Growing up in the midwest melee scene was great, everyone was so supportive and friendly. I can't recall a bad experience besides this one dude who would look down at people's controllers to tech chase them, which I just found weird.
My favorite thing to do to those people is to put my controller behind my back after a stock and play with my controller behind me for the rest of the game. It tends to throw those people off more than you.
i mean to be fair if you can actually react to both the game and in real life queues that's kinda badass but i can see the lack in competitive integrity there

One of the top seeds was playing me in pools and before our game I sat down and tried to fist bump him. The guy said "hold on" and left me hanging. He 100% saw me. So I stood my ground for like a solid 30 seconds. Eventually I gave up. Then when he was finally ready like 5 minutes later. Ole mini wizzrobe over here tries to fist bump me. I looked at him and said "nah covid... im ready." The confusion on his face was worth it. I swapped from my main to ganon with the goal of up tiliting this try hard fox. And I did. 3 times. The last one was an accident. I said out loud "holy shit that one was an accident." I still lost 2-0 but not gonna lie It felt good BMing this guy who went on to get like 6th or something out of 60 players. But I did learn a valuable lesson there are multiple ways to BM a person and it only feels good if you do it in retaliation.
I find the message at the end of that video amusing because it's just Melee Stats verbalizing his own identity crisis, subconsciously realizing that he needs more to life than *_melee_*
Aye! I'll have you know that I never had a gamecube growing up & picked up melee in my early 20's because it's goated... I mean, I do pine for my childhood and I can't let go of the past but that has nothing to do with melee :p
Its weird how smash players always say people play the older games because of "nostalgia" yet other fighting game communities will actually push you to try out the older games
I love the content but the background music can be a bit of a bummer for me when it clashes with the music in the videos. I’m autistic and it causes some real genuine discomfort to have multiple conflicting songs going on at once, and if I wasn’t such a big coney fan, it might have made me turn off the video.
The Midwest fistbump is a standard for gaming, if u watch a rainbow 6 seige game the players fistbump after every round and unlike smash the least number of rounds in that is 7 rounds of 5 or 6 mins
Autopilot is good when you have the fundamentals of neutral down. It just so happens that in a game like smash, that's how most people approach optimal strategy 80% of my matches, I win because people rote themselves into punishable situations. Because they have no attention for subtlety, it makes their playstyle easy to exploit So in the end you think that you've got dominant strategy down, but really it's all habit. I think that's the difference in playing the game and simply trying your hand. The former is a scenario where you are aware of the BS, but you're also self aware enough to break from patterns that would trip you up if you let it
All I hear when I hear melee players complain about jiggs is pure copium. Brawl has to deal with meta knight, smash 4 has to deal with bayonetta, ultimate has to deal with like 20 characters that can kill you at 50 off of a single interaction. Shut up.

Honestly smash is important to me but the melee community trying to keep itself in evo has always bugged me only because no other series tries to keep an old game relevant this long. This was a super informative and entertaining video tho
Also I definitely think the majority of my salt towards melee is the fact they have a pantheon calling like 10 guys literal gods. These guys crowns are up for bid if switch drops GameCube emulator mstuff which is unlikely

Melee is better than brawl change my mind. Melee never had to have a another version to make it BETTER than a game before it. Brawl players have no skill in order to play the game. There is no hitstun so that means no combos. Which means no skill. All you had to do in brawl is pick op custom moves or spam villager sapling trip. Brawl was an inferior game to melee. Change my mind.
