    I, as the viewer you're talking about, really don't care that much about Rory's shots. Seeing Mark's attitude like this turns me off to viewing much more than not knowing about Rory's shot holes. I just want to see beautiful golf courses get played around the world with some great shots and terrible shots mixed in. Seeing someone get so upset over something so minuscule is embarrassing.

      We won’t play then bruh. We like to have a comp but it’s not a comp if shot are taken when remembered. 🙈
      No problem we will stop 👍

      Mark, I've been watching your vlogs since almost Day One, and you've improved my golf immensely, but I really don't get this. I watch other vlogs and there are handicaps involved, I don't see anyone else saying/doing this. My own experience is identical. If you want to make others declare to you their shot/s given on a hole before they play so YOUR game will be improved, you might be in breach of the rules governing offering/asking advice. I stopped watching this vlog after this incident. If you have a private arrangement with Rory, perhaps you should have declared this beforehand too.

      All good bruh. Mar is passionate about his videos. I need to announce my shots for you guys and for them and do have a habit of forgetting. Haven't forgotten much since so maybe it needed saying. ;-)

      Rory Anderson It takes a good person to take critisism like that rory. For the record, i dont think having a bad memory should make u the target of an angry lecture.... otherwise people with brain injuries affecting memory should be the target of anger constantly ;)

      Mark Crossfield we don't know your relationships with any of them, and I understand this is your buisness. I also understand professionally how that made you look. You didn't lose me as a subscriber because of the rant you lost me from the childish way you responded to others. I wish you the best.

      If you watch enough vids with ray you would know it's well earned. Its proper courtesy everywhere to declare shot holes and that doesnt include that this is content for public consumption... mark was well within his rights in this case.. not to say he hasn't been a jerk before but then again who hasn't

    • @PotatoGobbler_
      @PotatoGobbler_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL, Ray is his friend and this is a fun video for youtube. If he was being serious this wasn't justified. If it was a joke or an attempt at humor I get it.

      What’s the point in playing with someone who takes shots only if he remembers???
      Do you even play golf?

    This is Ray's fault for not standing upto Mark sooner. The passive aggressiveness shown by Mark towards Ray has gotten to a point now where it's really uncomfortable viewing . Surely you must watch these back and be slightly embarrassed Mark? Can you imagine Rick or Pete ever acting in such an appalling way towards one of their 'friends' especially on camera? . Ray didn't mention he had a shot so you felt that was worthy of demeaning him like some naughty child. I really really hope Ray responded off air by telling you to grow up or words to that effect . You have a great channel with great content Mark. You really need to learn some respect though and I suspect many are close to unsubscribing due do the bullying. Ray,if you're reading this,for gods sake start standing up for yourself man!! The way Mark speaks to you is embarrassing so unless you show some balls now,the worst it's going to get.

    It’s friendly golf. Chill out, Mark. If you were going to silent out the monologue why didn’t you just cut it out? True friends lift each other up, not belittle them to the likes of thousands to watch. The aggression tells me you’re one foot in, one foot out with helping out Ray. Go all in, bruh. Just my two cents. Keep it up, Ray!

      Robert Hall I agree that you should inform yourself of shot holes when deciding your strategy for a hole. I do not agree that announcing shot holes is required, or is a widely agreed common courtesy.
      The substantive issue related to this video is shot hole announcements for the benefit of the viewer.
      Section I (Etiquette) of the Rules does not mention handicaps at all. Rule 6-2.a says that players should determine each other's handicap before the match starts. Rule 33-4 says the Committee must publish a table indicating the order of holes at which handicap strokes are given or received. This is inevitably done by printing the indices on the score card. So the rules do not require shot hole announcements, as far as I can read.
      I have played club golf for 40 years in Australia (and been club captain of a top 100 club), and in my experience players do not generally announce shot holes. Everyone has access to a scorecard with each hole index printed on it, so there is no need for announcements, and none are expected. Good course management of your own game would surely include already knowing whether any shots are given before you play a hole anyway. If in doubt, which would be rare, you can always check with your opponent.

    Am I the only one wondering whether ragging on Rory is starting to border on killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
    I'm a huge fan of Mark and I've no idea what the arrangements are between Mark and YGT but sometimes my toes curl at this shit. I had to stop watching this episode because I felt so embarrassed. Which is hilarious really because I've never stopped a video due to not knowing whether Rory had a shot or not.

