But they play more paramore, but always end on blackparade
American cons with attached hotels being considered normal is so weird for us Europeans. Doing 1h of transportation to get to a con each day is normal for me in France and Germany
Canadian here, calgaryian to be exact. Not a single convention here has an attached hotel. Heck our big anime convention used to be at a university, with all the hotels a full train station away ... like it's not walkable at all.
same here in London! there are UK cons held in hotels but they tend to be much smaller and more exclusive, and even when there are hotels right be the venue they are ridiculously expensive
Same! There's a con that gets done at my local library, so that's a thirty minute bus ride from home, but then the big cons are both a train ride away. The one has an electric train that gets me there in half an hour and the convention center is literally across the street from the train station, the other is still a diesel train that gets me to where I need to go in 45 minutes and after that is a fifteen minute walk to the school that hosts the con. (Yes schools host cons here, it's not weird.)
I've grown to love the "public transport ride of shame" to and from conventions. On the train with half of a cosplay together with people on their way to work is amazing.
Actually, on our way back from Dokomi I saw clearly-dokomi-cosplay people for hundreds of kilometers across europe for three days travelling until after the convention. It's wild.
TELLEMENT
I was the Cruella cosplayer! You are so sweet and the Supercon competition was an absolutely amazing experience. I've been asked to judge my first cosplay contest in November, so I'm excited to see some of the behind the scenes!
Congrats again! It was an absolute joy to see that cosplay up close, and thats so awesome! Double congrats, you're gonna have so much fun!
Your cosplay was truly inspired.
What’s your IG? Wanted to see more pics of your cosplay
Holy crap how have I never thought of bringing a rice cooker to a con?? That’s a stroke of genius!
Its the best! Cause you can also just boil water in it, which is how we made the coffee i had in that whine glass lol
I think one of my friends does that along with a gridle.
Ahhhh thank you for the shoutout!!!! Those mitered corners were the bane of my existence and I’m so happy you loved them. It was an honor to be a part of this competition and to have you judge my Lumine cosplay!!!!
I didnt do the little funny awards for this one, but if i had youd have gotten "Best Bias Tape"
I really think anime cons really need to take a page from the furry con I go to. It has an attached hotel sure but it normally sells out in like 10 minutes and it has con booking space in like 10 other hotels. And the cool part? Because its in the middle of summer in big heavy fursuits, they have a shuttle service that is on a constant round trip of picking up people and dropping them at the con. Like three separate lines that are color coded for certain hotel blocks, so you are not giving people heat stroke in the summer walking to and from the convention center.
And especially with venues like this that do no have attached hotels and are in the middle of summer in the southern usa, a provided by the con shuttle service for cosplayers would be a godsend.
Ohhh that makes so much sense! That's such a good idea!
My bff was at Disney last week and said it was miserably hot, and we live in SC so we live in humid +90°F weather most of the summer, but Florida is something else...
Now I'm just imaging a bus driver who has no idea whats going on and why he's driving these multicolored animals around the city, but he's too afraid to ask.
SESSHOMARU HERE!! Was a completely honor being there and showing my love for this art! Thanks you so much for being part of my first contest experience here in the us! All the love! And hope to see you soon 😎✨❤️🤞🏻
I would almost want to go to the con for the sole purpose of learning how to thread a sewing machine correctly. The frickin’ bane of my existence…
Honestly you just gotta fake it till you make it with threading those machines…. I feel your suffering
Maybe I'm confused, but I thought you just draped the thread in front of the needle and run it down and back up and the thread catches? Did my mom teach me secret info? I haven't used a sewing machine in years, so perhaps my memory is wrong...
@@Just1Nora It's all fun and games until you have to thread it yourself and something goes wrong lol
Some sewing machines have numbers and little visuals to follow on the machine. It really helps a lot!
The bane for me for a longtime was threading my bobbin correctly lol.
AHHH IM SO GLAD THE ALICE COSPLAY WON!!! I’m so excited to wear my Alice to Dragoncon and it was really really cool to see another Alice cosplayer 😁Everyone’s cosplays looked absolutely stunning. Congratulations to everyone who won and I’m so proud of everyone who had the courage to compete💕
I just finished an Alice cosplay and this is like the 2nd time I've seen one on stage and I get so EXCITED every time, because I didn't think she was popular anymore. -flail-
I think I've seen someone else mention it before, but in Europe we don't have attached hotels at all, and some cosplayers don't even buy tickets for some conventions and just stay outside in the attached parks or gardens all day! It's definitely a thing to get used to, if you're used to being inside a building all day. I'd love to attend a US con someday, just to see how different of an experience it really is having to not go outside at all!
