I took a couple years of electrical class in high school and have wired up a few 4 way circuits and just needed a reminder on how to do it. Your video definitely helped👍🏼.
You the only one who provides this method of wiring, i really love it, everyone else is copy and paste. Thank you for this video, i wish you explained more with open junction box. ❤❤❤
OMG!! This was AMAZING!! I had to redo mine and previous owner had a four way the “kill” switch and was driving me crazy. I also changed out the 3 way switches and this video helped me understand exactly what was what. Best help/explanation I found in several days of searching!!
Dude, THANK YOU! We re did our basement and they changed all the switches downstairs, but not the one at the basement entrance. It’s been killing me. I found this and have been going over it. I am going to change the switch upstairs soon. Thank you!
A little more detail on the drawing my brother, such as where the wires are connected. Color markers do help a whole lot. thank you for thanking the time to make this video.
Great video. It refreshed my memory with 4-way switches. Wired plenty of 3-way switches. And I happened to be using the exact same switches in your video.
Very informative thank you. I plan on adding this to my living room so i can switch my lights on an off from my main enterence hallway and garage. It;s so convienient.😎
I have watched tons on 4 way switch videos and this one is very helpful to my situation! Thank you for posting this type of wiring of a 4 way switch system. Many other videos I have seen only describe systems not including the hot/ wire from the breaker box and the wire going to lights, in the same box outlet. Great job On a side note, do you marrette the white wire/neutral from lights to the nuteral from the power supply/breaker box in the first light switch box?
Yeah, pretty sure it’s code to have neutrals in switches now, right? By bringing power into the first three way switch, travelers to a 4 way, travelers to another three way and then switch leg up to the device at the end of the line.
@TheExcellentLaborer Your videos are so helpful! They've been helping me a lot with wiring my friend's Mango Shack here in Hawaii. Wondering what the wiring would be with the same series of switches and light, except with a ceiling fan/light in the middle of duplex 3 ways/ 4way switches....any one in the comment sections have this one figured out please help!
Hello I’m new subscriber I greatly appreciate so much your educational videos which I do learn something new every time. I would like to see a video of how to install a switch from an existing switch and then connects from a new switch to a light Please, look forward to hearing from you
Hi, so to find out which of the 2 three way switches is the first that powers the light, can i disconnect all wires from all 3 switches and then reconnect the wires to one of the 2 three way switches to see which one will power the light, and that would be the first three way switch? Thanks.
Josh, based on your diagram. The last switch is a 3-way switch. I'd like to add an outlet to this 3-way switch. Is it possible? I've tried, but I'm missing the neutral wire.
Would you ever show putting in a 50 AMP outlet? I have watched a number of videos on it but I really like the way you approach and teach how to do things. Just asking?
Only like an advance you need put the color conections on your board and this tutorial is completed and then you pass to the life real it is good tutorial
Where does the load wire go in the circuit? Question is can the load wire come off 2 separate switch, basically 2 loads feed same circuit on opposite sides of the house?
One quick question just replaced a four-way switch in my house. It did not have a ground wire attached. The new switch requires one . What do I do from here?
One frustrating part I've had with box store switches, not saying it can't happen a a supply house with commercial grade, one 3way switch being bad. Knowing it was wired correctly, and still not working. Can be irritating as well. Patience is always good know matter what you do. 👍🏻
Good point! Bed switches or a real thing. I remember the first house I wired had one and it drove me crazy until I figured out that was the problem. Thanks again!
Sorry brother, but this is not a good example of a beginners explanation of a typical 4 way switch system. It’s a bit confusing and doesn’t clearly explain the most current and typical 4 way switch system. I’ve wired a few of these and your description left ME a bit confused….
I followed the instructions and it works for dumb switches, but fails when I put a smart switch on the main switch. Any advice on how to wire it up for a smart switch? I’m using a TP Link Kasa 3way.
I have 4 switches. 2 in my Laundry room and 2 in my half bath. Laundry room is only for light and bathroom controls fan and light. All black wires in bathroom. My laundry room lights work correctly. Bathroom not at all. What am i doing wrong?
For me you are the number one profession. Now I see so many trouble like this when you got the drywall in the middle. Please you need to do in differently way. It's hard to understand the way to doing like this
You used different terms when pointing out than when showing the diagram. What you showed as "Power" to sw1, you called Common. Then no mention of a "traveler" until you point them out.
Can you please do a wire diagram . Your video was near perfect . I just understand better when I see diagram . Live video isn’t helping if I have to pause and play .
Best way to deal with 3 way or 4 way switches is to leave them at the store. One light one switch. One shot one kill. I've built three houses and never missed a three or 4 or 5 or 6 way switch. Toggle up light is on toggle down off. Keep it simple. Don't needlessly complicate your lives by 4 way switches or multiple polygymous marriages.

