I played basketball for a school in Aurora. I was a good baller… damn good. When Chauncey came to our school, it was like a circus, with reporters and a huge following. It was my first chance to see him and what the hype was all about. First impression…… how are they letting this grown man on the court?!?!?! After watching him play and seeing what he could do, it killed my dreams. I knew right then, I wasn’t pro material. He was so much stronger, faster, quicker, jumped higher, and controlled the whole floor. His vision was unbelievable. His game was levels above the rest. Much respect Great baller and leader.
So do I. My wife was a big fan of the teamwork shown by that Pistons team. Rasheed might have been the most... noticed player, but she and I paid the most attention to the way Rip and Chauncey played their own game- within- the- game.
To me, he was one of the greatest leaders the game has ever seen. The way he talks and his presence, so calm, so methodical but yet so confident and powerful. Just like his game.
You nailed it. His leadership and mental game are unmatched. He really was the best leader and floor General of his generation. He played the game like chest and lead his teams better than every PG he played against and he played against all of them and his generation had alot of great PGs. Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Baron Davis, Allen Iverson, Chris Paul, Tony Parker and even Steph Curry when Chauncey was old and Steph just came into the league. There are a lot more guys to that I can't remember. I'm truly grateful and honored to be from Detroit and seeing live in person at the games lead Detroit to greatness.
Being apart of the B-B-B-Billups and B-B-B-BEN Wallace pistons was the best time ever. Best homecourt advantage I've ever witnessed. I've never seen a fan base embrace their team like that 04 pistons team. It was surreal to be a part of.
When the guest has an opportunity to tell their story uninterrupted--these are the best interviews. LOVED IT!!!! Didn't know who Chauncey Billips was until he, Rip, Rasheed, Ben, and Prince came to town and SPANKED my Sixers in the playoffs. Always admired his game...he reminded me of Mo Cheeks in his style of play--he definitely controlled the game as he set the tone for his teammates. A true leader on the court. Thanks, for the video!!!!!
Growing up in Colorado “CB” is the hero of Basketball here. Congrats on the Hall of Fame and Thank you for everything you do for our community! Well deserved Mr.Billups!
Matisse man.. your videos have always been exceptional, but this one takes the cake. The directing, the editing, and just letting Chauncey tell his story how he wanted to.. AMAZING.
Watching Chauncey playing in the NBA was awesome, he played like a true professional, he always played hard from the beginning of the game until the end of the game...all of the new youngsters coming into the NBA need to watch Chauncey's career hilights...so they can see what it takes to be successful and have a good career playing in the NBA
Grew up in Denver got his sister Maria her first job in Finance. Chauncey always did his own thing when there were so many influences (Bloods as in Gang, girls) that could of taken him down. He is a pillar and I wish him the best.
So very good. Not surprised Chauncey is able to narrate his basketball life in such an interesting and heartfelt manner, as he appears this positive and sincere in every press conference. His dedication to his family, his team, and the players is evident in the way he speaks of them and his relationship to them. As he often says, "they play the game the right way" and Chauncey seems to be playing the "game of life" the right way. Thanks, Matisse for another engaging and well-done video.
Chauncey was a total legend during my formative years growing up outside Detroit. Rip Hamilton, Ben Wallace, Prince ... all of them united by Chauncey. What a great interview!
this is a dream come true, watching a doc on one of my favourite players all time made by my favourite player is the best. Thank you Tisse, as a Blazer fan being a core part of the team culture and as an aussie baller gives people like me dreams to play a sport we all love! Also thank you for telling the story of people like Chaunce, Duop etc. PLEASE, PLEASE keep making these they're awesome 👍 Could you make a vid on how it was for you playing college ball and getting to the league?
Chauncey was so fun to watch as a kid. My neighbors had season tickets so when they wouldn’t go to the games they would give them to my mom to take me down to The Palace. so many fond memory’s watching the Pistons during that era
Matisse, you have a talent in capturing a great story. I grew up here in RipCity and I'm a huge fan of our team. This has been really cool learning more about Coach Billups especially now that he is about to enter the Hall of Fame. Thank you for an incredible story and I can't wait to see what else you put out on your channel moving forward. Great job!!! Fan of you also on the court and can't wait until you are playing again. Go RipCity!!!
Bruh… Mr. Big Shot, T-Mac, VC and Camby all on the same team sounds amazing! Imagine that lineup together in their primes in Toronto!! What could’ve been! 😭
