  • Everyone can use Homesteading Skills to save money. By buying bulk meat on sale and doing the final processing yourself you can save a considerable amount of money. Here we show how we buy turkeys when they are on sale for $0.59 a pound and end up with 6# of Ground Turkey worth $4 a pound.

Great video- truly but I’m with the others- there’s no way I would waste those bones. Having rabbits or not- that would have easily made a few quarts of stock or broth.

Next time you may want to not discard the fat instead put it in with the meat chunks to ground up it helps your turkey not come out so dry same concept as why they include fat when ground beef.

why don't you make broth out of the carcass?

We have, but much prefer to use the rabbit carcasses for bone broth, they are smaller and easier to work with.

I was trying to justify buying a meat grinder and your video has done that for me. Thank you!

Should have kept the carcass for stock...now you've lost money.

We could but, since we also raise rabbits for meat, they are smaller and easier to roast and cook down into broth. We make a lot of the rabbit broth for cooking, so the extra trouble of roasting, and cooking down the turkey bones isn't really necessary. But it is a good idea, if you have the time and space to do as you suggest.

Yes, as a matter of fact that is what I usually do. I roast the bones, and then make the bone broth/stock from it. You should never let anything go to waste if you can help it.
