    What does gatekeeping mean?🤔

    • @ForgottenFitness
      @ForgottenFitness  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Gatekeeping involves using fear or some other means to control or limit access to knowledge.
      It’s generally a negative thing, but can be positive in some contexts. Here, it is certainly negative.

    As a 60 year old guy I can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate a young man of 24 extolling the virtues of "old school" training methods. There have always been people (both men and women) who found a way to become much better physical versions of themselves with sound basic knowledge, diet, exercises and equipment (and without PED's). I have an autographed picture from Bruno Sammartino that says "Good health, always free". You don't have to be a rich TH-cam content creator training at a mega gym in Dubai to be a bigger, stronger, faster, better you. Keep up the great work... and "Thank You".

      @@ForgottenFitness You are a teacher and a student of the "Iron Game". So refreshing to see this type of content on TH-cam. I'm so sick of non-locked out sumo deadlifts w/weightlifting straps videos. And I know A LOT of people feel the same way that I do.

    I'm a schoolteacher and got double Master degrees (laurea magistrale here in Italy) in both archaeology and philology. I'm an old school recreational bodybuilder too, despite my scientific approach on human knowledge (I consider myself kinda of a folklorist). I can confirm: in topics like bodybuilding, experience has the upper hand on lab science, just because experiments aren't really possible. Too bad the exchange of experience, in a time last our, is dwarfed. Just my two cents, hope not bored you

    • @ForgottenFitness
      @ForgottenFitness  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s very well said, and I do agree.
      However, in my case I have experienced fear tactics by those who I was just trying to help learn about. It’s an upsetting reality of working in this space.

    Don't let the so called Gatekeepers get you down. Your providing good content. If the owners of some kind of bodybuilding method is trying to Gatekeep their control of some copyright, don't let it get you down. Speaking as a magician that has made a living doing shows, there is always a magician around that will tell me that I am doing it wrong. The funny thing is, they never did a show in their lives. As a guy that has also lifted weights for about 50 years. I meet the same kind of people that think that they are fitness experts. Often they just show what they don't know.

    You did the Charles Atlas people a favor with that video series, it was free traffic to their site, and beyond that there is zero reason for them to worry about people getting the program for free, there are many free websites out there that give the original program away as it is.
    There is very little chance that the Atlas program today is a cash cow, and when people learn about companies behaving like this it makes them less inclined to want to buy anything.

    @Righteous.Indignation0527 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Rudolph those who tell you to remove your videos are the same ones that want to make a quick buck off of people who just want to learn, it’s a real shame in the fitness community, especially in some of the older generation most of the older generation are willing to teach, but there is a very few hand select that do have a lot of knowledge, but you must pay a pretty penny to get that knowledge. I think I know who we’re both talking about the same people that will try to scare you by telling you they will take you to court. It’s a shame, but I think you should keep doing what you’re doing and let those naysayers be your fuel and fire to keep pushing and making content.

  • @LTPottenger

    People don't realize what a grind having a small youtube channel can be, where you do tons of work and basically make zero dollars, then get constant criticism. The good outweigh the bad most of the time, but it is amazing how people will make accounts just to shut down what they don't like and troll in the comments of even other channels. Legally there is a huge latitude for fair use especially when it comes to educational material and review the real limit is just how much yt is willing to go to bat for your rights. If Looper can play 8 minute clips of modern movies with almost nothing added than almost anything falls under fair use. I would probably just tell them to stuff themselves and take it to yt or a lawyer if they want, you can't copyright a list of exercises any more than you can copyright a recipe. If they're too dumb to realize this is good publicity for them then let them waste the time and money.

    • @ForgottenFitness
      @ForgottenFitness  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All true! If I did have the funds, it would very well be worth it to consider hiring a lawyer or team just to back myself up moving forward. Unfortunately, that is not possible at this time. It’s a shame so many individuals try to bully and use fear tactics to try to intimidate many in the old-school bodybuilding space.

    • @LTPottenger
      @LTPottenger ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ForgottenFitness You can also just put up one of the videos, and if they complain to yt then defend it to yt. The worst that happens is you get a strike, but they wear off eventually. I don't see what grounds they have to do so though, it is just a review.

These were real athletes, those of today only grow thanks to monstrous doses of steroids, insulin and use Synthol. Today to give volume to the deficient body parts they use this disgusting system. In the Golden Era there was instead the brilliant mind of Vince Gironda.

      I mean, I guess? That is such a moot point. Why even discuss it on my page? It is ALWAYS more appropriate to create constructive dialog rather than blindly ignoring logical fallacies in an argument, which is what I am experiencing here with the old guard in fitness and with which the entire point of this video is built upon. Politics are destructive and have no place here.

    "Gatekeeping" and the opening talk about feedback chatter on lifting technique (which is just part of posting lifts publicly; you can ignore or sort out the productive comments as you see fit) is too broad a term that distracts from the real issue of specifically copyright bullying (whether technically correct and just shortsighted on their part, or a genuine abuse of the system and legal bullying). A 20th century history based channel encounters this issue somewhat differently from a current-day review channel, which in fitness is what separates channels like this one from more conventional fitness content.