The delivery and amount of detail of your videos is amazing. Thank you for your videos !
Thank you for letting me know. I’m glad you are enjoying my videos. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the easy to follow video and explanation. After 2 months I finally got my 4-way switch working.

Awesome! These are fairly common switches. I’m glad the video was helpful for you. Good luck with your project!
Very informative thank you. I plan on adding this to my living room so i can switch my lights on an off from my main enterence hallway and garage. It;s so convienient.😎
Lucky me this is exactly how I ran this circuit! ***SKIP TO **5:48** if you’re looking for the 4 way switch***
I really enjoy watching your videos, I have been learning a lot, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge God bless.
U r the Best. Amigo !!

Awesome. Thank you!
Next time bring the power in on one 3 way and the light in the other 3 way so you'll have a neutral in each switch box.
Rite that's the only way I've ever done it power on one 3 way and switch leg on the other
I agree
Yeah he confused me with that but your guys are right

Very nice 👍
I appreciate that. Good luck with your projects!
I've never heard someone talk so fast in an intro before XD Had no idea what you said :P
yes boy rizz up those 4 way switches, turn them all on

He's got a video on a 4 wire dryer outlet. Same as wiring a 50a. Hope this helps

@@TheExcellentLaborer yep, the same feeling.
I have an issue I have 3 black wires and 1 red. Not sure what to do

I agree too
I am glad I am not the only one who felt this way. I thought I knew but watched this video and left confused.
@haunthunterify i have made a clear video with too much explanation, but i haven't uploaded yet, i will upload the video if you guys still stock
@@mixofall2574would love to see it
How do u add some new lights to a existing four way system? Power comes in the middle
I followed the instructions and it works for dumb switches, but fails when I put a smart switch on the main switch. Any advice on how to wire it up for a smart switch? I’m using a TP Link Kasa 3way.
Lmfao. This is not a smart switch. You probably shouldn’t be doing electrical work if you don’t know the answer to this
I have 4 switches. 2 in my
Laundry room and 2 in my half bath.
It's hard to understand the way to doing like this
how is the white wire tied into the the switch, I know it is tied into the power but I am not understanding how you connect it to the switch
The neutrals only go to the final light fixture. They get tied together back behind the switches. They don’t go on the switch
i am bilding my own office and i need to put up new wooden frams and owtiet box and you toght me how to do all of that
You have all the right wires why not do it the right way-line to 3way-3way to 4way-4way to 3way-3way to load.
Shouldn't the switch leg land with the 12-3? We're not supposed to have a hot and switch leg in the same switch.
This is what they call a California 3 Way
Your diagram is showing what I believe is called a "Dead Leg 3-Way" arrangement. Isn't this no longer allowed by code?
Why did you connect 2 v
Black wires in the end looks a white one
Drawing is wrong. Light needs to be after last three way, not the first.
It depends on what is running through those wires. Source could come into to any of the 4 j boxes
I need to send you some color markers. For your board . Then you can draw it in wire color
Why 20 amp rated ( yellow) wiring ??
What I'm having problem with is it's a old house and the switch is back fed from the light
Electrical tape
Sounds to me like a typical clem job
I need a brain eraser after watching this.

You used different terms when pointing out than when showing the diagram. What you showed as "Power" to sw1, you called Common. Then no mention of a "traveler" until you point them out.
Umm excuse me can u do a 4 diagram on the left side plss
Why is so impossible to find someone doing a 4 way switch to control 3 lights.. for instant 3 bedrooms each controlling a patio light.
Can you please do a wire diagram . Your video was near perfect . I just understand better when I see diagram . Live video isn’t helping if I have to pause and play .

Not very clearly displayed
How could anyone learn anything from this video. Lots of irrelevant details
What tf did he say in the intro???????
Too much talking not enough action
Stfu and pick another video
Dude is backstabbing switches .... JFC.....
confused the shit out of me
Very poor example
Is not clear to see what kind wire you are using !!! You just wast my time !!? Not know what going on !!!?
