mean they fixed the moving shoot issue.

  • @andrewshaughnessy669
    @andrewshaughnessy669 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The shoot does have a repair kit, other than that to solve your other issue with the controls. If you turn on the auger 1st and then turn on the drive it will lock the auger on and at that point you can release the handle and use your right hand to control the shoot and throw height adjuster. It takes some getting used to.
For the kit go to EGO and make sure you register your tool and let them know you have an issue.

I turn down the auger for 2 reasons, Reason 1: Because I clear a path for the mailman and my sidewalks I don't want to throw snow from one to the other, so I turn the auger way down and shoot the snow very accurately in the lawn between the path and sidewalk. Reason 2: I have a lot of space to clear and 90% of it I can do on the lowest power setting, the snow still goes really far. I turn it to full to clear the bottom of the driveway where the snowplow piles like two feet of snow.

  • @PATZOS

Ego sent a part to correct the chute moving on its own, we got it and the problem is now fixed. Just register yours on their website and they'll send it to you.
Furthermore, you get about twice the battery capacity if you keep it in the lowest auger speeds instead of turbo and it doesnt throw as far when you're in tight spaces. Dont worry about it clogging up, we got about 8 inches of wet heavy snow today here in Canada and it did amazing and never had to go turbo.

I know. It is pathetic. I could go 1 month without grocery shopping at any given time. Except maybe for milk which I can do without if necessary. Why people think they can not manage for 3 days or a week without shopping. Most storms never kept people in for more than a few days anyway. I have a dozen loafs of bread in one freezer. eggs last for a couple of weeks. But then again most of those fools don't buy shovels until a storm, snowblowers or generators until the last minute rather than just having one already all year round and keep them on hand. Same goes with salt/calcium.

Vince I love your videos on Milwaukee battery tools and they have helped me immensely. Now lets get real about the Honda Snowblower being a great deal of maintenance. I own 2 of them. 1 is a 15 year old single stage that I have changed the oil on 2 times in 15 years. The other is a 2 stage 13HP similar to yours and is a 2016 model which I have never had to change the oil yet. I live in Wisconsin so we get plenty of snow. They both start every year without issues and all you have to do is turn the gas valve off and run them till they stop then turn the screw to drain the carb. Run premium gas with no ethanol and you will never have an issue. Lets see how many batteries at 350 dollars a crack for 1 you go through in 15 years. I certainly doubt the gas and oil I use will cost near as much and the Honda will have way more power than the Ego. Yes I understand that a Honda costs a lot more up front but I believe even a cheaper Areins will cost more and run longer.

I bought mine last year at Lowe’s. They were selling it for $1,300 new. Lowes lowered the price when a customer bought it and brought it back claiming it didn’t work. Lowes honors the customer no matter what. They had it running and sold it a lower price. I liked that it was now $1,100 and they honored my veteran discount. At slightly under $1,000, damn good price. When I got home, it worked perfectly. I believe the last person didn’t know you had to engage the lever before you pressed the start button. Make sure you call to get the free piece to lock your chute into place. If not, it will drift while you are operating.

Plus it’s pretty light for a gas blower and I work on small engines so I guess if I pull the pull cord and it doesn’t start I know what to do
But 1 question let’s say if you have the auger control lever down and the drive lever down and you let go of the auger control does it still stay down so you can adjust the chute on the fly

Make sure you replace your auger bolts with actual shear bolts. According to Toro, they put hardened bolts in because their gears are hardened, and the engine should just "cut out" if you hit something like a rock or big ice chunk. Mine didn't and ripped the auger apart. Luckily, i was still under warranty, and the dealer fixed it after arguing with Toro about the design. They replaced my auger, inspected the gears for any damage, and installed shear bolts, even gave me an extra set.

They did fix the chute issue. Just call and get the chute upgrade kit for free. Also as far as the auger speed is concerned I used mine in Turbo and drained the batteries. I now use Eco mode and it works just as good it just doesn't throw it as far and that is in 8 inches of snow. Now the Batteries last forever. I didn't even need to use Turbo for the end of the driveway snowplow stuff. This is a beast.