Miami's longitude is on par with middle of Egypt/Libya/Algeria, and Georgia isn't much better- you could probably get away with camping in the upper US (Paris, France latitude) but it's a very humid heat down here which just hits different :/
same with PH
ah yes, the hour long subway train ride in full cosplay in the middle of july just to be able to get to Japan Expo (France) all the while praying you dont end up on those « weird people spotted in the parisian subway » accounts 😭 id love to go to a con with a hotel attached, it seems so fun !!
I feel you! First time going to MCM London I had to get 1. A near 2 hour train ride into London King's Cross from my tiny rural town, then the tube and the lizzy line was down so it would normally take ~ half an hour, took a whole hour, in a full bowsette cosplay with wig, crown and shell (no tail unfortunately though ill probably make one when I repaint my bowser shell) through all of London. Those in the states have no idea how lucky they are lol
@@TerrestriellieThe train to and from MCM is sooo weird but I love that as soon as you’re on the Elizabeth line it’s just… cosplayers. In October I went to St James’ Park in full cosplay (Aziraphale) and past Buckingham Palace to get back to the train and IT WAS FULL OF TOURISTS AND NO WHERE NEAR THE CON so so awkward. Tomorrow is my first time getting the train alone in cosplay💀
Tbr i think just showing people hiw to thread a machine is kinda magic. I went from useing a 1970 brother to a modern sewing machine and useing a top loading bobbin blew my lid clean back! It was so easy! I hated puttjng the bobbin in my old machine 😢
Its funny you say that because we had one person come to the booth who had an older sewing machine and they were like very confused by how this one was thread, it was very cute!
I have to say, I really like the fact the judge's awards were given as a "best of (vocation)" award. I think, as a cosplayer who has competed, the sound of that feels a lot better than just a judge's award! it would make me feel like I really excel in whatever style my cosplay was made in. And I have to say, thank you for this video. Tomorrow I am going into my first craftsmanship contest in 5 years. I have never won a cosplay award before, and I'm hoping tomorrow that changes. I worked really hard on my build book but ended up being extremely self conscious about my cosplay since it looks very "simple", despite the fact that I have carefully hand drafted the entire cosplay and didn't use any trim or bias tape I didn't make myself. I was feeling like my cosplay wouldn't be able to measure to others who have access to more space and tools than I do since it's just my sewing machine, serger, and iron (I lack any embroidery or cricut machine). It was really affirming to hear someone recognize sewing skill in the way you did. I feel a lot better about going into judging tomorrow! Thank you so much.
It’s so cool to see that cosplays that may look “simple” to an untrained eye (like the Alice one; btw one of my favourite games ever) can still hide so much craftsmanship and can stand together with those costumes that look way more detailed an elaborated (like the skeleton one). As an amateur, I’d think those more detailed and intricate ones would automatically score higher, but it just shows that a lot of work that goes into cosplay goes unnoticed. As I’m slowly learning to do my own cosplays (starting with wig styling for now), I also learn to appreciate all of the work that gets overlooked a lot, and Sarah really helps me learn so much about the craftsmanship, skill and knowledge of this wonderful hobby 😊❤
P. S.: EMO RAVE!?!? THAT SOUNDS AMAZING, IM SO JEALOUS XD
That thumbnail of Tulin just sitting down at a diner is amazing 😂
Yipiie new Sarah Spaceman video to rewatch 40 times while doing crafts over the next year or so!!!!
I’m so glad I’m not the only person who does this
I do this too!! 🤣
I feel the pain of no attached hotel... because NYCC doesn't have one and it's always an adventure to get there not only in one piece, but emotionally okay. I dressed as Psylocke one year and I've never gotten more unwanted comments on my butt than I did walking to the con. But also, I wore Katniss Everdeen's wedding dress the last time I went and EVERYONE kept congratulating me while I walked. Um Thank you? It's always nice to have a hotel attached... that's why C2E2 will always be my favorite!
Exactly! Especially what you said about being "emotionally okay" Theres only so many side eyes and stares, or worse rude comments, you can take before you even get to the con :(
Yes!! My friends and I wear a Heathers (the musical) cosplay to NYCC each year and it’s always soooo uncomfortable walking to the convention center in short skirts 😭
Nothing like going to your subs page and seeing that your favorite cosplayer released a new video literally 4 seconds ago
You will never know the joy of remote hotel until you travel by public transport wearing a cosplay.
