Welcome back to the DIY Designer, this week we are transforming the front of my home to have a darker and more modern farmhouse-style porch. We've made several renovations on the interior to take advantage of the space, (videos linked below) but hadn't made any alterations to the outside since we bought it - until now! I used Canva to play around with the different styles, furniture pieces, and even plants I wanted to use to renovate the exterior of my home. This helped me get a better vision and sense of style before we got to work. I got my beautiful and comfortable furniture from Outer and the handwoven Nicaraguan chairs from Masaya & Co (Discount Codes below!!) I am loving how the porch, the fence, and the front garden turned out. It's definitely an upgrade from what it was before and it increased our curb appeal and the overall style of my house. Orly is seriously my girl/celeb crush! She is so chill and down to earth!! She is all around talented. Truly a natural!! Her fashion diy's are so good!! Then she does like little craft projects you can do with kids, they are awesome, never cheesy or tacky! I used to be obsessed with fashion and now that I'm getting older I really just appreciate timeless looks that are comfortable. I want the same thing for my home. I feel like her home dupes are absolutely amazing and she would/should be the Queen of TH-cam! I would love to see her channel go more in this direction. Although I will say I would watch her just talk about her day. She is so charming and funny! I absolutely adore her and all that she does!

Your contractor woes are super relatable. When we first bought our house, we wanted some flooring done and hired someone through a flooring store. He was licensed but he had all his relatives working for him and they weren't terribly skilled. They left the job unfinished. We'd already paid for the materials, but not the labor. He just kept avoiding our calls, meanwhile our house was ripped apart and one whole floor was unusable. In the end we went to the floor store and they gave us his wife's phone number. We called her (turned out the relatives were hers and she felt bad about the mess they'd made). The original guy turned up the next day and finished the job in one day. From then on, we have been super careful who we hired to work on our home.

Waw! I admit I preferred the style of the "before", but this is a great transformation in this new style :-) I love how the dark wall enhances the bricks, and these chairs, just wow!
Really, the only thing I don't like is the new modern fence but it definitely looks crisp and neat now!

yes! you dont have to do a lot to make a big difference. We love the extended porch (and I'm thrilled we went for it) but we cold have gotten a similar vibe by just wrapping the existing beams in wood veneer and painting it black

So many of us have had the bad contractgor experiemce; unfortunately. I had a HVAC guy just totally back out of things promised, did a sloppy job, and wont return calls to do the warranty work i was promised. I opened a complaint with BBB, but that is a complete waste of time. It has been 2 years, but thank you so much for this info on how to properly follow suit. I am absolutely moving forward with opening a complaint with the dept of licensing.

Gorgeous porch furniture and I'm so glad that you love your makeover. It makes me happy to see you so excited. Alas, I'm not a fan of the new fence , it's all too industrial looking for my taste. I live in the Med and we are a fan of white. White deflects the heat so a black house would be a definite no no in our hot climate. Thanks for the video, it was inspiring nevertheless. ❣❣❣

First I'm so happy I got a chance to get caught up on your videos. I started a new job a few months ago in spray foam installation and I have been so busy! I remember when you first got this house from watching Home and Family and you and Paige did the portable closet from pipes and plywood. I remember thinking your house was so traditional cute but that it wasn't what I pictured as your style!! Lol NOW THIS IS YOUR HOME!! ITS SO GOOD!! I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! Girl I don't even know where to start the colors! the fence! The furniture!! And OMG SHIRLEY KNOWS HER ISSHHHH!!! How lucky to be able to pick her brain for advice!!