I'm from The Bronx but in 92 I played ball at Regis in Denver and played some street ball that summer. But Chauncey was in high school at the time. I think he was a senior but his name was known in the city. Shout out to Tracy Jordan, pat Holloway. BO, Bruce, Ricky and Jojo, Carlos and Keith. And can't forget the OG Crip Big Rog!
That was a great listen - the title hit it just right. As a lifelong Blazer fan I think I have to feel a lot better about the mentality of the coach of the team and his temperament in leading these young fellas...
Great content Tisse! I think we are lucky to have Chauncey at this time. He has helped the youngsters while also being a steady leader for the vets. His experiences are invaluable ! Congrats to Coach on the Hall of Fame recognition! Go Blazers!
Great interview Chauncey!! You told me the same thing about my sons in the NBA, “ he was easy to coach “! Thanks you and I pray all the best and success for you and your family!!❤🙏🏽💪🏽
Great interview. Chauncey FINALLY cleared up something I always questioned. I always thought the Celtics had given up on him too fast and I had a secret disdain for Rick Pitino because of this. But now all is forgiven. I thank Rick and Kevin McHale ( at Minnesota) for being stand up guys and being truthful to Chauncey. I always feel if you're a good person, good things and good ppl will be in your life to guide you. I also totally agree with Chauncey when he said he played to win. Not caring about the stats. If it happens that I scored 30 or scored 6 and we win......you got the end result.....the win and your contributions to that win.
Impressive story with coach! Anticipating your interactions with the next staff or teammate... Personally, I believe covering the entire roster would be amazing!
Great interview! chauncy was a natural born leader of the game and as a coach by the sounds! inspriring, thx for the memories arrrrrrgggh lakers 04! still hurts, killer player
I played Denver Prep basketball during the same time Chauncey played and he was King Shit in Colorado in the late 90's. Although he was not challenged during that time, Denver High School Basketball has never been more competitive.
A complete point guard. He could run the floor, get everyone involved, get his own shot, shoot the three, and play stifling defense. When Dumars traded him for A.I., I knew the Pistons run, was done (1 championship, 2 finals, 6 straight conference finals). The Pistons played unselfishly, while Iverson wouldn't even let the floor touch the basketball. The 2004 upset of the Lakers was among the biggest in sports history. That Piston team, along with Chauncey, was special.
I live in Portland and am a huge Blazer fan. I have also been a big fan of Chauncey Billips as a coach....I think he is exactly the right guy to coach and mentor a young team, and could easily grow into a coach who can take veterans to a championship. I remember when Chauncey was drafted 3rd by the Celtics, his early struggles, the trade to Denver, his time in Minnesota and his emergence in Detroit. It's great to hear him talk about all this and to hear some of the back stories; a quality human being! Thanks for this.
EXACTLY!!! 🎯 Now that we know his true story, we realize just how perfect he is to lead our young core through these growing pains. I love him a lot. ❤
I started watching basketball around the time Chauncey got to Detroit. Never knew or would've imagined he got traded that many times before he got to Detroit. Damn. He dealt with it all so well it seems and finally got to his "happy place". This interview was a really great watch. I love listening to "behind the curtains" stuff by NBA players.
Chauncey Billups was one of my favourite players to watch during his playing days. You could read his spirit in the game, & his shooting & passing... Oh my God!!! 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
Love ya Chauncey! I was so excited when you signed with the Pistons! I knew you had something special and just needed the chance when ready. Thank you for all you did for us!

Thank you, Mr. Big Shot. I'm in Metro Detroit, born and raised, and a Pistons fan since 1990. My first full season was watching Michael Jordan make the Finals. He brought that title back to Detroit! I was 18-19 in his first season here, 24 the day he left. I was young enough to be obsessed, spend on tickets, and it did not feel superficial. I wanted Jeff McInnis, as Kenny Anderson had exposed Chucky Atkins, as a starter, in the 2002 postseason. Billups was a happy surprise. Thank you for all the memories, HOFer.
That's a masterpiece. Being able to go through his entire basketball career and life, while understanding what he learned and went through as a person makes this video special to me.

Mr Big Shot. Thank you for those incredible years back in the 00's. I used to live down the street from the palace and got to as many games as I could back then.

This was great. I always underestimated CB even during Detroit's heyday, but this gave me a huge amount of respect for him. We need a hundred more men like him in the association today. Great vid!
Thank you for all of the amazing childhood memories you and the Pistons gave me. Memories that will last a lifetime. We need that brand of basketball back in Detroit. Truly was incredible. Should have went back to back though!
