The thing about many channels on TH-cam, even though we never meet, we come to think of those like yourself as friends. Because of that many of us, I'm sure, see the events like this as akin to an injury in the family. Take care of yourself Keith. At our age any injury can take longer than we expect to sort itself out.
I really like your home style personality. You come across so naturally with warmth and ease. It's like having Mr. Roger in an adult metal shop. Now, if only PBS would pick you up. All the best with healing.
Thank you very much for the detailed update, you didn't have to do that but we appreciate it! Glad that it all turned out alright and nothing to lose sleep over.
Tnx for the update Keith, very sorry to hear of your accident. Listen to the doctor. Don't push the recovery. You were right in saying that as we age, we have to be a tad more careful. Get back to work when you can, we all can wait for a proper recovery. Good luck!
Sure wish rapid recovery and can see your concern for the people who view your videos. Thank you for your investment in the machining community. Cheers
Yay for 4-H, and for small town connections! And good for you for taking the time needed to heal. I'm with you: sitting around makes me crazy. But sometimes it's the thing to do. I follow folks on TH-cam who release videos only every few MONTHS. We can wait a week or two.
Good to see you behind the camera after that. Looking forward to seeing you back at work when you’re feeling like it’s time. Take care Keith and prayers going up. Thanks for the update!
Get better soon, Keith. It’s a good reminder for everyone to stay active, exercise, and eat well. To be strong, clean arteries, good balance, firing up the fast twitch muscles.
I live here in Virginia in a small rural town, I have a police scanner, and nearly every day there is a rescue call over someone falling. we ALL need to be careful in our surroundings. heal quickly Mr. Rucker.
First aid kits are great for those of us that regularly (unintentionally) cut/puncture/burn/etc ourselves. Unfortunately, it's really hard to use them when we hurt one of our hands, which is usually the case.
Glad you’re doing better Keith. Who’da thought, with all the sharp and fast spinning tools that a fella has in his shop …. that it would be his yard that jumps up and bite him!!! A lesson to all of us to be careful everywhere. Thank you and take care.
I’m glad to hear you’re relatively OK. The last 15 minutes or so on the video is dead air. This would be a good time to do a Shop tour video. Get well. Look forward to your next video.
Glad you're doing better! I've had a couple of those things that sneak up on you when you least expect it too! Many years ago I was helping a neighbor change the clutch in his pickup. Long story short I was underneath putting the freshly machined flywheel on and it slipped, pinning my left hand to the trans crossmember. It also severed the middle finger extensor tendon right on top of the knuckle! Orthopedic surgeon put the tendon back together with a carbon-fiber suture. It took me almost a year to get 99% use of that hand again! About a year ago I took a fall in the house coming upstairs from my pantry to the kitchen with a can of soup! I slipped and fell, landing on the can and ripping my left forearm on top right below the elbow! Wound up getting three dozen stitches that time (estimated, we lost count)! Be careful!
Hi Keith, Fishing works with one hand. Hope you get some Catfish to put in the skillet. Please take your time to get healed up, you deserve the time off. Thank you for videos that help people. HAGD Alan
Glad you're okay. I'm 76 and recovering from shoulder surgery. I sympathize with you. It's extremely difficult to stay out of my shop! I love your videos and I know you'll be back at it as soon as you can!
I'm glad your injury is not worse. Take care of yourself or you won't be able to return to what you love doing! I injured my left fingers doing tree work from a ladder last fall and fortunately my injury was not serious so I know how you feel.
Prayer request are good when needed Keith. And prayers for comfort and healing for you and the folks you mentioned. Just take care of yourself and don't get back to work till you can.
Glad you are feeling better and it wasnt worse that it was. I am finding the older I get the worse falling does to me. Falls arent good. Take care and stay well.
Great news to hear your injuries are “relatively” minor. I’m just a bit older than you and understand completely (experience) how sometimes “things” just happen to us. Take care and may you have a speedy recovery!
Only giving this one a "THUMBS-UP" is because you're going to heal up in time . Be careful in the future, Keith - yard work is hazardous to your health! Glad you're going to pull through.
Glad to see that it is not that bad. I hope you take care of you self and your hand. It sounds like you have what is sometimes called a 'green stalk' fracture. This is where the bone bends to a point where par of the bone splits lengthwise and on the outside of the bend radius the bone actually cracks to the split. The reason I know about this is that I have had the same thing happen to me but on the opposite hand. It will take some time to fully heal from my personal experience. The first two weeks will be the most important as the bone works to reset itself. Also, don't be surprised if you notice that the bone seems slightly bent after it has fully healed.
All the best for a quick, safe recovery. it's very fortunate that you have finished the "monster cane mill" project, as there was some weighty elements to that job and that hand wouldn't have helped (or rather it wouldn't have helped that hand). Take it easy From Oz in the middle of England.
Keith, you need to machine an Iron Claw. Not real sure where I got that, but is like a bionic arm. Then you could hold pieces as you weld, grind or cut them. Speed and Performance would go through the roof. Just don't tell your commanding officer (Spousal Unit). Thanks for the update. Do take a trip, nothing you can really do in a car.
Glad you’re doing so well. Bone(s) staying aligned is a critical factor in healing with minimal intervention. Right up there with taking it easy (ha!).
Glad you're on the mend. A little humor about my brother: he hurt his index finger and went to the local doc-n-a-box to get it looked after. A stitch or two fixed the problem. The nurse asked him how much sympathy did he want. He said "What do you mean?" She said she could put a band-aid on it or really wrap it up big time. He said he wanted a lot of sympathy so she wrapped it up so that it was twice as big as the finger. He milked it for all it was worth. Take care.
You are lucky you broke it, I fell in my barn 17 August 2024. I didn't break anything and didn't tear the rotator cuff. I did damage a lot of the muscle in the upper arm. I still can't use it for any real work without a lot of pain. I have Muscler Dystrophy so the muscles are slow to heal or won't heal. I wish I had just broke a bone, I would be back in the shop/barn full time, now I can just do the basics with my wife's help. Good luck on your full recovery.
Glad it wasn't any worse, take care of yourself and take it easy, have a restful week.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Keith.
Take care Keith. We'll be here for you when you are ready.
