Wow, the comment is beginning to get likes. Thank you, and I request : please raise your voice against blasphemy / apostasy laws in Pakistan. Us ex-Muslims cannot even announce our lack of belief, let alone engage in any form of debate on Islam. Very few people, like Sam, understand the depth of oppression, and the relentless chokehold on any possibility of conversation that we experience. This is how Islam survives in my country: by smothering debate/discussion. Once again, thank you all, and please value the the gem that is Sam Harris. He’s our Murshid (Urdu/Persian for spiritual teacher/mentor). ❤✊🏾

@@jmc5335The argument is that the conflict has nothing to do with white privilege yet many young people see it through a racial lens, and by invoking lacrosse practice and Starbucks he is pointing out how the kids who are so concerned with white privilege are some of the whitest and most privileged kids on the planet. Obviously you can be white and privileged and care about real white privilege but at this point it’s mostly just cringeworthy, virtue-signaling garbage and especially so when applied to the Israel-Palestine conflict where it clearly doesn’t apply.

Hindus are attacking, burning and desecrating churches. Beating, intimidating, threatening church goers, throwing cow dung and cow urine on them in India.
More than 300 churches were burnt in Manipur state.
Hindu shopkeepers, grocery stores and other services are being told not to supply any goods to any Christian. This cancel and boycott is being implemented across states that have deranged Hindu fanatics of Bajrang dal etc. The silent Hindu majority seems complicit.
If people like you can come up and voice your opinion to gross human right violation in India, it would be good.
It's never the Christians who attack Temples or Mosques of Hindus, Sikhs or Muslims. It's always the Christians being attacked for being Christians.
Hagia Sophia or Chora churches being converted to Mosques or attacks and destruction of churches shamelessly by Hindus in India.
Christian countries never do such things even in Christian dominated areas!
As a Hindu don't only hide behind your opinion about Muslims because Hindus are trying to adopt Islamic Cult ways.

They had to deploy over 2000 police and fight the entire Muslim neighbourhood to get to the terrorists. Right here in this video, Sam Harris spreads disinformation by characterizing college protests as motivated by antisemitism & confusion, no crowds has ever shouted "go back to Poland you Jew". The college protests are merely askng their schools to divest their tuitions from companies supporting the ongoing genocide & Apartheid system, because Divestment was a valuable tool in dismantling South African Apartheid.

I quit donating to my alma mater, Princeton University, around 2015, when an organization known as the Black Justice League, encouraged by a former Dean of Studies in the 1990s turned President of Brown University, pressured the school to remove the name of Woodrow Wilson from every building, dorm, and the School of Public and International Affairs; they also began circulating an anonymous BDS petition among undergraduate students, which is akin to mob tactics.
As for other lofty moral relativists who find excuses for the dregs of humanity, I recall French "sociologist-philosopher" Alain Badiou after 9/11 explaining that the US somehow had it coming, and Noam Chomsky, after the Charlie Hebdo and Kosher supermarket massacres of January 7 to 10, 2015, finding excuses for the culprits due to their social class. More like israel "plows through" civilians and a smaller percentage of Hamas fighters at the same time and they dont care one bit how many civilians get killed. The question is what do you think israel is accomplishing by causing so much destruction in Gaza? Half the people there are under 20 and they all know someone who was killed by the IDF. They all know people who have been maimed. Theyve almost all lost their homes. Almost every hospital, school, mosque, library, business has been destroyed. Theres a lot more people now with nothing to lose and nothing but time on their hand You dont understand israel is just creating more Hamas fighters ?

@@yitzhakspolter9551 its not "victim blaming". Its how the world works. When the way you "fight back" kills tons of civilians, not to mention all the infrastrucure destruction... theres gonna be more people taking up arms for revenge. Obviously, Sam Harris and his ilk dont view muslims as human beings and you couldnt care less about the death of palestinian civilians but how could you possibly think this makes israel safer or you'll "destroy Hamas" this way? Netanyahu's pitch was always "i can protect you" and the worst terror attack in israel happened on his watch. Now try to think rationally for just a moment, why would more of the approach that lead to October 7 somehow make israeli safer? How does this reasoning make any sense? What does "destroying Hamas" look like? Have you not read what even Benny Gantz has said about this idea?

