FIFTY YEARS OF THE CLASS 50

The British Rail Class 50 was a class of 50 off diesel locomotives designed to haul express passenger trains at 100mph. Built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows between 1967 and 1968, the Class 50's were initially employed hauling express passenger trains on the, then non-electrified, section of the West Coast Main Line between Crewe and Scotland.
Following electrification of that line they were transferred to the Western Region.
The locomotives booked for the celebration are:
50007 Hercules
50008 Thunderer
50015 Valiant
50017 Royal Oak
50026 Indomitable (on static display)
50031 Hood
50033 Glorious
50035 Ark Royal
50044 Exeter
50049 Defiance
50050 Fearless
The first clip was filmed on October 1st in order to feature 50033 Glorious which did not work on the northern end of the line on October 4th, the day that the remainder of this video was shot. 50026 Indomitable does not appear.

What lovely weather for it. That spot by Hampton Loade station looks particularly nice this time of year. 50008 looks great on the ballast train.

Yes, that side of the line at Hampton is a favourite of mine, I guess the conifer reminds me of the S&D!

Excellent video and camera work sir! At 1:58 it's amazing how much it looks like a model train set, an interesting illusion for sure. The beauty and sound of those locomotives and carriages rolling through the amazing English countryside is something to behold is it not? The guy at 19:01 seems ready to do a bit of trout fishing? I like 12:14 as well with the crane and the Crompton on standby, just in case it needs to stand in, thus recreating a Waterloo-Exeter train from the 1980s!

Thanks. I tried that shot a couple of years ago with SKP but it was just 15 minutes too late and being in a north/south valley the light quickly goes.I hadn't had the opportunity to try it again until Thursday./
