Tip: Because the lander capsule runs out of RCS very quickly if you keep it on all of the time, I recommend turning the thrust limiter for the capsule RCS all the way down to around 25% because you don't really need the power the RCS gives and it stops the monopropellant from draining so fast so you can safely have RCS on pretty much the whole time.
You would need to remove the reaction wheel on the LEM, the real one didn't have them it uses its docking thrusters and engine gimbal to keep its attitude
The reaction wheel on the LEM is already awful, if you have KSP go in the game and try and point a certain direction without using any propellant, i don't think its possible without using and propellant, even with the engine gimbal since your in a vacuum
Nice work with the LEM descent stage. The Saturn V rocket can be far more complex however, with ullage thrusters and the 1st to 2nd stage interstage ring.
Tip: if you have tweakscale, for the SII you can set a Rockomax brand adapter on the metal texture to just below 5 meters, and then you have the tankbutt for the 4 J-2's

Also, I had major issues with the Launch escape system, it didn’t want to decouple at all from the main part of the ship no matter what I tried.
I was doing well during the mission until i did the mun flyby, basically i use ps4 and i cant switch the lander, ive tried every button suggested and it didn’t work
He sets it in the VAB to vacuum which is what the engine is designed for, the reading is the deltaV if used asl so in flight u will see the number rise to the same as his
I've made a fully functioning Starship without any DLCs/ mods so that'll be a fun challenge as well! And yes, it will be very challenging. The only way I can imagine it is to abuse the hell out of fairing-and fuel tank clipping.
A little late but: 1st - LOVE THE WALKTROUGH! I sat with my game, built, paused, corrected, built more following step by step and it works like a charm! (Pausing was mainly for part names) 2nd - Slight Misnamed part in your video. On the upper stage (connected to the LEM) you said a "decoupler thingy-ma-bobber" on the bottom of the 7200 tank. It's not a decoupler, it's the engine mount. Thankfully, as I was building it along with you, I watched where your mouse went. =) Awesome vid. Great content and a new sub!
Not sure what would be causing that... First I'd check make sure your using the correct decoupler. Then I would have a look at the settings of the decoupler, make sure everything is ticked on. It's hard to know exactly what the problem is without seeing your game, but I'd have a look at those things first
@@Verstats the acapello vessel sucks, its literally missing the 2nd stage and the MEM is missing the ascent stage, i have 500 hours in this masterpiece of a game and never managed to use the acapello without running out of fuel coming back from the munar surface
there are really only a few ways to build a Saturn V in KSP. I’ve been featuring Saturn V’s very similar to this one in videos for months now. And my lander is slightly different. If it makes you feel any better, I haven’t actually watched all of Matt’s Apollo video yet either

I personally just stick a small reaction wheel into the lander. It has fuel cells on the bottom stage anyways, it can easily recharge.

Looks great! Would it be too much of a challenge to make a similar Saturn V but without using parts from the DLC?
I've made a fully functioning Starship without any DLCs/ mods so that'll be a fun challenge as well!

So I don't have the uncouple option for the clamp o tron JR for the abort and action groups.

Right when i watched i realised its a literal copy of matt lowne's saturn V from his apollo program...

btw the Saturn v/apollo capsule didn't have a fairing over the capsule to protect it from the abort motors. It was fully exposed

How do you get the extra Parts?
The LEM capsule, F1 and J2 equivalent engines, panels, 5m fuel tanks, 2.5m and 1.25-0.625 service modules all come from the Making History DLC.
