Tremors vs. Tremors | The Royal Society

This event is part of the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2024.
More than 10 million people worldwide live with Parkinson’s. It typically presents with movement problems such as slowness and tremor, however most symptoms people experience are hidden from view such as problems with mood, sleep and other automatic bodily functions. Each individual is affected by the condition differently, both in terms of symptoms experienced and how these change over time, meaning treatments must be tailored to each person.
“Tremors vs. Tremors” is the first music album containing tremor data, designed to better communicate the individual nature of Parkinson's, to help provide relief for people with the condition. The series of bespoke songs − written and composed for Steph, John, Kuhan, Clare, and Prakash − is based on the personal narratives and musical preferences of five people with Parkinson’s, with their tremor embedded into the song's core and lyrics inspired by their life stories.
Dr Christian Lambert and Charlotte Dore at UCL’s Department of Imaging Neuroscience will share their journey of transforming Parkinson’s tremors into music and exploring the condition’s intersection with music, mood, and movement.
The talk will be followed by a screening of a short documentary about the project and a listening session of the five songs.
The Royal Society is a Fellowship of many of the world's most eminent scientists and is the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence.
