    Donations
    I am not comfortable adding this to my site or TH-cam channel. I receive many emails and messages asking me how people can help support The Art Gear Guide, mainly I think due to the fact that I purchase all of the supplies myself, except those sent directly from companies kind enough to do so. I have decided to add a donations button to my site, however, I feel the best way to add such a campaign is as follows, all donations made will be used to purchase art products for review, however, all products purchased using donated funds, after they have been reviewed, will be used as giveaways to subscribers of the TH-cam Channel, the web site or any of the above social media platforms. This way I personally will not benefit from financial donations. I have set this channel and site up for my own enjoyment and not profitable gain. I feel with this support method, everyone wins but not in a financial.

    My Own Personal Art
    I would not exactly call myself an artist in the true sense of the word, however I absolutely love art as it has helped me immensely dealing with clinical depression due to my battle with constant chronic pain and disability. Follow the link to check out my own projects bit.ly/2qAa7BN
    Thank You
    Finally, thank you so much for all of your support, without all of you, this channel and The Art Gear Guide would simply not be the same.
    Thank you so much.

    As a colourist (of my precious books lol) who dabbles in all sorts of media, it's lovely to come to a reviewer that takes an honest look at ALL price points of items, so that folks like me can find things that are good, but not a wallet killer hehe. Thank you for all the work you put into these reviews, they are so very helpful

    I’ve been waiting for this review. Thanks Harry! I always enjoy your reviews over others. I recently got into pastels and have been loving the medium. Very tempted to buy these pencils to add to my growing collection.

      If you like pastels you will love these. I have these pastel pencils (and many others) and these are the best and my personal favorite. They feel more "wet" than the Faber-Castell Pitt pastel pencils, but I think it's the perfect softness and blendability. I have tried every other pastel pencil and these just blow the others away.

    Yay you're back! Happy New Year, Harry! Really good message too. Luxury supplies are nice but don't guarantee that your piece will be that much better than what can be made with cheap supplies. I think mid-range supplies have some of the best supplies. Good review too :)

    Thanks once again for a great review. I am trying pastels, and like all art, the mastery of a medium is the difficult part. The joy of learning new methods and materials is so great fun and fulfilling. Please keep the faith my friend, be well and remain positive.

    Happy new year and what a way to start it, my 20 landscape set arrived yesterday and they are awesome, I can’t wait to do a proper drawing with them, when I’m feeling better I will, at present I’m tidying and sorting my dining room out so that everything is exactly ordered in the way I want it, hopefully a tidy environment will lead to a tidy productive and improved art inspired mind lol. Thankyou for doing this review , by the way I like my koh I noor pastel pencils as well and the dozen carbothello ones I have as well, but these were a bit of indulgent luxury which however will be well used this year

    Awesome pencils that I use with Carbothellos that are lightfast along with pastel sticks and believe it or not combined with colored pencils primarily on Pastelmat. 😊 Amazingly Gioconda even though they come in a set only and the barbells aren’t great but they are lightfast and I just use a knife.😊

    And thanks again for the effort and the reviews.

      Thank you so much my friend I didn’t see that, I typed the words Caran D’Ache Pastel Pencils so many times that I got pretty fast at typing it, but I only write in very sort sittings due to my back and then return. I think this was just an occasion of too fast and not double checking. Thank you so much and you are absolutely correct people searching would not find the video. You are a star, thank you.

    Hi Harry, I have just a few of these pencils and agree with your comments re the quality, but Jason Morgan recently reviewed them and found that some wouldn't allow the colour to appear on the paper, just a scratchy mark. Have you noticed any like that because it puts me off paying a lot of money to find some don't work at all?

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Guy I seen Jason’s review and I have to say I have not experienced that with any of the pencils. I will say this though and this applies to pencils as well.
      When you first open a set of pencils or pastel pencils and they have been pre-sharpened I think that the core which is exposed is coated in some sort of protective film.
      If I lift out a pencil and use it as is, occasionally when I use a pencil like this the lay down of the pigment can be a bit hit and miss, but all it needs is to sharpen the pencil a little bit to remove the protective film and everything is good.
      What I will say is and I find this with all of my pastel pencils, Carbothello, Derwent, Faber Castel, Conte and Caran D’Ache; when I use Pastlemat and I have applied a few layers it feels like there is a gritty build up which in turn create a scratchy experience. However when I was given a pack of the Lux Archival paper to review, I have tested so many different pencils on the Lux Archival including CD pastel pencils and I haven’t experienced any scratchy build up or resistance.
      I hope this has helped you out a bit, it is a lot of money to spend regardless, but if you enjoy your pastels I have no doubt that you will love these pencils. If you have any more questions to ask please don’t hesitate.

      The Art Gear Guide Thank you Harry, for the explanation and it is quite comforting to know it is a minor problem and I can now consider buying more of the brand. Will you inform Jason, or shall I!

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll leave that down to you, I never tell people anything about art supplies etc other than my reviews because I don’t want people to think I am some know it all or condescending or anything like that because I run a review channel. I always stress on my videos that my reviews are based on my opinions only and that when I am doing art etc that my way is not the right way it is just a way.
      I know Jason asked if other people had the same experience but I am absolutely sure other pastel artists will have left their findings on his comment section. Jason is way too awesome an artist to be taking advice or anything like that from someone like me 🤣🤣🤣.

    These are the first pastel pencils I bought. My own review: Though the colour quality is fantastic, the pencils are really fat and not comfotrable to hold. They feel really clumsy to use; but good for covering lots of ground! The wood is such bad quality that it cracks and breaks very easily when you sharpen them. I cannot sharpen them at all with a knife for that reason. Great tip about the sanding for sharpening- I bought mine individually so they didn’t come with that. I have real trouble getting them to a fine point for detailed work, and as a realism artist this is fustrating. The pastel seems to also break all the time -_- Thanks so much for the sanding block tip! Will try this.

    Hi Harry,
    I agree with you 100%, health must be at the top of everyone's list of importance. I have sooooooooooo many ailments and been house bound for many many year's... I'd give anything to be able to get out and about. But there's more people a lot worse in health than me so I'm still thankful. Anyway enough of my moaning lol.
    Another brilliant review, these pencils are what dreams are made of... I can still dream eh lol.
    Take care until next time and I look forward to watching your fluffy friend grow up into a handsome & healthy dog 👍😀👍THUMBS UP👍😎👍
    Psssssst. Parchment!, you're not alone with a patchy memory lol.

    Dear Harry,
    Happy new year to you too, I hope your holidays and festivities went good!
    As usual I enjoyed you review very much, I have always been curious towards pastels, and I also would really love to see how does barrels work and try using them myself, but I would be really grateful if you please would be able to review one of the brands that produce them in the future, maybe when you will have time and the possibility to test them!
    As for what concers the first part of the video, for me I can assure you that I have never thought that. I was so involved in watching and listening to your reviews and my focus was on the information you gave, because that is exactly what I looked for when I found your channel: a comprehensive catalogue, detailed and professional and you really are doing it right! Thank you so much, you are really a kind and gentle person
    Greetings,
