@@JimsonMakes my late father was a shoe maker, and remember seeing him use a few of the tools you used.
A story comes to mind, when seeing a stool being recovered, in the late 70's or early 80's, one of the Arab families was having a luxury ship built, and he had several bar stools covered in whales foreskin, and took great delight in informing his female guests once they were seated.
Love it! Looks great.
Thank you very much Joy

Great job and inspiration. I did leather work almost 60 years ago while in the Boy Scouts. Loved it! Still have the tools somewhere. This may get me off my butt and look for them! look forward to future leather projects.
Best wishes for the holiday season.

Jim, Very nice job especially if you have never tooled before. I used to teach leather tooling at a Boyscout camp some 50 years ago. As far as swivel knives go, let me suggest a skewed blade it will fit the same handle, but I like to have extra handles so I don't have to switch back & forth. When you go to transfer the pattern, one method is to put a piece of plastic over the wet leather then place a paper pattern over the plastic, then use a ball point pen to trace the pattern. Your stitching instruction was Outstanding. I always love your projects and I have to say, I look forward to hearing your little girls intro. :)
Thank you very much Joe, glad you liked the video and many thanks for the tips. I will certainly get a skewed blade next time.

Merry Christmas Jim. Thanks for all your posts. You have got me back in the seat behind my lath and I have tried to copy most of the turning you have shown and I am just about to experiment with pewter casting with turned projects. I could not have done this without your input and you get a big thank you from me. All the best, Bernard

Barry, Jim could probably find the time, but do you find that much money?
A fascinating process and a beautiful finished item. I am almost thinking of trying it out myself, I have often thought of it and I do some needlepoint and sowing already, so this would go well with my other attempts. I also love woodwork and can see this becoming very useful. You made it look easy but I doubt it is.
Thank you very much John. Give it a try, I find working with natural products very satisfying.
Cheers
Jim
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year😀

@@JimsonMakes Thanks for the reply
This is SO COOL! Great result & wonderful introduction to so many techniques. Really enjoyed it. You mentioned sore fingers... IDK if you've ever tried those paraffin wax bath things for hands that keep the wax melted so one can dip several times to form a warm, soothing waxy glove, but they really help mine when I've done a type of work I'm not accustomed to.
Thank you very much. The wax bath sounds like a great idea.

Hi Jim, I thought you may like to check out the web site of Thomas Ware and Sons in Bristol one of the few traditional heavy leather tanners left in the world, an old friend of mine Barry Knight gives an insight into how they still produce beautiful vegetable tanned leather.
Regards David
Thanks David, I will check it out.

How hard on your hands is it to work with leather?
