Thanks for making this, I feel like most people don’t appreciate just how long “great” painting takes and it’s not for everyone. Painting in the time you have available and are comfortable spending is good enough :)
"How often did you watch that montage in the beginning?" "Yes". Your videos get better and better - you are literally the only one who makes videos about mini painting entertaining as a comedy show while at the same time really pushing the knowledge transfer. Thanks bro, great work! (if you ever want to coop, hit me up, i have some ideas!)
I feel like, especially with miniature painting, the 80/20 rule applies very well. Thus, you can get 80% of the work done in 20% of the time. The last 20% of the work will take 80% of the time. It is one of the arguments against perfectionism. Especially since a perfect result typically isn't reached, not in the least because what is perfect is in the eye of the beholder. I really liked the video. I think a few touch-ups on the 30min version would have made it very nice as well. And I think for most people that would be more than good enough :)
That 30 hour model is amazing. It's a work of art. Even the 30 minute model looks great, regardless of how quickly you painted it. Also, this video was really well presented and edited. Your content just keeps getting better and better. Thanks for sharing!!
I've just started my KDM journey and am trying to push myself on the minis to improve, videos like this are helping me make some real progress, thank you! Now to search your back catalogue of content for NMM...
@zumikito! You are making videos more often!❤ If I learn something in this video is: hope is never lost. If this world can have more Zumikito, everything is possible!🎉

im doing a large commision of Kingdoms death models right now. love these models. and i have spent some time on each of them. However only on the ones i like.
Thanks for painting these KD Minis, your videos got me into Kingdom Death! Already picked up Libra to paint, eBay’d everything out of stock, and will be picking up the full board game in February! (Though in the meantime, reeeealy need to practice painting skin, thankfully Chaos Space Marine Cultists are mostly exposed and plenty in number…)
The 30 min look so good i would love to have 60 of that one instead of 1 of the 30h one. This really show that a 30h long paiting session does not add that much more past 30 min
Great video. Key takeaway for me is to feel comfortable with painting minis with a particular purpose for them in mind. If it is for a game night, keep it in a speedpaint ballpark if it is for display, invest much more time, however if you need some extra time to finish allow yourself to take it. If after 30 minutes you are not happy with the result go another 30 to tie all up into a nice gaming piece. Personally, 95% what I paint is for games, and key characters are painted usually under 4 hours. I wish I was able to do it even faster but it is a skill issue on my end. All I want is to deliver best gaming experience to my players, however time in a week is limited so I will have to push for some additional time savings in the future.
If you choose to go back to this model, I would be interested in a follow-up video showing what the final results look like, comparisons of the mini now and when you think it's complete, and how much extra time the extra effort took. Regarding, thank you for the details you shared with us.
The fast painted figure imo has more initial ‘punch’ 🥊 in the context of standing out within other figures it’s good. Obviously the painting is brilliant on the other. ❤
Tento kanal a podcast som objavil len nedavno a bol prekvapeny ze vobec existuje kanal z cz o figurkach. Väčšinou sledujem kdejakych Španielov 😄. Velmi kvalitne spravene videjka 👍. A ten uvod bol podarený. 😜
What I found for myself, is that contrast/xpress/speedpaint skin tones are very good when painting base layers for something small like faces or hands on standard 32mm minis. Bigger volumes of exposed skin, when painting with contrasts is... meh, more time spend on correcting the result. But using diluded contrasts as a wash or a filter on top of proper acrylic layer - totally different story =) Also, it all may be because I am really bad at painting skin and not feeling all that confident doing so. Guess I need to buy meself a bunch of minis of... skyclad lasses, and practice more and more.
I have one question: When brightening up the skin for the contrast method, what was your decision making process like? How did you know which paint to use to brighten it back up? For example, if I were to use Guilliman Flesh contrast on a mini, which paint should I be using to highlight it? Thanks.
I hope that airbrush at the beginning was only used for priming :D I have one and when I was doing a bigger commission last year or maybe a year before - I've got tendinitis in my hand :D I still use it some time for enamels and what not but my wife got me a Harder and steenbeck for accurate work, and last year a .5 badger patriot for big pieces :D I really hope you also have a better one than that :D
Spending a lot of time doesn't make your minis that much better that the time you spent. But, to be fair, I don't really paint to be efficient, I paint because I love to. If I'm finished with some project I will find another one anyway, so, in the long run, it might be more "efficient" to actually take my time to enjoy what I do.
So painting is like programming... The first 90% of the work takes the first 90% of the time, the other 10% of the work takes the other 90% of the time :P On a more serious not though, I think the touchups on the 30 minute version really did a lot of heavy lifting. Still I'd go with a bit more than the 30 minutes, maybe a few hours. The 30 hours one looks gorgeus, I wish I had that kind of hobby time to learn and do that consistently.
I love this process :D But I have a question. Have you ever tried bigger minis? I tend to make minis for clients that prefer minis in the "statue" scale. The one I am working on is 18cm and an other one is almost 30. I find that several methods for mini - mini painting do not really translate well. Especially ambient lights, highlighting the mini, etc. I find that in several cases the figures are "big enough" that I might "not" really have to paint all the highlights as I would for a 32mm scaled one. I'd like to see your take on a big mini and how long it takes :D For me I think about 50h, maybe upwards of 80h is the top I am willing to invest and that is really not enough to do as much details as in here. By the way, I will be painting a Lord of plagues in the holiday season based on your work - so I am really looking forward to that :)
Over 10 years ago I talked to someone who painted a figure, the figure looked beautiful and the person told me that he paints from light color to dark color, do you have any idea how to paint it? I can't find tutorials on how to approach it. In those days they didn't use contrast type paints.
That music video montage was a thing of beauty. Well done. Be honest, you spent way more time editing that part than on the whilole rest of the video. Syncing to music is labour intensive, but totally worth it.
I have an editor since May of this year, otherwise I couldn't manage to do everything, but I can assure you, that it didn't take him nearly as long as the rest haha
Thanks for making this, I feel like most people don’t appreciate just how long “great” painting takes and it’s not for everyone. Painting in the time you have available and are comfortable spending is good enough :)