  • @rhysowen9566
    @rhysowen9566 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The on course happenings aren’t the only thing that has surprised me the most out of this, it’s the way Mark has conducted himself in the comments sections as well.
    A lot of people are commenting saying how uncomfortable this exchange made them and they stopped watching because of it, yet Mark’s ego is making him ignore any rational feedback because he thinks he is always right.
    The irony of this exchange is that Mark has blown up because of Rory affecting the ‘quality of content’ but his actions have caused a lot more damage to his channel than Rory not calling shots ever could.
    Just take a look at the ratio of viewers from part 1 to part 2 compared to every other course vlog - it’s way down on averages. I wonder why?
    Marks ego effecting content seems to be a growing trend on the channel - he can’t deal with being challenged on any ideas without throwing a tantrum. Coach, Dan and Rory always seem tentative to give any ideas when promoted because Mark shits on anything they say when it’s not 100% in line with his thinking.
    PewDiwPie, the most successful TH-camr, has spoken openly about the negative effect TH-cam fame has on contented creators, and so many have got to the stage where their ego grows to a level where they can’t take on any feedback because they think they’re always right about everything.
    Mark’s channel growth has really stagnated in the last 6 months and I’m positive it’s simply down to his ego. He asks viewers to post their thoughts in the comments then tells them they’re fucking stupid for having an opinion that varies from his.
    A few years back, he was in a position to be able to dominate the social media golf space but his ego has pushed him so far into a corner and alienated himself from a lot of the golfing population.
    I’m getting to the end of being able to see past the ego, and it won’t take much more of it for me to move on and stop watching. There is so much good golf content on TH-cam these days, we’re no longer limited to Mark, Rick and Pete - because there are so many other options, it makes it a lot easier to walk away when one of them is being a prick. Rick was a complete cunt in the comments section when a few people mentioned how many the zoom/focus on his camera was - instead of taking the feedback on board he had a go at everyone. He lost a lot of viewers after showing his true colours, the exact same thing is happening here.
    Be humble and engage in 2 way dialog, old boy, discuss ideas and convince people of your argument instead of shitting on those don’t agree with - you have the opportunity to have the best golf community online, but’s it’s being lost on your ego trip.

    I don't want to take sides but I'm assuming YGT is making all the golf and room arrangements. Please fellas.

    Very accustomed to the way the world works here. But it’s first time I’ve thought watching Mark crossfield that he was an arrogant patronising belittling man. Not cool to talk to Rory that way. Mark will come back with, “yer, but he ain’t in an office and he’s out playing with his mates”....not applicable here. You don’t talk to your ‘mates’ in that way, and if mark needed to say something like he did, do it off camera and have a conversation with Rory. Don’t belittle the man and try and take the moral high ground. A lot of people in life wouldn’t let you speak to them in that tone/manner (myself included) it just so happens Rory is a kind, soft heart gent that mark got away with it. Not cool brah, and you should think about the way you address issues and talk to people. Mark crossfield is the first to complain when people belittle/talk down to him. For instance, when the magazines twisted his words on seniors playing golf, and how he was treated by TaylorMade. So mark being and intelligent human being should realise how it is to be treated that way and shouldn’t speak to Rory in that manner.

    • @MarkCrossfield
      @MarkCrossfield  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you are clear we have talked about this off camera loads and he still does it. We also could of left this bit out but all agreed it was funny so left it in.
      Your comment is about your ideas of us. Not about us but thanks for joining in and we are flattered that you think about us 👍

    • @jtallent8423
      @jtallent8423 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mark Crossfield I would never pretend I see your full relationship with your team and excuse my wording if that is how it came across.
      From my opinion you are a man who is thinks and acts outside the box (that is a positive) and a highly intelligent human, but your whole personality changed towards Rory there. Very direct, you say you all agreed that it was funny and decided to keep it in, but it is quite obvious Rory’s looks at you and coach in admiration, so him agreeing in that being funny could be very swayed in him not wanting to lose face, per say.
      However, quite clearly stated this is my opinion and I merely see what is shown.
      Tops vids otherwise, looking forward to the Ireland trip
      Topman 👌

      Mark Crossfield please don’t reinterpret my words or insinuate something and change the context of my written text, as I know you’re not a fan of this either, as shown by certain media examples of seniors in golf you have had the misfortune to be misunderstood for. I have never questioned rays intelligence.
      I should never of written that comment as it has I feel my words are being manipulated.
      Keep up the great vids. You’re the best golf vlogger around.

