I once played a bard who had a magic mask that allows him to polymorph into any other race and speaks it's language. The mission of our group was to stop the head of the council of matriachs to summon Lolth into the material realm... we failed horribly... but my bard was made to always succeed in skill rolls (I had a minimum of +20 at the time on skills that I do not master), so while Lolth was successfully conquering the world I simply infiltrated their society polymorphed as one of them and live a happy life, lying, cheating, stealing and killing my way to success. Now I realise I unintentionnally became a real drow.
What i find funny about them, is that they have the potential to be a major threat to anybody since they are just that badass. BUT actually going out there and doing all that world conquest and vengance stuff would require an amount of cooperation which goes against their divinly enforced always chaotic stick. In other words they can be as dangerous, though and cunning as they want, they still can`t win because the just can`t stop backstabbing each other for five seconds.
Like octopuses, they could take over the world but they're just not social enough (antisocial because murdering and backstabbing isn't socially acceptable)

I remember this thing about Menzzoberranzan, the main city of the drow, from the legend of Drizzt Do Urden : Sometimes, a house makes a raid against another, in order to gain ranks in the drow system. IF they manage to slain all the NOBLES of the attacked house, nothing happens and they can even absorb the remaining army of the now destroyed house and nobody will bats an eye. HOWEVER, if they leave at least ONE noble alive, then he can complain to the counsil of the city, and then the ENTIRE CITY will march toward the guility house as a parody of judgement, and they will all be executed where they stand.
Oh well.. I once played a drow bard without knowing anything about their history and I actually made him pretty friendly , I saved a child and his family and managed to impress Ioun. Everything was alright until one night I made some questionable decision wich end up into me killing a bunch of guards and animals and almost killing another PC(willingly) just so I can get a tiefling horn for some trading. Oh boy I roleplayed it right.
Fun fact, the reason why I initially uploaded this three hours late is because I accidentally scheduled it to release on Sunday instead of Saturday and I didn't notice until after I finished running my Saturday D&D game.

So, I took the offhand suggestion of playing an Arcfey warlock/Eladrin in either the warlock or elf video. That was actually an amazing suggestion. They've turned out to be the most fun character I've played. Turns out that doubling down on fey dickery and using it properly(read, not obnoxiously) is actually amazing.

Eilistraee is more of the mind that in the world you need to be able to defend yourself and those who can't defend themselves, and that means being good at fighting. It's a means to an end with her, while Tempus views it as the beginning, middle, end and the tree from which the pages of the book were made.
Yeah, Eilistraee wants peace, and 100% believes in compassion and mercy (I mean, redemption is one of her main themes). However, she has (more than a few times in her story) seen the result of centuries of love and sacrifice by her and her people being crushed by senseless violence and power-crazy fuckers, so she acknowledges that the world is a place where violence can be needed to protect what is beautiful and just.
This video learning about the drow inspired me to make a divine soul sorcerer drow blessed by Eilistraee for MAXIMUM good boi edge. He's currently my favorite sorc I've ever made!
In the campaign world I'm currently writing, drow are actually a large minority within moon elf cities due to an alliance made between the moon elves and some drow rebels 1000 years ago. Thanks for reminding me of Elistraee (sorry, I can't spell), she sounds like a goddess that could be worshipped by said drow

I actually left out my character's race on purpose as currently only my DM knows what race I'm playing but I will say this, it's nothing from the base PHB. One of my friends has put in a lot of effort into trying to figure out what my character is so on the off chance he watches this video and sees my comment I don't want him to be like "GOTCHA!" as he would obviously know it's me from my name. He is a ranger, but I've tried to make sure he's not a Drizzt clone.

Well summed-up! Just wanted to add that according to the Sword and Coast Adventuring Guide one can officially play as a Half-Drow under Half-Elf rules. Sunlight Sensitivity goes away, and one can swap Skill Versatility for Keen Senses or Drow Magic.

Krynn doesn't have drow, Oerth is worse than Faerun. Eilistraee doesn't only help good drow, though, she calls to *all* drow, and wants to build a better future for them all. She and her people actively try to bring drow away from Lolth, they do missions in the Underdark for that, and even have a dedicated order of paladins dedicated to that purpose--the Silverhair Knights. a friend of mine once played a drow summoner too drunk to drow, that character has now gone down in legend as one of the best player characters ever in our group, he also died three times all for stupid reasons, the first time he sacrificed himself to save his summoned imps and when he did the imps just flew away and didn't come back after he was revived, good times

Maybe it's the suspense of weather or not they can be trusted at any given time, leaving everyone to always keep one eye on the drow in the party out of paranoia. I have a weird character A kind half-drow her mother was a drider and went to the surface and then meet her father eventually the drow heard and burnt down their house she just survived .but with a horrible burn scar so her quest is to find her family's murderer as she heard the name of the murderer that killed her twin and parents.