I can't think of any Australian conventions that take place in a hotel. The days of catching public transport and walking down a very busy street at night in my Amulet Spade cosplay still haunts me
Me and my friends went to our first con back in March (Orlando Megacon anyone?) and I remember some of the looks we got living our hotel at 6am and getting Mcdonalds drive thru breakfast in our cosplays. Then at the end when we left the con my friend had a spare set of clothes so he can change out, so I ended up eating at a Cracker Barrel dressed as Childe from Genshin until we got back. I stood out like a sore thumb...
This is the London MCM experience LOL. Sitting on those trains in Honey Senpai was truly an experience.
Your videos are the reason I sow again! Im only 14 soon 15, and your vids got me back into my hobby! You have a great talent and ur absolutely amazing at explaining the small details❤️ i absolutely adore your humor, so thank you for making content❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Good for you! Learning how to sew from a young age will serve you very well in life
So funny hearing you talk about hotels not being attached and long walks in the heat! Here in the southwest, that's the case for all of our cons - when we compete, we just hope the whole cosplay doesn't melt off our body before our performance. 😂
Thank you sooo much for sharing some aspects you look at as a cosplay judge! I’m entering my first competition in November and I’m really nervous :’)
17:29 I ABSOLUTLY FREAKKED WHEN I RECOGNIZED THE XIE LIAN COSPLAY. IT'S SO WELL DONE AND PRETTY. I LVOE IT. i may just be slightly bias though XD
i got so distracted at the start by the backing track to jort storm playing in my ears. i had t o do a double take and pause to make sure i wasn't crazy. your booth looked so cute! sometimes simple is all you need! and the sewing machine idea was really awesome too.
Same like I started to hear the lyrics when I recognized the song and started singing Jort storm
Not having an attached hotel is such a blow to people who have to navigate chronic illness or mobility issues. I hope the con moves to a better location some day because of that among other reasons. Its also A LOT to ask cosplayers with elaborate or large costumes to navigate unfamiliar public transportation, especially in packed busses where there is not space for your floor to head wings etc.
JJJJORTS! THE JORT STORM’S COMIN’
I'm going to be going to my first con this May. Making Sophie from Howl's moving castle, it'll be the first costume I ever sew and I'm so excited!!
I dont know if youll see this but i just wanted to say thank you sarah, you inspire me so much and i love watching your videos while i work on my cosplays!
In the middle of rewatching a ton of videos while crunching my Ariel cosplay for Fan Expo and now I have another to add to the list!
The Xie lian cosplay was so beautiful ❤️!!
It’s my dream to have a con attached to an hotel. French cosplayer here and it’s always so hard to find a place to sleep when i plan to go to a con 😭
This was such a cool video! I’m not really into wearing costumes much myself but I find it all so fascinating. It’s been so cool to see content about all these different aspects of the hobby and to see so many different conventions. I deeply admire your talent. Thanks so much for sharing!
I love your cosplay videos! You’ve inspired me to make my own cosplay and I enjoy watching your videos!
I’m going to be performing (singing) at an upcoming convention 2&3 September, super nervous but hoping for the best! Thanks for the new video, I’m sure it’ll be great :)
Best of luck! ❤
@@Just1Nora thank you!
This makes me miss cons... I was at my first big convention this summer and it was amazing (and exhausting)! I actually didn't know attached hotels were a thing... maybe it's an US-thing? I totally get that excitement when people love your cosplay, take photos or chat with you like with Tulin! It's my favourite thing at a convention, especially if it's from a rare character or fandom
I went to this con so long ago. Its been twelve long years since Ive cosplayed. Your channel has seriously made me want to get back into it.
this is hella late 💀 but i just realized i was front row for that contest and saw you!! i started ranting about how cool u are to my dad and we both ended up fangirling the rest of our little lunch break 😂
Honestly, love the hotel con dinner. I've taken it a step farther and brought a crock pot to do a slow cooker pork topping instead of the tuna, but the tuna seems way easier and more packing friendly. Love it.
As a fellow southerner that is melting in this record high heat, I am SOOOOO thankful for the fact that the New Orleans Fan Expo is in January. I have had hot glued piece melt off a prop before in the southern heat!
ahh im so glad you liked my miku art!!!! I'm so happy i got to meet you there and honored to show up in one of these videos its REALLY SURREAL LOL 🤯
Thats so much again! Its gorgeous and I need to get it a frame!
