    Every LE or PMC agency I've worked with issues or requires Safariland level 3 holsters . The reason they go mostly Glock is because Safariland has multiple LE contracts and an absurd amount of LE agencies issue Glock . Mine issues the Glock gen5 G17 . We use the Safariland 7ts series which is awesome also . My personal setup duty level pistol is the G45 with Holosun 509t direct mounted by Jagerwerks . I use the Safariland 6390 RDS holster you reviewed in the video and really like it . However as far as RDS holsters go I prefer the Safariland rds DO 63 series holster for the better draw imo . The 6390 RDS holster does have the optic protection flapper thingy 🤷🏻‍♂️that I prefer using on duty as it protects the optic from rain, debris,etc. As you pointed out there is a learning curve with this holster when compared to the Safariland 7ts series or other none RDS holsters . To me it has more of a vertical draw that's super fast once your muscle memory is in tune with the system . Also I would advise anyone to use the QLS on all of their holsters even if you don't plan on switching them out .. you might eventually & you'll be extremely happy to have the QLS at that time . Really good review ‼️🔫

    Great review! Safariland just revamped their site so you can add all sorts of stuff right on the holster page. Unfortunately, they still really don't explain what the acronyms or numbers mean, but it's Safariland, what do you expect.
    I'm really satisfied with my 6390. The thing's probably wearing more add-ons than my actual pistol. I've found Centrifuge Training's Negative Cant Plate is a must with Safariland's factory holster angle (though I've not tried the new CUBL)

    I just ordered this for my glock 34 gen5 mos. I have a holosun scs on it. My finish will be basket weave which i have always used and it was in stock when i ordered last night. I wont be getting the surefire 300u light right away so its nice to know that it will be secure without it. My version is only level 1 which is all i need sitting behind a desk with it at my job and it is still secure with als.

    So far as I've researched a holster for my soon to come M17 and FN 509 tactical the 6390 says that it'll fit them, I'm sure you are able to fit several other full size handguns than just Glock so it honestly shines at modularity as it is

    There should be a place where anyone can go to try on different holsters before they buy them. Kinda like a shoe store. And if you need one custom made, then they will help you through the process and pick it up at the store when it gets there. It can be called "The Hol-Store". But it can also carry EDC belts, duty belts, battle belts, plate carriers, body armor, and all kinds of optics, and accessories. But no firearms and ammo should be sold there. Only because the time should be spent on fitting the right gear for the right person.😏 I'm gonna need 5% of all profits if this dream comes true. It will work. Never waist money on a crappy holster again! I have a box full of holsters in my closet.🤦‍♂️ Just a lot of money that I could have used on ammo. Just......outrageous!

    Hi Mr. Penguin it's me again. Your eccentric Finnish viewer.
    Could you confirm or deny, if there's a possibility to modify the Holster's front end to allow a G34 length handgun to be inserted and locked in. Asking as my 45 is factory ready to adopt Muzzle devices and I'm putting a comp on it.
    Also you forgot to mention (most likely because you haven't tried) that the RDS cover does not close over a Aimpoint Acro or other Block style closed emitter Pistol sights.
    Have a wonderful day. I'm so joining the Discord later o/

    • @thegunpenguin
      @thegunpenguin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're absolutely right, I haven't tried the Acro, yet, sadly. But, folks are saying that the door won't close over the Aimpoint. As you can imagine, that's not a big deal, with the enclosed emitter.
      The Glock 34 should fit in the Safariland without issue. I didn't mention this in the video because I haven't personally tried it, and I try to avoid mentioning such details if I haven't witnessed them myself. I bought this holster precisely because I want to put a muzzle device on my 45. I guess we're on the save wavelength! The only issue we might run into is choosing a muzzle device with an appropriate thickness.
      Always great to hear from you, and you're welcome on the Discord anytime!

    I didn’t think the “fuzzy” suede in the holster actually worked at protecting the finish. I tried an older 6000 series holster several years ago (around 2013) and it “fuzzy” suede lining began acting like an abrasive, rubbing the slide excessively. It was not a smooth draw either. Did they fix this, or did you just get lucky?

    So just to be sure, do all 6000 series have the ability to mount the QLS or RTI hanger? Weather it’s a drop leg or belt model?

    • @thegunpenguin
      @thegunpenguin  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't used the RTI bits. I've got a few G Code products lying around, but I can't say whether or not they work with any of the 6000-series Safariland holsters. However, all of the Safariland holsters that I have, be they 6- or 7-series, work with the QLS mount. I'm reticent to speak in absolutes when it comes to anything related to firearms, and especially Safariland, given how convoluted their numbering and compatibility is. But I can tell you that all the ones I've tried have worked, and I have many, many Safariland holsters.
      Sorry for the vague answer, but I like to be as precise as possible when answering questions. Ultimately, no one but Safariland can tell you definitively.

    What purpose does the screw serve that’s on the side (closer to the top) of the holster? Does it tighten and act as another method of retention?

    • @cb7677
      @cb7677 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That screw is acting to secure the auto locking system inside of the holster. Because its purpose is to hold that mechanism in place, I highly doubt it is intended to be adjusted, just tightened and left to be.

    • @marcomendoza77
      @marcomendoza77 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SCB1111 I was fortunate enough to be able to make it work without a light. I ended up retaining the muzzle end that goes into the barrel end and shortened one of the protrusions to allow the pistol to seat properly and lock in place. Granted it’s only a range holster for me but the holster was not really made for the 1911. Without the barrel retaining end nub/protrusion the pistol doesn’t stay put for the ALS to lock in in place. So far it works but not as smooth as my 6354do with my Glock

      @@richardmeas5035 Happy to help, and I'm sorry they don't have a model that will work. That's one of the serious issues with Safariland. • @thegunpenguin
      @thegunpenguin  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardmeas5035 That's entirely understandable. I suspect that it would probably fit, based on the sizes involved, but that's purely a hunch.
      When I need something that Safariland doesn't make, I've had good luck with these folks:
      www.mwtsmn.com/kydex-holster/magazine-carrier-mrs-fkgs7-rjhsp
      They don't send me stuff for review, or even give me a discount, I just like the holsters. I still prefer Safariland over their stuff, but they are the best kydex options I've found.

      @DevilFrog 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      UPDATE: Unfortunately the Olight BALDR Mini [on G19] will not fit in the holster; it initially clears in height and width, but must be forced in at the half-way point. However, the G19 w/Olight PL Valkyrie Mini 1&2 will fit with minimal vertical movement, and it can be adjusted enough to reduce that to a negligible amount (the side tension screw must be adjusted a bit); I’m using it on duty with no concern of snags or restricted draws.

    I just got this holster and it feels like the gun sticks sometimes when drawing. It seems like the the locking section doesn’t clear the ejection port every time I draw and the gun will hang up. This is something I haven’t had with my other non rds als holsters. Have you noticed anything like this?

    • @thegunpenguin
      @thegunpenguin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @99Ironside
      @99Ironside 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      thegunpenguin I just got it and wanted to make sure it wasn’t a training issue first but seems like it catches slightly on the ejection port even when the thumb nub is pulled all the way back. May have to give them a call

    • @thegunpenguin
      @thegunpenguin  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to note, that did happen to me with Safariland holsters in general for the first 3 months that I was using them; I didn't quite have the motion down, and I'd try to dry before the lock section cleared the ejection port. But, you have experience with other ALS holsters, so I don't think that's the problem.

    • @Breese147
      @Breese147 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I experienced this problem with a buddy’s Surefire X300U-B. The B model has that extra circle nub for tightening via whatever flat head device you use to tighten it. I had purchased the X300U-A model and it worked fine with it.
