    Story Summary :-
My husband, Brenn, passed away suddenly a few months ago, and it was devastating for both me and our families. Brenn and I had a beautiful home, and we lived there for over 20 years. We built our life together in that house, and it held so many memories.
Enter my sister-in-law (SIL), Maria. She's always been a bit distant from the family, but we never thought she would stoop to this level. Just a few weeks after Brenn's death, Maria started hinting at wanting our house. At first, I thought she was grieving in her own way, but it soon became clear she had ulterior motives.
I decided to consult a lawyer as Maria became increasingly aggressive in her attempts to take our home. She claimed that Brenn had promised her the house in case anything happened to him, but we couldn't find any proof of this supposed agreement.
To make matters worse, she filed a lawsuit against me to claim the house. It was an emotionally draining time, but I knew I had to stand my ground. Little did I know, this was just the beginning of the chaos.
During the lawsuit proceedings, my lawyer dug deeper into Maria's background. What he discovered left us all stunned. Maria is adopted, which, of course, doesn't mean she's entitled to anything, but it is just the tip of the iceberg.
We also found out that Maria had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and dementia. Her medical reports clearly showed her condition. I couldn't believe it. It seemed like she was trying to take advantage of her condition and use it against me, but when I connected with her daughter, I got to know that she was indeed suffering from a mental disorder after the sudden demise of her husband in a road accident.
Once we had this crucial information, we presented it to the court. Maria's case began falling apart as her lawyers struggled to explain why she believed she deserved the house when she was clearly dealing with serious mental health issues.
The court dismissed Maria's case, and she won't be able to pursue any further legal action against me for the house. Not only did the court rule in my favor, but it also ordered Maria to undergo a psychological evaluation. It's heartbreaking to see her deteriorate like this, but I had to protect my home and our memories.
I hope Maria gets the help and support she needs to cope with her health issues. It's a sad situation all around, but at least my husband's memory and our home are safe.

This reminds me of a story that a family friend that was entitled that she actually thought she heard the op's mom say she was going to get the house and op would take care of them. She tried to move into the house after the will was read and op was the one who got the house. She tried to use op as a freaking servant and threw a MASSIVE tantrum when hearing she didn't get the house. It got to the point she refused to leave, cops were called, threw another massive tantrum, and refused to leave til she was threatened with arrest. She spammed op's phone and manipulated op's family against op to try to get the house. She was so delusional that she kept saying that the house was her's.
I'm betting it's the case with this witch too. I'm not surprised that she tried to sue op for the house and made false accusations to try to get her way. People like this are so delusional and entitled it's not funny. Update 2, not surprised that she's making up a story to force her way. But the stupidity to not have anything to back up her lies. Yeah, her delusional, entitled mind expected to be granted the house despite having no evidence. Talk about fishy and suspicious when she never told about her husband being deceased. Begs the question of what else has she not said about and lied about in her life? Update 3, oh wow. That woman NEEDS professional help ASAP with that MANY mental issues. No wonder why she believes that her brother left the house to her when he didn't and believed her made up story was true.

Don't You think His wife would have known ahead of time before the husband passed!!
Why in the world did Maria even wait till he was dead???
She never spoke of it before she is one of those sly people.
I say she doesn't get the house at all I think she is lying 1 because they never ever seen her at all or like Once in 30 years??

Never drag your feet when someone is trying to overstay their welcome. Grow a spine and set firm boundaries. They are not in charge in your home! You are! If they refuse to leave, pack their stuff, put it outside, and call them a cab. Then tell them if they still refuse to leave that you will call the police to report that they are trespassing. Don't argue with them, as it will only give them the impression that you are weak enough to be bullied into giving them what they want if they argue with you long enough.

There are stipulations someone can put in their will that a DNA test would be required to inherit any part of the estate.

I recommend adopting to everyone. ❤❤❤ 8m sorry you get treated as less then when my experience is adopting is just the same in my eyes. Maybe cause he started when I was a toddler but I don't see my siblings as different like my older blood siblings do. They love me more if anything. I trust them more but maybe that's cause my mom raised them and my dad raised my adopted siblings.

i am not against allowing your guest to stay in your place, when they come to see you from a different state, country, or far off place. But I would never put up with any guest bossing over my family in my house, let alone anywhere else. When someone speaks legal issues or rights, don't argue with them because nothing will come out of it, lawyer up and use the law. Don't wait for them to make the move, you have to make your first move.

Interesting story, but the idea that the SIL being adopted means she wasn’t his sister or that she had no rights to inherit family property is completely false. When a child is adopted in the US (this story sounds like it’s here because of how it mentions her kids being in Canada multiple times) one of the papers adoptive parents sign state that the child is now considered to be legally part of their family and would inherit just as any biological child would they might have. Legally you can’t distinguish between adopted and biological kids when inheritance is involved and if someone did try to do so the adopted individual could then rightfully contest the will.

  • @nancyoneill-buck6033

In all 50 states and Canada and most of the free world a surviving spouse inherits .everything even without a will.the only way this could happen is if she had a signed will that was prepared by a lawyer. So this could never happen. So how could this actually happen? It couldn't unless they were living in the AI world.

  • @legojenn
    @legojenn 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think that SIL is lying. I'm in Canada and have not seen any paperwork pertaining to this case.
Seriously though, it was a little messed up that the partner's parents excluding the adopted daughter if indeed it's because she's adopted. Dwelling on the cross-border stuff was irrelevant to the story. What bothers me and it may come off as judgemental, though it's just an expression of annoyance at an unwanted dilemma, is how frustrating it can be when someone's mental illness can have such a negative impact on people completely unconnected to the affected individual. It cost OP and her family in time, money and was a drain on their mental health. If SIL's behaviour was down to her mental illness, then it's not fair to hold her liable, but that doesn't make the suffering of unconnected folks go away. I hope that all get the care that they need.