One of my favorite Tennessee cons is held in an expo center that does farm events as well, hence no attached hotel. So the question of cosplay always goes to either, Which cosplay can I drive in and which one can I change into in a parking lot.
Watching your videos inspired me to make my own cosplays! I’m currently making one of my favourite character from a book series I really like :D
Such a great video. I loved judging with you, I learned so much. Thank you so much
Loved judging with you too!
cons with attached hotels are a wild concept to me as an English cosplayer, I distinctly remember travelling through central London on public transport while in a full Xiangling cosplay and carrying a huge suitcase, a jellyfish umbrella, and a bag of wigs 😭
I love rewatching your con vids, so I was so happy I saw this come up in my notifications!!!!
YOU USED THE JORT STORM THEME DURING PEOPLE SHOWING OFF THERE COSPLAYS OMG LOLLLLL
I’ve cosplayed at the exact convention center and boy howdy it was a pain in the butt. Walking around in a Bomb Devil cosplay in the humid Florida weather was an experience.
Honestly your channel has inspired me to start cosplaying. I’m working on a clone outfit so I hope to join a comp soon. Great video!
I love your videos go much! They fill me with so much joy! Thanks for blessing us with this post.
17:00 Yooo a sesshoumaru and a sango in such a small lineup?! Lets gooooo!
AWWWW MY STICKER MADE IT INTO THE VIDEO T_T
i'm so glad i was able to meet you and give it to you!!
Thanks again for the sticker! I have it on my wall right now because I cannot decide what to put it on haha!
I was trying to download a pattern from you and I screamed when I saw something about snow miku. I love 2023 snow miku, I can't wait to see you next video. Also I love you videos :D
I LOVE you're work! The miku was amazing🎉 😊
#MakeEveryConHaveAnEmoRave2023
I haven't been to a convention since 2019, and I've been getting my enthusiasm for cons and cosplay from your con videos, and I can't wait to go to a con again. I'm making tentative plans to go to Holiday Matsuri with my best friend!
Thank you for these vlogs, I love watching them and I love the way you present them. Can't wait to see more!
I love your cosplay and con videos!
I know the music at the beginning is just a royalty free track, but I can’t help but think of Jort Storm lol.
watching sarah while doing crafts is better than tacos (thats a lot)
I love your videos!!! That look so much fun! It's so cool that you got to judge!
I hope one of these years you can come down to WA. We got some really nice smaller conversations down here like SummerCon!!
Knowing the community like that is how it is in my reenactment group.
This last weekend that was a blessing and a bit of a curse for me
I went to SuperCon once maybe like 6 years ago and it was fun but I wasn't interested enough to go back. It will be so nice to have that connecting hotel!
I love watching your videos while I sew!!
New subscriber here! I live in a state where we basically only have one big con a year, plus cons and cosplaying in general are hard on my body because of a chronic pain disorder, so watching your con vlogs is pure serotonin for me. I get to experience cons that I never would've otherwise. So thank you for posting them!!
P. S., you also inspire me so much to push my cosplays to the next level. Thank you for being you!
I'm so proud of how far you've come
I can't begin to imagine how hot you must've been in Tulin in Florida in August, but you still looked incredible! I'm not sure if anyone really cares, but I want to mention how last week I stayed at the Gaylord Marriot in Maryland. I wanted to go just because I know that it's where Katsucon is held in February and I thought it would be cool to see the holy Katsucon gazebo while there wasn't a crowd of 100 cosplayers and tripods swarming the area. The entire time all I could think about while walking around the hotel was that Sarah Spaceman was once there! I was at a place where my favorite cosplayer and biggest inspiration had stayed, and it meant a lot to me to be there and go, "That's where Sarah took her Sakizo photos! And thats where Sarah interviewed that one cosplayer about their cosplay!". I annoyed my Mom to bits with all of the yapping and rambling about Katsucon, but it was so amazing to be there. Thank you for everything you do, Sarah. I hope you had an incredible time at Supercon!
I’m used to not having a hotel attached a con. Fan Expo Denver is at the Denver Convention Center and there is no attached hotel with horrible parking.
I've always wanted to go to a con and your feeding my need to go to a one!
at 17:46 ⟟ relized that the music ⟟s the same as what Charlie Slimecicle used for jort storm and ⟟ started dying
Everytime i watch a Sarah Spaceman video, I wait for her cat. I like Sarah too.
wowwww!!! all of those were beautiful!! loved the xie lian and eda cosplays!!