    Perhaps I'm missing something here, is Mark saying that Rory has to declare a handicapped-allowed shot on each hole he has one, prior to his tee-shot? And this is for the benefit of viewers? It's no rule I'm aware of. Does anyone care? Just curious, love to watch the lads play.

    • @jalanhart
      @jalanhart 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter D yes it does mean that Ray has to announce his shots or no shots for the hole because it changes the way the hole is played for Mark and Matt, which effects the content we view.
      Let’s say it’s a risk reward hole, maybe a drivable par 4 or a tricky par 5. Whether Ray has a shot or not can decide if Mark and Coach play aggressive or safe.
      If not in the rules then it’s just common courtesy and etiquette, of which Ray has been reminded of many, many, many times before and still continues to not be bothered to change.

    • @GreenDistantStar
      @GreenDistantStar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If Rory's opponents want to know that, that's their job. If him getting a stroke changes their approach, more to the point. To the best of my knowledge Rory is under no obligation to make such announcements.

    • @jalanhart
      @jalanhart 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter D He’s obligated to based on his agreement with Mark (accord to Mark). If you read some of his other comments he’s said that he has too much to worry about between multiple cameras and making sure the audio and visual is good, that he doesn’t have to and shouldn’t have to manage Ray’s shots. It’s been the deal that Ray has one job and that’s to keep track of his own shots, and he has forgotten for years now, and I don’t blame Mark for snapping.
      If this was a private comp off camera that’s different, but it’s not is it?

    • @GreenDistantStar
      @GreenDistantStar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If this is the case, it is an arrangement of which few if any viewers were aware, or cared about. It's also an arrangement outside the Rules and Etiquette of the game. I guess if Rory agreed he'd do it, fair enough, but given the nature of the game they're playing, I'm unclear as to why it was such a big issue. No doubt there's more to it, and that's not really any of my business.

    • @jalanhart
      @jalanhart 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter D at the end of the day it comes down to courtesy because he knows Mark and coach have bigger pictures to worry about and think about with the camera and mic and editing and Instagram, etc. but it’s also a comp between them that the viewers can get engaged with. Mark and coach can’t be expected to do it because of all else that’s going on, and it’s not fair if they make it to the green and then learn that Ray has a shot. No, it may not be a rule or a section of etiquette in the rules of golf book, but it’s a common sense one to let both the viewers and his competitors know whether he has a shot or not because it has the potential to seriously effect the comp.

  • @racoonbomber
    @racoonbomber 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    For any new viewers who wouldnt understand your frustration with Rory repeatedly not declaring his shots after that aggressive outburst they wouldnt watch the end of the video or even think about subscribing.
    I understand your frustration with Rory and that it may have been called for but it was completely unessessaary to leave it in the final edit of the video. If you are prepared to show your outburst at Rory, I think you should be prepared show a video of your apology to him!

      100% Mark's attitude to Ray is getting steadily worse these past few months . Banter is one thing but belittling so called mates is bang out of order and Mark is very lucky Ray is such a nice guy. Also finding 'coachs' attitude of just giving up halfway through a game,incredibly tedious now. Just don't go on tour if you find it all so boring .

      Yeah, the disparity between Mark and his playing partners is starting to make for pretty bad viewing. He needs to bring back, like, Pickard immediately to make matches competitive again. Also, pretty clear Mark was bullied as a kid, just based on how he acts towards others. All the "banter" is just him making fun of his playing partners. It never comes back to him.

