- The Cleveland Guardians are heading back to the playoffs. But, for the first time in the new postseason format, they'll watch the ALWS from the sidelines after they clinched a first-round bye.
However, the jury is still out on whether a bye is universally a good thing. Sure, at face value, getting a few extra days off and being able to line up your pitching is clearly a positive. However, that's not what history says.

Bull mailed his commentary in on Astros starting rotation. Framber, Brown and Kikuchi are 3 of the top 5 pitchers since the trade deadline. Come on. Do a little research.
Until the Astros show some drop-off EVERY team would PREFER NOT to play them and so far they have shown no drop-off.

The tigers are a team of young kids, who have been playing elimination baseball since the beginning of August. Not sure I'd want to play a team that red hot.

Astros have 4 starters with an era under 3 over last 3 months. They have the best hitting team in the AL. IF Verlander makes the roster, he will be a reliever. Think about it.
If you think Cleveland doesn’t want to play the Astros, try asking the Yankees.
Houston didn’t pitch Valdez, Brown or Kikuchi in the Cleveland series. The first two games were important to Cleveland but not to the Astros as they rested key players. These facts alone should be a concern.
Its the Astros. Thats the answer for every team in the playoffs. Why are we acting here? It was the same with the Warriors in the NBA. Everyone was praying Houston or another west team would knock them off.
Nether the Tigers or the Astros would be a good draw but clearly the Astros not only have experience but more importantly have excellent starting pitching and a solid offense with key bullpen arms.
This is an obvious answer. Anyone but the Astros. I'm an Astros fan, but I also have a brain. The Astros have been to 7 straight ALCSs's. The only guys that are still here from the first one are Altuve, Bregman, and Verlander.

Listening to his take on the Astros sounds like he doesn’t watch any team but Cleveland. Would rather face the Astros because they are afraid to lose to a crappy Detroit team. The beat hitting avg team in baseball and top defense. And you mention Jv like that’s all their pitching? He’s literally their worst pitcher atm and out of those guys are pitching at the top of the league. 2 starters are both #2 and #3 in era. Absolutely trash take.

You said it, it was a meaningless game. Not exactly a good barometer for telling anything. It's how teams perform when games mean something that is telling, but even then, one game is a very small sample size that you shouldn't draw too much of a conclusion on.
These guys are generally clueless about other teams in every sport.

Of all the playoff teams, Tigers have the least amount of pressure. Nobody or not many expected them to be there. Mariners are done and the Twins are nearly done. Royals could possibly get swept by the Braves. But the Twins are not sweeping the Orioles.
Astros will beat any of these teams in a 5 game series.

I think the Royals consider the Guardians to be a rival, as they played the Guardians so tough this year. Also I think the Guardians consider the Royals to be a rival. I would not be surprised if they meet in the ALDS.

the guards don't want any smoke from any team this postseason. their record vs above .500 teams is atrocious. they have played poorly against houston (1-4), ny (2-4), kc (5-8) and just ok vs. baltimore (4-3) and detroit (7-6). also in the nl.. they have a losing record vs. atlanta (1-2), la (1-2), milwaukee (0-3), san diego (1-2), arizona (0-3), but are mysterious 5-1 vs the mets and phillies.
