For the $3000 price tag it almost sounds like they practically quoted to replace the entire furnace unit. Where I live I just helped a friend replace his forced air furnace. The 2 local heating contractors quoted him $4100 and $4450 respectively which I thought was fairly inline with current prices but he decided to replace it himself and he bought a new unit for $2200 and we were able to swap it out over the course of about 3-4 hours.

I had a problem with 3K, not so much with $1,500. You have travel time and I doubt you knew exactly how long it was going to take to fix so you have to factor that in along with all the other expenses that go along with being self employed which have all skyrocketed along with everything else.

I used to do this work back in the 90s commercially and can tell you a residential smoker is nothing compared to a bar or restaurant where smoking was common back in the day. Combine the smoke, tar, grease and food odors all built up in the duct work with mold growing on top of it. Horrible especially some of the taverns that had been around since the 70s.

in Kentucky our HVAC company is called expensive and we would do it for $337-700 , depending on the cost of the blower wheel ...... and like others have said , that wheel was destroyed by something very hard getting sucked into the furnace (probably due to lack of filter) ....dust/dirt isnt gonna dent and destroy a wheel like that

@remodz6385 Sorry to disappoint you. Successfully ran an HVAC company for 30 years. $1500.00 is way to much for a $100 part and 30 minutes labor. Add another hour. Even $200/hour labor
double the part. Do the math. If you pad it by $200 your @ $700.00. Now that I ran the numbers $600 would be fair.

I love your videos, I do. Been watching them for a few years. But $1,500 seems a touch high.
Maybe 30 min drive time to and from customer location = 1 hr.
3 hours to diagnose, troubleshoot, help customer pick new fan, install it.
    That's 4 hours.
    $1,500 ÷ 4 hours = $375. That seems kinda steep to me.

Here in Canada, you not only pay $5,000- as a minimum show up fee to be applied to the work, but also get ribbed about needing an a/c at all. However, in summer, it gets hot here too. 40*C = 104*F. Also, if the client becomes a Karen, make or female, the price automatically doubles every 15 minutes until they stop, which is more than reasonable.

Wow. All that simply for neglecting a filter. Imagine the nightmare that mechanics put up with fixing neglected cars every day. People who didn't keep their lives in order a few years ago are paying stratospheric prices now for nearly everything.

We usually charge cost of part plus $25 (to cover fuel and time) and around $100 for labor. So we would have done that job for around $300 . I have been an HVAC tech for about 20 years now and my employer has been in business for around 40 years. There is absolutely NO REASON to charge $1500 for changing a blower wheel. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Anyone saying ripoff; you don’t charge enough. I’m not in the business of losing money. People can shop around. Or go with the best reputation for a guaranteed fix.
