Radiation spikes will only be prevalent in the strike zones, with fallout dust slowly dispersing it into less lethal doses.. The Sun itself is emitting deadly radiation on you everyday, it’s just that we can shelter from it.

@The Equilibriumist not nessisary, ive been prepping for many years and have many months worth of food and water and preps stockpiled. It depends on how close one is to ground zero as to the dose of radiation you get,I have provisions to deal with fallout but not direct and close radiation dosages. I wouldn't handle being in a bunker for months or even years so I'm happy with what I've got.

There are so many other reasons to have a bunker... social collapse, meteor strikes, volcanic activity/Yellowstone, fires... no power will be a problem... air-filtration would be my primary concern... I can "camp" barebones for a year... eat cold stored food/water... live in the dark most of the time... clean air is the thing I am most concerned about.
So what is a solution to get clean air if an event like he stated happened?

Not only that but you'd have to have an oxygen recycler and a backup. You can't bring air inside the bunker from the outside if the outside air is hella contaminated.
nah, you can just filter the air, most radioactive particles will be in dust pollen and all that stuff floating in there. Active carbon and similar filters would do the job but you'd need o have a good stockpile of them.
What's going to happen is all these elite members of society use to going out all the time are going to go mad/insane.

He forgot nuclear winter . This could be so severe that it could last generations .
Actually it would be the end of most species. Those that did get into a bunker and had the foresight to take seeds with them won’t be able to grow anything with such low light levels and low temperatures for many years. So I predict that most people who retreat into shelters will eventually starve to extinction. But the end would be hastened by drinking contaminated water.

Kinda, still gotta actually survive the explosion itself then the nuclear winter will be crazy due to the ash blocking the sun. Finding a safe space to stay for a long time will be hard because that radiation will stay there for a long time no bunker can survive for that long

Need a mechanical opperated generator to charge your batteries. How many hundreds of gallons of gas will be needed to run a generator for a year?
The average American household uses a little over 10,000 kWh worth of electricity. A 5kW generator burns about 0.75 gallons of gas/hr.
10,000/5 * .75 = 1,500 gallons / year.
@@makokx7063 you are basing your fuel consumption on a 5 kW generator that consumes .75 gallons / hour. But then after your calculations, you give your solution in gallons/year. To figure it correctly, you need to multiply your solution by 24 to figure gallons/day, and then multiply that by 365 to get gallons/ year.
@@alanfan8941 Right, if you were running it at full load. If you notice I said the average household uses 10k kWh a year. So 10,000/365/24 = which comes out to a little more than 1kW / hr, so the 5kW generator is actually more powerful than we need, it was just the first one that popped up.
I found other sites saying to generate 1kW takes about 0.1-0.2 gallons / kW.
Take the middle, 0.15 x 10,000 = 1,500 gallons/year.

In 1970 several friends of mine dropped out of high school because they were convinced that we were all going to die in a nuclear holocaust so there wasn’t any future to prepare for. Yet here we are 53 years later.🤔

Its not the end if your prepared for it. Ur gonna need at least 3 to 6 months of food an clean water to survive as long as your not in the direct blast radius ur good. The fallout is the bigger problem. You can seal your home with plastic an a good ventilation system to filter the fallout worse case scenario since not everyone can afford a high dollar bunker.
Take the biggest room in your home an start a garden inside cause the outdoors is no good for a while. Also your gonna need means of self defense. Learn how to make your own black powder. Its simple. Get some radios an extra batteries an store them in a Faraday cage or bag, because EMP WILL FOLLOW A NUKE BLAST.

It doesn’t matter how much you prepare, you’re going to die. Wether that be from the initial blast or eventually melting from radiation. Your best bet if you’re not in the initial blast zone is to suck start a shotgun. 😂

There are 8766 hours in a year and being ultra conservative with an electric generator burns one gallon per hour so you would need a fuel tank that holds 8766 gallons of fuel so, in reality a family with no more than four people would need at least 12,000 gallons of fuel to survive a year underground.
The fuel storage tank would be almost as large as the bunker itself.
At $5.00 per gallon thats $60,000 for 12,000 gallons of fuel for each year. That's not even including fuel stabilizer agents.

You're very optimistic, aren't you.
Nuclear war gets you 2 things, instant destruction and long lasting radioactive nuclear winter. So you better be prepared to spend a good year or two deep underground and better have a good power source, flowing water can be a good source of power. On a larger scale, geothermal is good but that would be a really large scale bunker.
I always wonder:
How do you expell waste/CO2 from a bunker? Are there dangerous vapors associated with composting your waste?
How do you convert the CO2 you create to Oxygen if you can't have power to grow moss/plants with artificial light.
How do you get water? Won't Ground water be radiated from the radiated water runoff going into the ground?
Is it even possible to test these things safely?
Bunkers will be their tombs. Most owners have zero OPSEC, their bunkers will be found and air intakes will be choked.

You don’t need direct sunlight to charge solar. It just needs to be light out. The sun just helps the voltage be stronger. Colder temperatures also makes for a stronger charge.