I was thinking of making a young drow light cleric who was exiled for obvious reasons. He'll eventually go blind from his constant being forced to cast bright spells and start becoming very bitter towards everything, being forced to use an owl familiar to see anything

Eilistraee is anything but a hippy. Part of her portfolio is swordsmenship as well as music, so a College of Swords Bard would actually be a good choice. Edit: Also, one of her symbols is a longsword through a full noon, sooo yeah.
I recently read realms of the underdark, a book, I recommend reading it if you want to see drow culture(read backstabbing) in action. I am unsure if it is canon though.
Drizzly boi's adventures are all set in the Forgotten realms, the main setting for fifth edition D&D. (Though, my understanding is that he started off in either AD&D or second edition and kept going until now.)
It started just before turn to AD&D 2. What is funny, in his first appearance, in Crystal Shard, Drizzt was intended to be a side character, if I remember it correctly. And it is due to Drizzt novels that drow are usually associated with Forgotten Realms, though they existed before Forgotten Realms and even featured in novels.

I came up with the idea of a Half-Drow Fighter. A bastard child from the Underdark turned bounty hunter who, prior to the start of the potential campaign, was cursed and had his magic affinity sealed, preventing him from learning or even casting certain magics. Basically as a constant reminder the he has Drow blood. Thus, relying on magic items and weapons as a Fighter does anyway. I really just wanted an excuse to play the rule of cool guy who has things and stuff.
I made a drow shadow sorcerer for my best friends home brew campaign that the setting we were set in outlawed magic, I was the first born and my characters father was a higher up officer in the kingdoms military, and I wrote the story of twin sisters(Aella and zeph) which I wrote up before I read that drop twins will fight and kill each other
I started my first ever character for a campaign as a drow. I gave them a story of being born on the surface world though, not in the underdark, so they may face the same prejudice but they have lived a vastly different life than other drow. He also has a huge distaste for Lolth as he sees her as irresponsible and a shirker of her duties to look after her followers properly or lead them in such a way they are strengthen. He sees this as counter to empowering a god/goddess as he knows one thing about gods and that is that they need worship and lots of it. Anyway, that’s not his main antagonist in the campaign I play him in. I had to define his relationship and views on Lolth because he faces another goddess who he feels is just as bad as Lolth, and rivals his distaste for said goddess. This is Auriel, the Frostmaiden. If anything he finds her more irresponsible as she is supposed to be a nature based goddess and feels she should know better that causing eternal winters not only causes her worshipers to perish, and thus be unable to worship her and give her power, but also that she should be well aware the nature needs to move in a balanced cycle. As a Ranger himself he is hyper aware of the cyclical dynamic of nature and how necessary it is to a healthy environment. He’s no Druid but he is connected with it (I had him raised as a ranger by his step father, a half elf ranger himself). So well, I guess my drow isn’t really edgy. Actually I completely removed a lot of his edgy nature. There is still some things he does that might initial be perceived as edgy but I quickly reveal a lot of that is misunderstanding because he has social anxieties. He is a stubborn individual though so he is often at war with himself over wanting to conquer this anxiety. My drow is something of a sweetheart I’ve been told by the party. Sure, he will have sticky fingers occasionally but is careful about what and from whom he takes from. He is conscious of the circumstances basically. He won’t steal from the party. He only does so if the party is in sore need of funds. And he never takes more than needed and only stuff that is unlikely to be missed. He is sneaky but only as the situation is called for. He also uses his really good insight to understand how people perceive him (which is part of what lead to his social anxiety in the first place) and will respond accordingly, sometimes even using their misconceptions about him to his parties advantage. He basically is a very community oriented individual. I built him that way on purpose. I wanted to give him every reason to want to stay within the party. So yeah, I gutted most of the edgy nature that might seem, on paper, inherent in a drow gloomstalker Ranger character. He’s a good egg….if still a bit passive aggressive with Auriel (Frostmaiden). (For context, he leaves fabric flowers as offerings to her but they are all snowdrops, a flower that is marked as spring coming symbolically because it’s one of the first kinds that starts blooming, most often while snow is still on the ground where it’s known to grow.) oh and I should probably mention he is a follower of Eilistraee.
I want to make a Divine Sorcerer Drow. And have her be Good because she Did a Thing one time out of sheer curiosity and Liked It. Because fuck expectation.
Also regarding Drow: Though their women don't flaunt that they learn magic (the way to power is being a close study of Lolth's in the priestesshood, not spellbooks) the Matron Mothers are usually on the lookout for Drow whose innate magic might strengthen their House. Even common Drow can be adopted into the main family, provided they are as powerful, cunning, deceptive, manipulative and faithful as the Matron Mother's own brood. Male Drow who are adopted this way aren't elevated to nobility, but their children are regarded noble.