US con centers having hotels sounds so convenient but meanwhile in the philippines most con centers are attached to malls so you end up seeing makima chainsaw man falling in line at jollibee behind childe tartaglia ajax and darth vader
I love being able to attend all these cons vicariously :)
love this so much you have such an amazing cosplay especially if you know how long they took and tht you made them by yourself again love this so much and wish you absolute best
WOO NEW VIDEO! I just wanted to say, thank you for all this amazing content, and for inspiring me to cosplay more! My mom bought a sewing machine for me yesterday, and even though I’m only in middle school, I’m so excited to learn! Hopefully by the time I’m an adult I’ll be as amazing as you!
the jort storm inst at the beginning is everything 💖
Wanna be a birb in FL at a con? Come to Megaplex! It was my first furcon and is very welcoming!
oh my god i cant believe i went to supercon on friday and didnt get to say hello to you!!! :( me and my friends literally walked by your booth a thousand times and i didnt recognize you T_T im glad you had fun despite the heat and the humidity!!!
It was interesting when I went to the cons in the USA to be in a hotel room attached to the convention. NEVER has that been a thing at the Aussie cons.
It looked like you had a BLAST judging the champs ^_^ so fabulous!
I almost said in the outro "kirilee is probably watching this going BUT AUSTRAILIA"
i love your con vlogs so much! i live through them haha
Our cosplay queen back again with another video❤️❤️❤️
I SWEAR EVERY VIDEO YOU POST IS SO ENTERTAINING ILY
The Cons in the U.S are huge and fancy. If walking was such a deal , the Con here in Sweden must have been such a shock for you. So primitive compared to what you’re used to. 🤣😂
The weather in Sweden was beautiful, The weather in Miami was the problem, not the walking.
It was so great meeting you! My sister and I came by your booth on Friday, we were the 21k subscribers! (and we completely forgot to take a photo lol, so star-struck but next con!) Your sticker is proudly displayed on our Brother machine giving all the good sewing vibes. It's been so awesome seeing your journey and it was literally a dream to meet you! You've been such an inspiration since I stumbled on your channel and you continue to be. Also, I'm in the video??! Saw myself in cosplay at the big audience shot which was crazy. But anyways, thanks for being awesome and hopefully we can get a photo next time lmao
I needed this motivation boost to work on my hell-wig😊
I would love a video about how you use Illustrator w patterns ect
Finish work and then I will watch this tysm Sarah!!
Lol everyone threading the sewing machine reminds me of my high school fashion design class. My teacher made us practice threading the machine for like a day or 2 before we were allowed to do anything else.
I love that the background music in the beginning is what Slimecicle used for Jort Storm
2022 Supercon was my first ever con, and I was actually able to go again this year and had a good time. Wish I got the chance to see Sarah spaceman but that’s on me for never checking the people who will be at booths for cons 😂.
I’m usually at that con… so sad I missed you!!! Yeah, welcome to Florida… It is best to just Uber it. Hope you come back!!!! Hoping they move it back to Fort Lauderdale as they NOW have a hotel!
meeting sarah spaceman at a con is always a dream of mine especially since she basically started me into cosplay at a young age and now i know tons of different things about tons of different crafting things ( and i now own a sewing machine ) so i hope one day i can go to a con where she’ll be or she’ll come to fanexpo philly :D
OMG ALICE COSPLAY!! Such a fantastic movie
The Jetpack Guy cosplayer trying to thread the sewing machine was amazing.
So I have been binging on your old videos since yesterday. And this popped up in perfect timing for the end of the winning in your, (please don’t be insulted by the inability to remember that cosplay name) green hair with a giant fork at holiday matsuri in Orlando.
thanks for reminding me to finish my seams for when i eventually try to compete someday
I wish that England had cons like this. I feel like our con community is lacking and it has made me struggle to get into cosplay because I don’t think I’d ever wear it if not at a con
Awesome video :D!!
There’s an anime con in NC called Triad Anime con that I went to a couple years ago that didn’t have a hotel but one block down there was one. Really fun
the way i gasped at the crown prince xie lian cosplay!!! ahhhh
I wish I had stopped at ur booth there, it was right at the same time that I started to learn to use a sewing machine I definitely could have asked for some pointers. 😅 Plus ik my miku group would have loved to stop n' say hi to you!
there's one actual place for conventions in my country, and not only theres no hotel, its around 4-5 hours drive from my house, the concept of hotel next to a con sounds like a dream
