This was THE SET I wanted from the series! Every time my parents took me to the store I would look for it, but no one ever had it. Then one day, I got surprised with the Royal Fighter and Wolf Combat Lair two pack and got to stay up late building it!
It's good to see you back! Although I never owned it myself, I always thought this set had an impressive silhouette. I kinda like the exposed Technic, at least in this set. I think it adds a raw mechanical look to it. On another note, I had forgotten just how much lore there was about the weapons in Chima, so I'm really happy to have been given this refresher. Referring to the Brickset designer notes was a really nice touch. A lot of these designers don't get enough credit for the clever work they do.
I always interpreted the "thousand years of peace" (btw the exact number of years between the great illumination and wave/season 1 varies greatly from source to source) as just being without actual armed conflict, though not without arguments and rivarly between the royal families.
These questions are very interesting! Well, the technological advances in the 3rd wave were because of the Phoenixes who gave the main tribes their technology. Interestingly enough, the Ice Hunters were perfectly able to use modern Chi even if their machines were made for older Chi, meaning that the technology didn't change much from before the Illumination to after. I assume it's a tendency of the species who evolve with Chi to reach the same conclusions with their technology, because the newly evolved Crawlers made Speedorz and machines without outside help. Their technology also reflects that a bit of the Phoenixes.... Chi was very much made by the Phoenixes to change animals into anthropomorphic beings; even the flying animals grew a third pair of limbs, like the Phoenixes have.... I doubt that this intense convergence wasn't intentional. It definitely is.
This even extends to the serpentine depending on how you look at the sets. I prefer those sets being closer to Chima vehicles. All will be discussed when we hit season 2 in talks about the crawlers.
Seeing how chima is one of the 16 realms, I guess now 1 the realm of ninjago. I feel it's best to always take anything that may contain hidden lore into consideration. Tommy Andreasen alluded to these connections. Now it's seeing how the writers weave with the plot threads.
@@PaleozoicBricks I hope my comment doesn't sound repetitive- but I believe that the 16 realms undermines the lore of Chima and contradicts its lore. Chima is best by itself, so I choose to ignore the existence of the Merge or anything related to the realms. 😅
You’re telling me Longtooth is the Lion Tribe’s Kup? Well then. Who’d’ve thought these minor characters would be so interesting… Suppose Chima was designed with the post-LEGO Movie design philosophy, I guarantee you the Lions would’ve had more quadruped mechs and more filled-out versions of the vehicles they already had in 2013. I don’t mind the exposed Technic bits and bobs, but I don’t like them either. Maybe there’d be some more tiles and panels covering them up.
I think it’s faulty to say that technological advancements can only be made under the pressure of conflict. In the lore (website lore I didn’t watch much of the show) they were animals, then found the chi and made a civilization. By the time conflict came they had culture, language, art, and enough technology to start the conflict in the first place. The evolution of vehicles over the themes lifetime, to me would mean less that conflict advances technology, and more that it focuses energy on advancing war technology. I think that during the conflict the other parts of their culture like their art would suffer, or at least have less resources to advance than they would have had they not needed to build more war machines. Pretty much advancements are going to happen either way, and conflict just focuses those advancements on things that can be used in said conflict. Great review though, I love Chima
I wanted to wait on responding to this comment to really let it simmer in my brain. This is just how I think, But I feel the earliest civilizations were birthed out of a form of conflict. That conflict being the need to survive. Its Man Vs nature. This resulted in humanity leaning agriculture and settling down. I think all technology comes out of some form of conflict. It may not be war, but a pure need of something. Overall, My interpretation of the legends of Chima is that there were multiple conflicts over the 1000 years. To me at least its and explanation of why they have laser guns so fast if this was their first war? Plus if there was no conflicts ever why would weapons like swords be crafted? I just cant wrap my head around it for 1000 years. I view the website rendition and merely legends, shaped and molded, by the weathering they go though on their travels through the river of time. Details now lost to time as the story always changing for the benefit of the story teller.
My least favourite one. It just looks too stretched out for what it is. In other themes you had that too, but here too much of the budget was clearly allocated to make the head look great while the rest looks skeletal.
"Longtooth" is such a great name for an older lion character. 😆
Awesome video!
WHOMST HAS SUMMONED ME FROM MY 10.000 YEAR SLUMBER. Oh it's Paleozoic Bricks posting a new video, time to watch it.
I remember getting crawley’s claw ripper for Xmas when I was younger
This theme is criminally underrated
Great vid!!!
It finally continues! 😄
This is what we needed!
I love this series so much, glad that it's still going
I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD! Awesome video! I always wanted that set as a kid

A poignant and reflective tangent about the nature of war and technological progress was certainly not what I expected from my daily Lego content

Awesome music selection for this video, keep up the good work!

That's cool, I just found this set out back at the used lego store I work at. Such a fun set, and the lion head is amazing for the time.
the Lion faction was always one of my least favourites, but this is probably their best vehicle imo. the face shaping is pretty good
LETS GOOOOO I LOVE THIS SET
Great video! I hope to make Chima MOCs in the future for TFLOC!
LET’S GOOOOO

A fun video focused on one of my faforites themes, plus an all too real joke 13:28 😁
I watched Macross in like march or so, next thing I knew a video for Chima hadn't come out since February.

I have this, i got it from Legoland
I like this set, but it truly reminds me a lot of the Mobile Defense Tank from Exo Force and I think that tank was way better.
What was that song used when you brought up comparasion to defense tank later on? It seems to be from Macross
Dog Fight SDF Macross. All songs are listed a the end of the videos in chronological order.
@@PaleozoicBricks I knew I recognize it from Macross
2nd best (or at least my 2nd favorite) after Gaogaigar
@@PaleozoicBricks i love GaoGaiGar!!!
is there a link to that interview on the tracks? I'm really curious!
It's not really an interview but the notes on brickset from the designer. I'll update the description