Meanwhile, I'm over here making my Vhaeraunite Drow PC upsettingly normal with a healthy family dynamic and purposefully created a fake edgy backstory so nobody thinks otherwise of him. His dad gave him the best method of torture for people: pun-based humor (your groans of agony fuel him). His family worship Lolth because they lie about themselves constantly which helped them make alliances with people that thought they're brutal as hell. Also being a normal, happy family made them much more powerful as a household because cooperation and support.
I’m playing a drow bard rn, and the campaign’s in a place where basically the party is about to commit revenge genocide on his hometown, so I’ve been binging drow videos and I’m kinda glad it’s normal for drow to backstab each other constantly because now it’s slightly less awkward to be faced with having to kill my character’s own siblings. It’s still uncomfortable though. Would not recommend playing a drow in a game where drow are a significant force of opposition 3/10
I loved the drow I played. started out like any edgey drow should....glaring at everybody from a dark corner of the taven...only to completely subvert it having my drow bubbily and excitedly wave someone over. only in the dark corner because the hole light sensitivity thing. and not really glaring, squinting because there were too many candles and windows about! I really threw my new PC group that time. they were expecting a edgelord and groaning but NOPE! they got the drow cast out for being way too annoyingly upbeat. and spent the entire campaign confusing the heck out of everybody I met because I apparently forgot how to drow.

Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide mentions them to some degree I believe. In-universe they're quite rare (as you can imagine when drow and humans mostly hate and fear each other). But rare doesn't mean non-existent. Love is blind after all. Can just use the stats for a half-elf if you like; nothing specifies what kind of elf the elf half is of course. SCAG gives a bit more "drow flavor" to a half-drow if you're willing to give up a bit of the half-elf stats.

Well summed-up! Just wanted to add that according to the Sword and Coast Adventuring Guide one can officially play as a Half-Drow under Half-Elf rules. Sunlight Sensitivity goes away, and one can swap Skill Versatility for Keen Senses or Drow Magic.

Krynn doesn't have drow, Oerth is worse than Faerun. Eilistraee doesn't only help good drow, though, she calls to *all* drow, and wants to build a better future for them all. She and her people actively try to bring drow away from Lolth, they do missions in the Underdark for that, and even have a dedicated order of paladins dedicated to that purpose--the Silverhair Knights. a friend of mine once played a drow summoner too drunk to drow, that character has now gone down in legend as one of the best player characters ever in our group, he also died three times all for stupid reasons, the first time he sacrificed himself to save his summoned imps and when he did the imps just flew away and didn't come back after he was revived, good times

The drow have always been my favorite race. I don’t know why though. Maybe it's the suspense of weather or not they can be trusted at any given time, leaving everyone to always keep one eye on the drow in the party out of paranoia. Especially if that one drow in the party happens to be a rouge.

Eilistraee is anything but a hippy. Part of her portfolio is swordsmenship as well as music, so a College of Swords Bard would actually be a good choice.

I recently read realms of the underdark, a book, I recommend reading it if you want to see drow culture(read backstabbing) in action. I am unsure if it is canon though.

Drizzly boi's adventures are all set in the Forgotten realms, the main setting for fifth edition D&D.
(Though, my understanding is that he started off in either AD&D or second edition and kept going until now.)
It started just before turn to AD&D 2. What is funny, in his first appearance, in Crystal Shard, Drizzt was intended to be a side character, if I remember it correctly. And it is due to Drizzt novels that drow are usually associated with Forgotten Realms, though they existed before Forgotten Realms and even featured in novels.

Had an idea for a drow bard that worships Eilsistraee. BUT, he’s still Neutral Evil. Yeah, he’s a drow, but also fuck drow society, “if I’m going to live somewhere where I’m likely to die, I’d rather live on the surface with all the pansies.” So, he’s an adventurer because he wants to be stronger in case other drow or anyone else who doesn’t like him finds him, and because he can’t settle down in surface society.
A good idea would be Vhearuan. He wants to reshape Drow society and most of his followers meet in secret.

I came up with the idea of a Half-Drow Fighter. A bastard child from the Underdark turned bounty hunter who, prior to the start of the potential campaign, was cursed and had his magic affinity sealed, preventing him from learning or even casting certain magics. Basically as a constant reminder the he has Drow blood. Thus, relying on magic items and weapons as a Fighter does anyway. I really just wanted an excuse to play the rule of cool guy who has things and stuff.