In Berkeley, CA, teachers at a public middle school took their students on several pro-Palestinian walkouts. One of the walkouts of 100 students stopped by the Jewish community pre-school (which accepts children of any faith or background) with bullhorns, stayed there for a while and then returned back to school. Group was accompanied by the teachers and two women in a conservative Muslim attire. One may wonder why demands of the immediate ceasefire has to be aimed at the American preschoolers. The same day, a graffiti was posted on the white board at the same school "such-and-such HATES JEWS. We stand with such-and-such!" . This happened two days AFTER the head of Berkeley Unified School District claimed at congressional hearing that there is no bias in Berkeley schools. Just to remind that middle school age is 11-13. They set down in Uganda, released all of the Non-Jews and Non-Israelis unharmed, called the Israeli authorities and requested money in exchange for the prisoners and treated the prisoners as hostages but ones receiving adequate food and medical care. Israel killed more hostages in their (successful) attempt to recover them from Entebbe airfield than did the PFLP.
What happened on October 7, 2023 looked nothing like that and the way that the barbarity was manifest, the disregard for Israelis' and Non-Israelis' (because let's not forget how many Non-Israelis were also killed and taken hostage) humanity, and the perspective of martyrdom that colored the Hamas/PIJ attack only makes sense in the light of Islam and Islamic beliefs about reality.
Would there be an Israeli-Palestinian Conflict without Islamism/Jihadism? Absolutely. Any ethnic liberation movement is going to cause conflict with those people not from the ethnicity being liberated. Would it look anything like what it looks like today with the vast number of human rights atrocities? No. Palestinians have demonstrated that they can be much more moral than this.

As an Israeli, I can tell you - even I, like many many Israelis, needed the insane barbarism of October 7th, to realize that I need to reevaluate my opinions. I always had these arguments with my dad, and other Israelis, they saying you can't trust Arabs, saying an Arab will always look for an opportunity to take control over you the minute he can, and that until he can do that he will act harmless so that you trust him, saying that Arabs understand only power and that you ALWAYS have to be stronger than them, otherwise you're doomed.
I always thought they were backwards bigots. I thought they were paranoids. That they let the extremists of Muslims define their perception of reality.
After 10/7 I understand that this is not about bigotry. True, there are many Muslims probably who are peaceful people, but there is an embedded arranging principle of violence IN ISLAM itself, like Sam explained, and turns out that's also what my dad was talking about all the time. He was talking about the religion itself. And honestly, you don't need a very extensive research to understand this, I just never bothered to make it. I thought I was all high and mighty.
Yes, cultures CAN be judged. Yes, we don't have to let cultures that are fascist, fundamentalist, oppressive, to use the principles of our liberal values to undermine our democratic societies.
Hamas is not some alien force that took over Gaza's society. They ARE Gaza. 80% of Gazans support the 10/7 barbaric massacre. It's hard for a western to accept the existence of such a society. Tough. Deal with it. Open your eyes. Before it's too late.

One of the most rational, sobering and accurate portrayals of why the conflict in this region has been so intractable. This conflict has never been about the land, otherwise the Arabs would've accepted the partition of the land in 1947. Golda Meir stated this so succinctly in the 70s. Instead of focusing on building a vibrant, democratic state of their own, the Palestinians have, for the past 75 years, been singularly focused on trying to eradicate a state - the state of Israel. Peace in this region will come when there exists an actual partner in Palestine with whom Israel can negotiate peace.

I'm firmly on the left and I am absolutely on Israel's side in this case. Although disappointed and embarrassed regarding the current protests in our institutions, I get it. As a youth I was hit every day with the idea of our government abusing less fortunate countries, constructing a massive veil of lies and using the the regular guy to line the pockets of the established elite. On top of that, I'd feel immense guilt when comparing the lives of those in poorer and more dangerous countries with our lives here in "the greatest country on Earth." The anxiety that comes with these ideas taxed my heart and mind to such an extent that I was eager to accept a narrative that absolved me, personally, from guilt, and blamed a monster in the shadows. And I was naively hooked into false protests very similar to the current situation. I've relieved much of this anxiety by coming to grips with the fact that evil will exist as long as good does. There is no way to distinguish one without the other existing in a juxtaposition. If you want good, you will experience evil, you cannot destroy it completely. I've made peace with the idea that I will never live in a perfect world, but will have various opportunities to improve it with each new day. We DO live in arguably the best country in the world. But the best country in the world still falls depressingly short of our highest ideals. Few situations can be resolved into clear decisions of right and wrong. I strive to keep my eyes and ears open. The narratives in my mind that incessantly seek to identify, categorize and judge, constructing complete stories about the reality I experience distract me from sensing what is actually there. How could I have it all figured out? I didn't, I don't and I never will.
