Good lecture, but I am not sure I understand the chart at 13:59 It says that Pregnant women require 27mg per day of Iron whereas a regular non-pregnant woman requires 29mg? I thought pregnant women needed more iron than non-pregnant women? I am not sure I trust this information on that chart? And then the area at the end (most right columns) are cut off. What are the categories of C A and D listed there? This chart was more confusing than helpful for me.
Dear Robynne, Iron requirements of pregnant women are shown as per the RDA2020 document. Requirements are less as compared to non pregnant women due to two important reasons. 1. There is no menstrual blood loss. 2. There is increased absorption of iron during pregnancy. The hidden columns are Vitamin C, A, and D . Hope your query has been answered.
@@health360letstalkbydrjaspr4 I also just wanted to look up the differences between the RDA2020 for India you mentioned vs. the Canadian guidelines. The RDA2020 updated version actually also suggests that iron is increased in pregnancy. Maybe the chart has been transcribed incorrectly in your video or it was an older draft version that was not published. The Indian RDA2020 suggests 40mg/day of iron for pregnant women. This is similar and in-line with the Canadian guidelines that I am more familiar with. I found some of the information here: fssai.gov.in/upload/advisories/2021/07/60f1798019f94Direction_RDA_16_07_2021.pdf
Excellent explaination
Thanks a lot ma'am