I made a drow shadow sorcerer for my best friends home brew campaign that the setting we were set in outlawed magic, I was the first born and my characters father was a higher up officer in the kingdoms military, and I wrote the story of twin sisters(Aella and zeph) which I wrote up before I read that drop twins will fight and kill each other
I started my first ever character for a campaign as a drow. I gave them a story of being born on the surface world though, not in the underdark, so they may face the same prejudice but they have lived a vastly different life than other drow. He also has a huge distaste for Lolth as he sees her as irresponsible and a shirker of her duties to look after her followers properly or lead them in such a way they are strengthen. He sees this as counter to empowering a god/goddess as he knows one thing about gods and that is that they need worship and lots of it. Anyway, that’s not his main antagonist in the campaign I play him in. I had to define his relationship and views on Lolth because he faces another goddess who he feels is just as bad as Lolth, and rivals his distaste for said goddess. This is Auriel, the Frostmaiden. If anything he finds her more irresponsible as she is supposed to be a nature based goddess and feels she should know better that causing eternal winters not only causes her worshipers to perish, and thus be unable to worship her and give her power, but also that she should be well aware the nature needs to move in a balanced cycle. As a Ranger himself he is hyper aware of the cyclical dynamic of nature and how necessary it is to a healthy environment. He’s no Druid but he is connected with it (I had him raised as a ranger by his step father, a half elf ranger himself). So well, I guess my drow isn’t really edgy. Actually I completely removed a lot of his edgy nature. There is still some things he does that might initial be perceived as edgy but I quickly reveal a lot of that is misunderstanding because he has social anxieties. He is a stubborn individual though so he is often at war with himself over wanting to conquer this anxiety. My drow is something of a sweetheart I’ve been told by the party. Sure, he will have sticky fingers occasionally but is careful about what and from whom he takes from. He is conscious of the circumstances basically. He won’t steal from the party. He only does so if the party is in sore need of funds. And he never takes more than needed and only stuff that is unlikely to be missed. He is sneaky but only as the situation is called for. He also uses his really good insight to understand how people perceive him (which is part of what lead to his social anxiety in the first place) and will respond accordingly, sometimes even using their misconceptions about him to his parties advantage. He basically is a very community oriented individual. I built him that way on purpose. I wanted to give him every reason to want to stay within the party. So yeah, I gutted most of the edgy nature that might seem, on paper, inherent in a drow gloomstalker Ranger character. He’s a good egg….if still a bit passive aggressive with Auriel (Frostmaiden). (For context, he leaves fabric flowers as offerings to her but they are all snowdrops, a flower that is marked as spring coming symbolically because it’s one of the first kinds that starts blooming, most often while snow is still on the ground where it’s known to grow.) oh and I should probably mention he is a follower of Eilistraee.
I want to make a Divine Sorcerer Drow. And have her be Good because she Did a Thing one time out of sheer curiosity and Liked It. Because fuck expectation.

Though their women don't flaunt that they learn magic (the way to power is being a close study of Lolth's in the priestesshood, not spellbooks) the Matron Mothers are usually on the lookout for Drow whose innate magic might strengthen their House. Even common Drow can be adopted into the main family, provided they are as powerful, cunning, deceptive, manipulative and faithful as the Matron Mother's own brood. Male Drow who are adopted this way aren't elevated to nobility, but their children are regarded noble.

Meanwhile, I'm over here making my Vhaeraunite Drow PC upsettingly normal with a healthy family dynamic and purposefully created a fake edgy backstory so nobody thinks otherwise of him. His dad gave him the best method of torture for people: pun-based humor (your groans of agony fuel him).
His family worship Lolth because they lie about themselves constantly which helped them make alliances with people that thought they're brutal as hell. Also being a normal, happy family made them much more powerful as a household because cooperation and support.
I’m playing a drow bard rn, and the campaign’s in a place where basically the party is about to commit revenge genocide on his hometown, so I’ve been binging drow videos and I’m kinda glad it’s normal for drow to backstab each other constantly because now it’s slightly less awkward to be faced with having to kill my character’s own siblings. It’s still uncomfortable though. Would not recommend playing a drow in a game where drow are a significant force of opposition 3/10
I loved the drow I played. started out like any edgey drow should....glaring at everybody from a dark corner of the taven...only to completely subvert it having my drow bubbily and excitedly wave someone over. only in the dark corner because the hole light sensitivity thing. and not really glaring, squinting because there were too many candles and windows about! I really threw my new PC group that time. they were expecting a edgelord and groaning but NOPE! they got the drow cast out for being way too annoyingly upbeat. and spent the entire campaign confusing the heck out of everybody I met because I apparently forgot how to drow.

Hey I'm wanting to play a half drow but can't find much info on this subrace of half elf. Does anyone know a good video or site i can go to to find info?
Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide mentions them to some degree I believe. In-universe they're quite rare (as you can imagine when drow and humans mostly hate and fear each other). But rare doesn't mean non-existent. Love is blind after all.
Can just use the stats for a half-elf if you like; nothing specifies what kind of elf the elf half is of course. SCAG gives a bit more "drow flavor" to a half-drow if you're willing to give up a bit of the half-elf stats.
