I live at altitude and hydrating definitely helps, so does liquid chlorophyll. You can usually find it under different brand names, but any herb store or health food store at altitude will carry it. You can also get it online. It helps your body utilize the oxygen more efficiently. Just a thought.
Don’t know if it’s true, but when I was hiking up to 14,000 ft in Nepal, all the local Nepali people who lived in the mountains told me to keep eating garlic to prevent altitude sickness. So I kept nibbling it while I walked up for 7 days and never got sick. I did see others get altitude sickness and have to be flown down. Take that as you will - but I believe it and, fyi, I’m not a hiker in general and never even planned to go that high.
Bummer, I was going to suggest on your last video you come up to Big Bear. But I don’t know how delayed your videos are. We live up here, wanted to buy you a coffee at Copper Q. I’m so sorry about the altitude sickness. I’m guessing you’re correct about being dehydrated. Glad you’re feeling better.
Hey Thanks. Yes, I’m running a pretty long delay on the video uploads. I really enjoy the area, I was hoping to stay up there for a while. Appreciate your offer. With any luck, I’ll be back.
This is why if I decide to cross over out of the protection of coastal during the middle of the Summer, I do the driving at night. Don't want to breakdown in the heat. Closer than Flagstaff, Prescott offers some coolness. Running Springs is super cute, tried to buy a shack up there but got bid out.
Go WEst on Highway 46 out of BAkersfield and back to the central coast area. Beautiful and very good weather. Too hot to travel the desert, too much rain in AZ and too many fires north and east in Ca.
I hate altitude sickness. I started getting it the last five or six years when I'd go to Colorado. Let alone in the mountains. No matter how hydrated I tried to be before going there. My sister planned to take me to Glenwood springs one year and I was so sick I could barely focus. My mom, niece and nephew went too. I was in the backseat with the teenagers as we drove there. My niece kept offering me stuff and I declined. Finally I ate one potato chip she offered and felt better! So I ate more. I grabbed Gatorade at a service station and it really helped. I wasn't perfect, but my day wasn't ruined. There's a good explanation behind it, I found out online. But I'm not gonna get too long winded. So increase the sodium and electrolytes with your fluids. Take care.
While traveling through Wyoming, I combated altitude sickness by taking Iron, Vit C, Zinc, and kept hydrated. No headaches or nose bleeds. Take care of yourself 😊👍☕
Been studying altitude sickness for an upcoming trip. Here’s a few notes I have made. Hopefully other people have more. Hydrate today for tomorrow. If urine is not almost clear, you are probably dehydrated. Electrolytes matter. Get acclimated slowly take a few days to get to your destination if possible. Over hydrate for altitude.
The heat is horrid I tried to make it to Texas but holey cow it was freakin hot ... made it to El Centro and turned back to Cali ...just to hot to go onward for me . Blessings to U .

Glad you're feeling better. Yes, maybe you were weakened by the heat. Please share your research with us! It's getting tough to figure out where to go, with all the extreme weather conditions, heat, fires, storms (not to mention, the virus). Scientists say these conditions will only intensify, and more rapidly as climate tipping points are reached. I had intended to spend the summer in OR and WA to see some places I haven't been, and for reasonable temps and to avoid fires. However, heat and fires were there, so never went, though considering heading there for a couple of months now. Not sure. There may not be many next times for some of the places we would like to see... We really have to try to enjoy life on our planet in the here and now while we.can despite the various obstacles we may be experiencing.....

Some say that effect is counteracted by the dehydration after coffee consumption. But studies done at Everest base camp tend to discount that. Elite athletes are learning special breathing techniques to increase their tolerance for higher blood CO2 levels -- and the body compensates for this by maintaining higher O2 levels as well. We tend to think of CO2 as a waste gas and nothing more, but it is clearly a very important metabolic signal, which we can learn to control. Do we have to employ a specialist trainer to get there? Nope -- just learn to breath through the nose (deviated septum and all) at all times, and the slower pace and extra work required will call the diaphragm (the right equipment for the task) into service. Then, do this while exercising, and then while exercising hard. This isn't that difficult to pursue, and the improvement in breathing function is worth much more than just avoiding altitude sickness!
