I caught one in the Frio River. About an inch in size. Been a little over a year and is now about 6 to 7 inches and terrorizes the tank every now and then. I have a wild caught blue gill that is the same size and was caught at the same time as the chiclid. They have grown together so they fight like siblings
The fish shown look like Herichthys Carpintis which are Rio Hondo Cichlids rather than Texas Cichlids which are Herichthys cyanoguttatus. They look very similar but Carpintis is much more blue iridescent than Texas Cichlids are. Texas Cichlids are almost completely shades of gray with only a very little blue iridescence. They are also more spotted rather than mottled. So, again, pretty sure these are Carpintis which are not found in Texas at all.
I've had my Texas cichlid for 3 months now. Some tank mates include Gourami, Adult Molly's, 2 Adult Angels and have had 0 issues so far.

Just so everyone knows I had a pond loach in my tank and my Texas cichlid killed it. The cichlid was only a couple of inches long at the time
What about jewel chichlid
Helpful, bought one 2 months ago, already mauled my (bigger) ghost knife and green terror 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
