Thanks for bringing us along and sharing some more stories! Both shrines looked superb; maybe it was the getting lost and seeing the neighboring countryside, but the Kotari Jingu was especially nice! Looking forward to more tales and potentially more trails!
I haven't delved too deep into Japanese culture or history, but their historical architecture is breathtaking. Those grounds with the koi pond must have felt just awe-inspiring to walk through. I'm very interested, now, to learn how old Western culture and ancient Japanese warriors are similar, I'm definitely going to be reading up on that. I'm also very impressed with your Japanese, you speak it very well! Great video, brother. Looks like I have some great content to binge.
@@homesteadgamer1257 Very much appreciated, friend. Yes, the architecture is fantastic. Unfortunately the video doesn't do it justice but at least I can present an approximation to the wider world. As far as the connection between Japanese warriors and frontier western cowboys goes, a quick rundown goes thus: They both lived far from the urban centers of their respective cultures. They both specialized in horseback riding and projectile weaponry. They both valued martial prowess and self reliance. They both had good and bad dealings with an outsider group they considered to be barbarians who lived beyond the frontier of their civilization (the Native Americans for the cowboys and the Emishi for the Japanese). They're both romanticized for their bravery and honor.
@@TalesofDawnandDusk Oh wow, that would make for a great historical fiction story, like two men from way back when living those similar lives so far away.
Thanks for showing us that! Helps to beat the nostalgia from my last year's trip. Side question: maybe I have missed it, but did you create any videos telling a bit of your story? How did you end up in Japan, etc.
Thanks for the comment. I haven't actually talked much about me as it's just never really come up. Maybe someday if I start streaming or there's some other reason to do so I will, but until then I'm gonna stick with the tales and the Classical Japanese explanations.
@TalesofDawnandDusk Sure thing. I have come across the other video when you have mentioned your grandfather and his (now your) hat. Maybe there were other bits. Rationale for the question: Most of youtubers I have come across that live in Japan are teaching English there. Maybe your story (potentially different) could add a bit of a different perspective.
@@Immandil Well, the first time I came to Japan, 10 years ago, was as a missionary for my church. That served as the foundation for my learning Japanese and coming to appreciate the culture and history. After 2 years as a missionary, I went back to the states and studied Japanese in college, but now I'm back here teaching English while expanding my Japanese abilities and checking out places I didn't get to see the first time I was here.
I believe so. I'm not entirely sure as I just kept it after my grandfather passed, but I remember someone who knows his hats look at it one time and tell me it was a Stetson so I'll trust the random guy whose name I can't even remember lol
Love to see the beautiful scenery! More, more, more!

Excellent rhyme. Very much appreciated.
That's a nice hat.

Translate the poems ya dang nerd
Is it a real Stetson?

So it is. Very well kept, though.
