Thank you. I am Vietnamese and currently have a job at Outlier. I am concerned about the safety of this job. After watching your video, I felt very happy and received positive insights. Thank you very much for sharing this in your video.
I've been with them for about four months now. While I wouldn't recommend it as a viable source of income it is nice for a little side money. You probably won't be making thousands unless you're very good at what they "want" you to do and putting in 8+ hour days, but a hundred here and there every week is nice. Getting into projects can be difficult and what makes dealing with them super frustrating is when you finally get put on a project that you click with only to be taken off of it a week or two later because the project is no longer available, or they completed what they needed and are moving onto the next phase.
Outlier is legit. It's very dependent on your performance. The reputation you garner through your work moves you further up. Onboarding was a nightmare with little to no communication, took me almost a month, and it takes time to get yourself in and on a consistent project. Training is also loose and rules on projects are constantly changing. If you fail assessments you get booted from the project with little chance to retry the assessments.
My main concern is that it is used for training generative AI's. As freelance illustrator, if you're aware of how generative AI spits on the majority of artist's faces by being trained with our work without any consent or compensation, you know it goes against my principles to train these machines.
I hear you mate ... I'm not a creative such as yourself, I'm actually a scientist. Whilst AI has endless benefits in my field, it's true in that the more it learns the more the current-day employment market changes with some inevitable pain felt. Of course it just compounds the issues for creative people such as you, musicians, writers etc etc .... I'm a little reluctant to "feed the beast", even though the dude in the video seemed quite excited it...
Total BS and waate of time. Pay $7.5/hour in my country while could be 35 somewhere else. It’s way cheaper than my internet bill I’d be happy to do it probably if I didn’t finish elementary school.
Tried desperately to sign up, couldnt get help with an error related to verifying my identity (used my driver's license as an American), repeatedly contacted support for a month and gave up. Suddenly one day i was sent a link to join the platform. I have no idea whats happening...
I recently got selected for our AI training in our native Language writting ..any body can shed light on the nature of job. Some clarity missing. In which area should I equip myself with.

Outlier is an absolute sham. The onboarding process is drawn out, tedious, repetitive, and a complete waste of time. They complicate it more than it needs to be. Don't waste your time with this company and its process. It's certainly not worth the time put into it.
Pay rate is too low for south Americans and there's no constant projects to work on. By the way, from my experience that's just an exhaustive side job you could work if you really need some income
Indeed. The pay rate for Brazilians are too low and the QMs put a lot of pressure on us, with a lot of difficult guidelines to follow in order to have good accuracy rates on projects that last for 1-2-3 days max.
Right, but they will pay me for the same task at $55 an hour. Yes, $55 an hour. However, they are so unorganized that they will penalize you for nothing.
It's absolutely horrendous. 😂 They asked me to apply and I didn't. I looked at the onboarding and it appeared to be completed by school children. Absolutely, laughable!
Don't bother with this. They pay, but just getting accepted is a large time investment, especially when you have to read all instructions. I've only done well enough to get paid once in a year of trying the platform by checking weekly because I don't consistently get the notifications I've signed up to receive.

If you can get into top tier, it is pretty much like IT contractor job pay.
I saw an ad on Facebook needing Portuguese translators for AI training, I didn't see anyone talking about whether they make money or not .