Ah yes, the cultured mini company
Your 30 mins work looks just amazing! Ofc the 30h is of another dimension, but spending just 30 mins and having that good of a mini... just wow!
I feel like, especially with miniature painting, the 80/20 rule applies very well. Thus, you can get 80% of the work done in 20% of the time. The last 20% of the work will take 80% of the time. jajajaj Loved the song and the dance... I will see the video again just for that.
I love that you showed how many attempts it takes to get fine details placed like the Eye reflection.

Awesome. I love how the skintones turned out, especially the contrast between the left shoulder and the legs. Great job!

Small touch ups on speedpaints make a lot of a difference. The 30 minutes version looks far better than I thought.
Fantastic job, your colour selection is on point for this one. Also, Lucy is best girl!

The 30 hour models face is out standing
Oh, wow! I thought I was the only one who started his painting sessions with a rap video montage!
Seriously, though. That was hilarious.
“But hey this is my model, you can’t stop me!”
I shouted after realizing I put the legs on backwards on my Titan 😅
This is the mini I would pick to spend 30 hours looking at too.
The start killed me😂
Good display of the 80/20 rule tbh, 20% of the time goes into 80% of the model, 80% of the time goes into the remaining 20% refining it.
crazy model to use

You should enter it in a painting competition and then cry when it doesn't win.
Your 30 min mini look better than my 30h ones 🤣
"i'm only 28 and..." hold up! wait a minute...
It is all about what you want, not what others expect from you.

So Zumikito, the time for the most important question has come, edging or rimming, what's your favorite?
Lol game theory reference nice
I really love this series but I just can't keep them on my shelf.
Yes
Hi Zumikito.
Why do you put paper towel on top of your wetpallette sponge?
I just realized from this video that they don't put in a ton of time in their gaming miniatures. Here I am putting in a ton of time on mine lol
Graphics low vs Graphics high! So splendid video. Ur like!
Now do it again in the reverse order to see how intimate knowledge of the model impacts your approach and results! ^^
What color did you dye Lucy's hair?

I cant even basecoat in 30 minutes 😭

If you're going for speed why not add a fast drying medium to the paint ?
why is there no song linked D:
