Four Wheel Camper Project M installed on a Second Generation (2012) Toyota Tacoma with a 5.05 feet bed (short bed). Demonstrates how to pop the top up and down.
cousin i like the upgrade.... i bet that will allow u guys to take off and hit those hard to reach trails more often.... continued growth & success in all u do.... Stay blessed
I'm looking to get one of these in a shell model only. Those upgrades are crazy expensive. I'll maybe get 1 fan installed. I just need a place to sleep when I go to AZ rockhounding in the winter. Would like to find a used unit, but they haven't been out that long, so may have to wait.
Wow, I like this, great updates & practical for short trips. Can you still pull the trailer & have that extra cabin space to sleep? Thanks for sharing. 👍❤️
our truck was already heavily modified before the camper so its hard to calculate mpg difference for stock tacoma. for our truck, its 16.6 mpg without the camper, 15mpg with it on. I imagine wind drag probably has more impact than weight. it only weighs a little over 300 lbs so you generally don't need suspension upgrades for the project M. If you're interested here are some upgrades on the truck (not because of the Project M): -OME BP51 with heavy leaf pack suspension - 4.88 gear eaton elocker for both differential - C-4 low profile front bumper - smittybuilt x20 winch - 33 inch tires I hope that is helpful
We still love it. ive been meaning to make an update video. the biggest issue we have with the set up is that the tailgate is not airtight or water tight. no matter the rubber gaskets we put, there is still ingress of water when it rains and slight dust on dusty trails. this s less the project M and more the truck itself.
Do you have massive empty space between the camper, the bed rails and the tailgate? In my 2nd gen since the bed rails are curved there's this huge open void where I can see into the camper from the outside.
no space between the side rails and the truck but there is a little space along the tailgate area. these tailgates are not built to be completely airtight. we put some automotive door rubber gasket on it to help seal out dust and it does help. its not so much a project M problem but a truck design problem.
between 17-19mpg. we also have bigger tires and re-geared differentials which affect the gas milage. i know that the camper will affect the wind drag and decrease the mpg. idk by how much on stock trucks.
We did have suspension upgrades. we use the Old Man Emu BP 51 with the heavy leaf pack. HOWEVER, we got the suspension upgrade not for the project M. We got it because we also tow a humvee trailer when overlanding. The project M only weighs 352 lbs.
That totally blows man! I just got lucky i guess. I would bring it back to FWC and have them replace it or at least repair it. Im sure it is still under warranty if you just got it. I hope they figure that out for you soon!! Good luck!

What gas mileage do you get with the camper on the truck?
between 17-19mpg. we also have bigger tires and re-geared differentials which affect the gas milage. i know that the camper will affect the wind drag and decrease the mpg. idk by how much on stock trucks.
Did you do any rear suspension upgrades…..if so what.?
We did have suspension upgrades. we use the Old Man Emu BP 51 with the heavy leaf pack. HOWEVER, we got the suspension upgrade not for the project M. We got it because we also tow a humvee trailer when overlanding. The project M only weighs 352 lbs.
