    another tip: thin layer of resin. cure it. black sharpie. then final mound of resin for wing case. cure it no waiting vs nail polish and no nail polish to store.

    Your hand was a little bit in the way, so I didn't get to see if you applied clear resin over the black nail polish. How did you do that if the nail polish was still wet?
    Also, I've tried Loon's black resin and Solarez UV cure black resin: both wipe off so easily after days of drying. Is that normal? Or am I doing something wrong? They both seem like terrible products but am interested in hearing other opinions.

      @tacticalflyfisher3817  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jerrod,
      I normally tie a full batch to the nail polish stage. When the last one is done, the first one is ready for resin. As for most black resins, they are not good. The one exception I've seen is the new UV Craft that we recently got in the shop. Their clear resin has become my new favorite as well. www.tacticalflyfisher.com/uvcraft-uv-fly-tying-resin/

    Another great tie - thank you. Two quick questions: one, I’ve started putting the black wing-case on the other side ie in the elbow of the eye on a jig hook. This is because it’s going to ride point up, (especially with your excellent inverting beads). Is this foolish? And two, where can I get the 16/0 fluorescent thread? My globrites are a bit coarse for subtle collars. Thanks very much and keep up the great work!

    Hey I was reading tactical fly fishing and read about shin guards for fishing. Do you have any specific recommendations or more info. Had also read they can wear on the fabric of the waders. Also favorite shades for sunglasses. Otherwise book has taught me so much. Thanks for sharing your knowledge

    • @tacticalflyfisher3817
      @tacticalflyfisher3817  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hunter, I've never had an issue with shin guards wearing on waders. I was using a pair of pads from esoteric tackle in the UK in the book. They lacked padding though. I've switched to a pair of Impact Soft guards from Italy. They also lack padding, so I added some 1/2" closed cell foam to the inside of the pads and they work well. I normally wear yellow lenses year round. Copper would be my second choice.

    I’m going to tie a bunch of these up for sure. The buddy reminds me somewhat of how Kevin Compton ties his tungsten torpedo. The love the perdigon tinsel. Currently working on a box with all tagged pheasant tails in various weights and bead sizes so the perdigon tinsel is used for the rib and the fish love them

    Hey Devin, thanks for all the info! Great instructions as always. Another fly to add to the fly box. Hey, did you ever do a tutorial on the "Backflop jig"? I think you called it the "squirrel inverted streamer" in the video, Finding Big Browns in the In Between Water, a while back. You caught a really nice brown on it. You were fishing a section of water a person had fished a while with an indicator rig. You caught 3 nice browns in it, the biggest fish of the day was caught on the "Backflop Jig". That fly would be nice in my box as well. Let me know if I missed it. Trying to get the fly box ready for spring. Will be placing an order shortly online for some materials.

    I'm getting into tying my own nymphs to better control my sink rates and have been going back through your tying tutorial catalog. Appreciate these immensely!
    Curious about the bead and hook selection when you tie these and other patterns. When do you choose the jig vs standard hook eye, slotted vs inverting beads, and mixing & matching those for euro nymphing?
    Cheers!

    • @tacticalflyfisher3817
      @tacticalflyfisher3817  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patrick,
      I don't worry much about whether a hook is a jig or not. I try lots of hooks and evaluate them on how they hook and hold fish, whether they bend out or not, and how durable their points are. Some hooks are good in certain sizes but not in others so I match the best hook to the size and type of fly I'm tying. I choose slotted and inverting beads based on weight. The inverting beads are slightly heavier in the same size so they fill in weight gaps.

    • @patches152
      @patches152 2 ปีที่แล้ว
