    When I was growing up teachers wanted parents more involved. Now it's like many of them don't want parents involved at all. Any adult who tells a child, "Don't say anything to mom and dad about what we talked about, watched, read or did today" is not an adult that should be trusted around a child.

      We weren't taught anything about real life in school. We ourselves were indoctrinated in school. They completely and purposely left out real world educations like writing checks, doing your taxes, economics, and the way the world really is because of they taught us those things people would have refused to do it. This is the same thing they're doing now. They didn't tell our parents what they were teaching us, they didn't make curriculums known to our parents. They're indoctrinating a whole new generation now. Just in a different way.

They know they don’t stand a chance with us united as one, against them. And, there’s nothing they won’t do to keep their power. @@JoshJones-xd5mw The reason everyone chips in to pay for public schools is that educating children, whether you have any yourself or not, is of great benefit to society. It is therefore the concern of the ENTIRE community to ensure that the children in public schools are educated well while at the same time ensuring that the rights of the parents are respected and the children are not exposed to adult concepts before it is age appropriate for them to learn about them. At no point is it appropriate to have pornographic materials, books containing sexually explicit materials or that offer sexual instruction, to minor children. At no point is it appropriate or good for the community for the schools, teachers or other staff to tell kids to keep secrets from their parents or not tell their parents what they are being taught. Such things will effect the community as a whole.
      I am beyond glad that my children are not in school now, that they graduated a couple of decades ago before this nonsense was so prevalent. That does not mean I should no longer have a say in how my tax dollars are spent or in what our schools are teaching the children within my community today. I am greatly concerned at what children are being taught such that they must keep it secret from their parents and why the left seems so intent on forcing it on our kids while trying to silence parents who have very valid concerns. If I am not allowed a voice, then I should have the option not to pay the taxes that fund this.

      Librarians and teachers are trained to serve children's and young adult's interests and recommend age appropriate reading material. You might not want your child to read Gender Queer, but another parent might not want them to read the bible. Should both books be made unavailable at the library then? And speaking of which: just because something is on the shelf does not mean it is put into children's hands. This is not an issue about public access and I would argue, this is not even about children at all.
      Every parent can control their child's individual library use by accompanying them to the library and approving their reading material. However, a single parent or even group of parents cannot and should not dictate what all children have access to in a school or public library.

When you were young you were out of the house away from your parents thousands of times. The reality is that children aren't accompanied by their parents for large portions of their lives and every parent cannot control their child's individual library nor approve their reading material and that's why these books should not be so easy to view in public libraries. If an adult wants to purchase or read these books then ok. If the majority of parents/taxpayers don't want these books on show in public, that is not dictating, it is democracy.

Bible and Gender Queer should be in a "restricted section" where parents can say, "I allow my child to read from this section or I do not" Books should be rated, like TV and movies are. It seems no one in the school is taking responsibility and when the parents do, the teacher/school dist complains. I think we call that a "book store" because it is for people of all ages and children are usually accompanied by an adult who oversees their purchases/reading choices. You can do the same with your own child in a library btw if you are worried about their reading. However, dictating what all other children (or adults!) have access to is undemocratic and totalitarian.

      @angeliqueazul8670 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ericdailey8587 "If a book is not suitable for a school library, why would it be suitable for a public library?" - Well, because a school library's user group are students (children, young adults) and a public library's user group is the general public aka everybody. "Those books are for sale and a patron can always purchase those books if they are not in the public library." Whichever books you are referring to does not even matter here but the purpose of a public library is to give the general public access to resources. Most public libraries are free and therefore accessible to everyone, no matter their financial situation. So, no, it is not okay to ban books from public libraries that individual people take offense with based on religious beliefs or a conservative worldview. What if librarians would tell you: if you don't like the library, you can always go to a bookshop instead. That would probably upset you, so maybe you should try seeing the other side of your argument.

Do you really think everyone would hand over the same amount of money they currently spent in taxes to worthy causes - and not just worthy but frankly boring causes like road maintenance - if they had a choice? And would that even work? How would you know where money was needed and which organizations were corrupt? Who has got the time for all that research? This is why we homeschooled our 5 children because this started over 45 yrs ago. We have 2 going for PHds , 4 Masters, 4 Bachelor Degree's. Our 5th child chose to get married and have a family, homeschool and teach dance. I refused to let the Public School System raise our children.

      The important thing here is that you raised them well, you educated them well, and you taught them life skills well. Schools can do that, too, but not if they are run by power-hungry fools who believe they are the only ones who can possibly know what is right for kids. The real problem is NOT schools per se, it's allowing these reactionary idiots to dictate what and how schools do the education.

    I remember the day when literature like "Every boy is not Blue" would not be allowed in ANY school system in America. Why are elected and appointed officials not being jailed for this?

    My question is who allowed donations to schools from those special interest groups. Then they feel entitled to infiltrate our schools with there sexual deviants and lies to our children, wanting to defile , corrupt and steal the the children’s innocence

    Why can't we just put age appropriate check out on books , like with movies.? And enforce it with a computer system, red flag them. And must have parental consent and photo iD for each tagged book.

    In the county I live in the county taxpayers pay for our libraries. We do not accept any federal money for our libraries. We the taxpayers own the libraries not the politicos. If (thankfully only parents of current students are allowed to sit on our school board) same for our library board. So we will never allow these perverted books in our libraries period. If the federal government we’re to ever try to force us to accept books that the citizens of our county do not want we will simply shut down the public libraries. Period. We will not abide by a politician’s or judges order to accept books that we do not want in OUR libraries. The federal government has no right to dictate and we do not need them to intervene in our local polices. We do not accept sexual deviants as normal people. We teach our kids that they are not normal people. We do teach them that these perverts and freaks have a right to choose how they live but they do not have a right to force their views on those that disagree with them. We would take any action necessary to keep that trash out of our schools and libraries. We are a very close knit county and we know right from wrong. There is no gray area.

    I remember back in the 70's and 80's none of this was a problem. Didn't need any books for this type of deviant behavior. Everybody still did fine without them.
