Yeah slight shift down, if you look at 27.5 gr load I shot poi was pretty similar. I think it will be good enough. This will be my first time in any type of shooting comp so I doubt the load will be the reason I drop some shots.
Rob, every Savage rifle I've ever had has always liked the hottest loads! My model 12 in 6mm Creedmoor is a great example 105gr. 43.7grs. of StsBALL 6.5 @ 3180fps it makes one ragged hole. My best 5 shot group was .25".
Epic! I shoot 108s and 105s with Varget as well for temp stability. In an autoloader I run 26.7 grains for .4-.6 moa and 2518 fps from an 18" proof barrel.
That 27.6 load is money. Great group, outstanding sd/es! (Glad you threw the es in there. I was really curious with the other loads what it was.) I played with VV N150 for my gas gun and got decent velocity out of it where I couldn't with VV N140. (Same burn rate as Varget) Can't wait to get my 6 ARC bolt gun built.
Great info. Building a 6 arc rn. My only critic is that once you think youve found a good load. You should run a 20rd group or more to see what the real spread is going to be. Even a 10rd group is not always indicative of the loads actual accuracy or your zero.
If going by the OCW method how do you think it translates into how this load development went. What do you think of the location of the impact point vertically of 27.5 and 27.6 with that in mind?
0.23"!!? That's amazing man, I'd hold onto that load as well. Mr. Rob, I see you still have extraction issues, have you contacted Savage about that? I did read they will send you a new extractor kit with a stronger spring, and the video of the guy I saw install that said it resolved the issue. On a timed stage, I wouldn't wanna be messing with extraction problems.
Yeah, some days it does drop the round before it kicks out of the action. If it continues to cause issues I will address it and contact savage. Seems to be hit and miss. I shot 15 rounds out of the gun yesterday in prep for the comp outout a hitch. But the most recent 2 6 arc videos I had a couple hiccups.
Do you find that an initial ladder test with brass that has not been fire formed yet (this test will fire form them) and one where the brass has already been fire formed have equal validity? I was curious as I just reformed 200 Lapua 6.5 Grendel brass to 6 ARC brass.
Brass for the initial testing was also fire formed. I would guess you would see small varience from loads prior to and after fire forming. Your results may differ however.
Hello Rob. Great channel, thanks for sharing. I'm down in New Zealand, shooting a Savage "Pairie Hunter" in 224 Valkyrie, my rifle is identical to yours (same XRS chassis) in every aspect apart from calibre. My load is 25.3 of Varget behind 88 VLDs giving 2740 ish. SD of 7 But I keep getting the odd flier (which I note happens with a lot of your groups too) and I wonder if its a issue with these rifles . . . Maybe something like inconsistent ignition due to something binding inside the bolt or the like??? Savage rifles do seem to gave their share of manufacturing quirks e.g. ejection and J cant help wondering if this flier thing is another of them! It would be good to pin down the cause as these rifles are pretty good and could be superb if it was identified. Thanks Foster
I think generally a flyer is quite common with most of my guns. I'm either chalking it up to human error or small sample size. I'm guessing with 10-20 round groups you wouldn't see just 1 flyer.

No more than that 27.6 would be my new load.
My concern would be the impact shift of the 27.6 load. I would be tempted to go up another charge weight or shoot the 27.4 again.

27.6 is hard to argue with
No need to change anything with a group like that . That same load of Varget shoots great in my Grendel also .
I'm about to shoot some loads with Varget and grendel. Stay tuned video will probably be up next Saturday.
How far off the lands were these loads? In particular the 27.6 one?
