This was one of the few matches on the card worth watching. The crowd booed the hell out of Punk and he eat it up and feed on it. Something most in AEW can never do. Punk is one of the few talents that can switch from Babyface to heel all depending on the crowd. I'm not as familiar with Kojima but they worked well together. It did suck to see the elbow drop to Punk's balls but it happens. Punk pulling out Hogan's moves also just to piss off the crowd is so good. The only problem with this match is it's part of the Owen tournament and of course, we had no question of who as winning it.

In addition to Takeshita, there's someone called Master Wato who I think could have "it" if he's improving at the rate I think he should be since I last saw him on his first card back from excursion before I stopped watching NJPW.

I would have to say though, surprisingly I didnt see much trampoline stuff from the Japanese wrestlers in this PPV. It was the Kennies, bucks and the other AEW clowns who were mostly going at it. So in a way I felt that even the Japanese wrestlers were better than their AEW counterparts! Basically AEW is just a spotfest.

The MJF match then this one right after really made me get into Forbidden door. I definitely watched more of this show than last year, and was happy with what I watched! The Okada thing was a complete freak accident. That guy is cursed at Forbidden Door. Two years in a row that somebody gets injured in the Okada match despite Okada being one of the best wrestlers on the planet with a very clean record.
Yeah signs in this match you're gonna see a punk heel turn probably soon. Punk is smart enough he's not gonna go along with the split crowd stuff he's gonna eventually lean into these boos more and more and work off it and put the wheels in motion for the heel turn
This was a super fun match. Even if there was no story leading into it because it's a tournament match on a crossover show, both Punk and Kojima worked it great, they both looked like big stars, and even though it was obvious who was going to win, it was a really enjoyable ride getting there. I also audibly cheered when Punk did the lines in the corner referencing that old ROH shoot meme.

this was one of the more interesting matches to me just to see Punk and how he would handle Kojima. for me at least, Kojima was never an "off the charts" level worker the way Kobashi, Kawada or Misawa during their height, but he was decent for NJPW heavies. honestly, he probably wrestled more American style than Japanese style and had more personality (along with Tenzan). the ceiling in terms of the overall quality and credibility Kojima could have vs a Kobashi, Kawada, etc. in '97 move for move weren't even close. But he did work for the bigger promotion and was more visible so he established himself as a top guy. that said, a match like this to me establishes why he's one of the smartest wrestlers in the business. just knowing how to play to the crowd and turn heel on a dime without much effort and fiddling with their emotions is what people should be studying. and Kojima does have a bit of a personality in the ring so i think someone like him works better than some of the other NJPW they sent.

This was a super fun match. Even if there was no story leading into it because it's a tournament match on a crossover show, both Punk and Kojima worked it great, they both looked like big stars, and even though it was obvious who was going to win, it was a really enjoyable ride getting there. I also audibly cheered when Punk did the lines in the corner referencing that old ROH shoot meme.
Now I want punk to be harvey dent in the batman 2

this was one of the more interesting matches to me just to see Punk and how he would handle Kojima. for me at least, Kojima was never an "off the charts" level worker the way Kobashi, Kawada or Misawa during their height, but he was decent for NJPW heavies. honestly, he probably wrestled more American style than Japanese style and had more personality (along with Tenzan). the ceiling in terms of the overall quality and credibility Kojima could have vs a Kobashi, Kawada, etc. in '97 move for move weren't even close. But he did work for the bigger promotion and was more visible so he established himself as a top guy.
that said, a match like this to me establishes why he's one of the smartest wrestlers in the business. just knowing how to play to the crowd and turn heel on a dime without much effort and fiddling with their emotions is what people should be studying. and Kojima does have a bit of a personality in the ring so i think someone like him works better than some of the other NJPW they sent.