    Been an avid watcher for years. I get that this is Mark's livelyhood and that it must be draining sometimes but many would kill to be out there doing what he does. Really feel for Rory here. I do understand Mark's frustration if he does feel that strongly but I watch course vlogs to see mates having fun on the course, not taking things too seriously - that's what I always thought these were - not super serious comps (not including daily vlogs, instruction or reviews in that). Could join a snooty club and play comps if I wanted overly serious...or just watch the golf on TV. Surely fun with mates on the course is why YGT are involved here, to sell holidays where mates have a laugh together on beautiful courses at great locations, not where one 'mate' can constantly bully another with no fear of return abuse. How hard is it for Mark to look at the card anyway? YGT need to now reflect on the angle here. I'm always looking at the YGT website for deals. I wouldn't have known it existed without this partnership but would this sort of thing be tollerated in their office...i hope not. So why is this ok? This is the second thumbed down video ever from me (other one was another attack on Ray on the way back from France). I'd love to one day watch vlogs with my kids as they have been great for me to learn about how to get round a course, especially what Mark has taught me about course management. But that sort of behaviour is not what I would want my kids to think is OK. Shame cause I watch every day and usually love the content. The quality is outstanding for something that's free. Unsubscribed for the time being though :(

    The countdown to the "incident" was awesome, and we all know that this has been a long time in the making. I understand what Mark was saying about it being better to keep the viewers informed. I also feel that it frustrates Mark to no end that not only does Rory not factor the shot given into his strategy, but that most of the time he doesn't even know if he is getting a shot on a hole or not. If Rory got a shot on a hole he could hit two seven irons, keep the ball in play, and be there for one about 350 yards or more down the fairway.

      But when Rory does try and play "safe" he gets pushed into playing 3 woods etc into 250 yard greens when he doesn't want to.
      I'd love to know genuinely how these trips work.... i.e. because Rory works for YGT do Mark, Coach and Dan get "free" trips to these places to promote their service? I don't want to have a direct dig at anyone because I love the content and really enjoy watching these VLOGS, but if it is the case that they get free trips because of Rory then it wouldn't hurt to remember that.
      Hope that doesn't come across too harsh.

    Since I have 3 hours till my first video conference (from home of course), I have time to show my amateur sociologist skills:
    1. Just an instance of MC frustration, likely fueled by travel fatigue, boiling over on topic discussed many times during vlog planning or strategy sessions.
    2. MC displayed many personalities depending upon who the playing partners are.
    a. Kevin, Picard: insecurity as they are highly skilled players.
    b. Buzza: bully as his personality easily dominated (honestly, if he treated me as he did Buzza, seat of the trousers/scruff of the neck and in a pond he'd have gone)
    c. Coach, Rory: most natural...mostly as good mates but also towards whom genuine emotions tended to surface.
    Summary: MC has mastered elimination of the most off-putting behavior, has turned a lot of it towards himself and built one of the most impressive brands I've ever seen and I will continue to enjoy about 95% of the content he provides.

    I think I speak for most people when I say this, but nobody actually cares if Ray gets a shot. The reason being that this is a youtube course vlog whose main purpose is to entertain. The final result doesn't actually matter. I just want Ray to play his best golf and he probably feels the same way, whether he gets a shot or not doesn't change anything.

    • @MarkCrossfield
      @MarkCrossfield  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow. You don’t for one minute it effects our enjoyment or even our game. Let alone the out come of the video and how we might play a hole depending on his shot or not.
      This is simply crazy. We the people playing want to know. Rory knows this is a problem and apologised for it.
      You might just want entertainment but if we don’t know the score then we won’t know how to react or play.
      Your comment completely baffles me. Completely

    • @JulienB_BTW
      @JulienB_BTW 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Has a viewer, personally, knowing if Rory has a shot does in fact make no difference. The effects it has on how you play, also doesn't impact me has a viewer. The outcome of he video is not based on the end result or how you hit a shot over the other for example, but it's seeing friends enjoy a game of golf together and having a few laughs. If it effects you guys has players, then it's a discussion you could have had off camera or with a different tone perhaps...

    • @MarkCrossfield
      @MarkCrossfield  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It effects the video then in turn if we are having fun or not then in turn if you see us having fun ????
      Same point as I just made Bruh. It ruins our game I am NOT the only player moaning about this we have asked him for years to respect the content enough to let us know when he has shots as we are busy filming.
      So I am clear we don’t enjoy Ray forgetting or claiming shots after on on the green it kills the FUN for us.

