this easter egg was in CTE but was not in the main game until last couple years or so when it was activated in the main game theres 5 lights you can activate it from. everyone is just familiar with that location . if the tree is broke theres other options only need to be struck by lightning once, you will no longer need to get struck by lightning to activate it again you do not actually need to stand on the windmill, you can hover over it to get struck. or even stay in a heli on top of it the storm starts at 400 tickets. you can use almost any gun to shoot the light. do not need to use a sniper rifle i have done the shark several hundred times and helped others many times. 5 locations: tree at outside small island near D, shooting at light near inside small island (the tree and light you shot at) tree at inside small island near D, shooting at light in front of broken carrier E flag tree on US team island, shooting at light near island off of A flag tree on D flag, shooting at light near CN/RU team island tree on small island between B and C flags, shooting at light near US team island
It took me almost 10 years to do the peacekeeper Easter egg cause I didn't have the time or resources. But once I've finally did it, it was easy to do (almost). The only downside was that my fingers couldn't stop twitching cause I was typing the Morse code fast

I like to think that the friendly enemy boat dropped the light as he was moving away from you that you have to shoot at 8:24 because he knew what you were trying to do :D (even though you obviously can't do that)

The community went on a massive hunt for this easter egg but it was never found. Several clues would be hidden on Dragon's Teeth maps about Paracel Storm and the jaws of a shark. Around that time people had already discovered the Megalodon on Nansha Strike but since these hints show Paracel Storm, it is believed that this map also holds another Megalodon. The easter egg would not be uncovered until people were looking around in BF4's CTE. Sometime around 2017 a Megalodon was finally found in the game's CTE version of Paracel. However, this event would never make it into the retail version. It remained disabled until 2020 when a update to the game secretly added the Megalodon to the map, with two changes being that you no longer need one of the Phantom Program items and it now rewards you with the developer exclusive black DICE soldier camo
i remember trying this years ago and i got so close after experiencing the exact same problems but when i finally got to the tree enemies would just destroy it and then it was impossible to finish so i gave up but i was so close

I did this in 2021 and had a similar experience full of asshat killers. The trick is do it with friends, simply spawn on their heli and pop down till you land.

It was re enabled a year or two ago.