    • @MarkCrossfield
      @MarkCrossfield  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @MarkCrossfield
      @MarkCrossfield  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To say you don’t care if or when he gets a shots means you can NOT gauge truly if he is playing well or not as he is trying to beat the other golfers????
      I am sorry thanks for joining in but your comment is simply as far away from what we feel as it could be.
      So what I mean is you are watching and have made up your own wants but they are nowhere near what we are trying to film or show. This is neither good or bad but just what it is. 👍

    I don’t know what to say. When I play a competition or a match etc. The handicap is ‘announced’ on the first tee and on the card I hand over. Obviously the second part doesn’t apply here. It’s not for me to announce on every tee when I have a shot. Especially in March play. Your fellow competitors know your handicap, they also know the strike index of every hole as its on the card and on every tee box. A bit of a mountain over a mole hill in my opinion.
    If a competitor and myself walk off a green and I say “two fours? All square.” And he turns around and says “nah I had 4 nett 3.” I’d be annoyed with myself for not knowing he had a shot on that hole

    I get that for the viewers it is a must to announce the shot holes BUT as a Canadian golfer who has played many match play rounds I've never had an opponent tell me their stroke holes or announce it on the tee. It's always been up to me to be aware. As a matter of fact when you announced it as the number three handicap I knew it was a stroke hole for Mr. 7. In a match I would be doing just that with my opponent. And I wouldn't announce if I got a stroke. But that is here and under different circumstances of course. I honestly had to check the comments to see what the issue was.

    Jeez people are getting overtly heated on this comment thread. I completely understand Mark’s frustrations. I know it’s been mentioned a million times about Ray’s shots but I genuinely think Ray not mentioning the shots is just secondary to his personality and wouldn’t read into it at all. For me as a viewer, I really don’t care too much about Ray’s shot holes or the competition aspect. I watch for the banter between the lads. If there’s some good golf, then it’s a bonus but the terrible golf is hilarious too. At the same time, it’s Marks channel and if he feels it’s impacting the production value, he’s well within his rights to say it to Ray. Love the way Coach tries to de-escalate the situation immediately 😂. I must be one of the only people on here who actually has no interest in seeing the unedited version. I know Mark probably won’t read this a week after the video has been uploaded but All the people involved in this channel make it the great viewing that it is every day including mark, coach, Rory, dan etc. So I hope that it continues going forward and I always look forward to your new content. Weird that people don’t get it. Other Brit you tubers don’t take care of the audience: they have a private bit of fun, and we are supposed to enjoy it. Why Mark is so much better is he is always aware of the audience, he tells us how long the hole is, he shows us where the green is, he constantly gives information and context. He also hams up his domineering character, and without these things, his professionalism, his real warmth plus comic ego, these vlogs would not be the great fun they are. So you have a guy with great talent, a big ego, and serious awareness of the audience, and he just cannot tolerate it when his gang forget that this is actually a product that is being made for customers; it is not what it has to look like, a group of casual players having fun for their own benefit. Coach always gets it, that’s evident in his editing, he knows it is not just about him.

    What i enjoy about this channel.....My Worthless Opinion On The "Team" = The Bald Eagle: love to watch him play his 90-95% execution of his skill set. Watching/listening to his thought process has helped my game. The COACH - he is the Roller Coaster: goes from "putting GOD", "chipping GOD", "Beef Cake Ball" (do appreciated his new swing).....to WTF just happened- love his attitude with stray shots - "I've got a shot - no worries bruh will get par". Then you have the ADHA Smiling Clown (aka Rory)....plays with a very relaxed- almost tuned out focus....has no idea of what is happening around him (Shot, no Shot) then comes up with a great shot once in a while. Then the rare "Grand Dad" appearance - he his the Vanilla Ice Cream of the group: very enjoyable but not much of excitement. LOVE THE MIX...ALWAYS a Joy to watch. You gents are great together. Thank you ALL.

    Then Rory steps up and hits a great shot. Mark, you should "go off on Ray" before every swing - Like becoming part of Rory's preshot routine.

      I was thinking the same thing! perhaps Raymondo needs a bit of a telling off more often, because if it makes him hit his drive like that. Come on Raymondo you can do it.

    Stop hatin on Rory. They always talk smack and make fun of him. Not everyone can be great or even good at golf. Maybe he needs new friends

    Quality editing piece coach! Crossfield using his dad voice on Ray should have been a two stroke penalty

    This really doesn't paint Mr Crossfield in a very good light. The background is irrelevant. What is relevant is that he chose to use this video to publically belittle a business colleague. I'm not sure what the business relationship is here, but if I was Rory I'd be terminating it. While I'm sure it generates interest in Your Golf Travel golfing locations, the risk that you might end up meeting Crossfield at one of them, probably negates any benefit.
