You did it. You listened to one of the greatest songs ever made.
I agree
facts
And hearing it live is so amazing
Now you are ready...
Marilyn Manson- Dried Up, Tied and Dead to the World
Lateralus is an absolute masterpiece. Just throw it on and close your eyes.
I love how stunned everyone gets when discovering TOOL, I've been a fan for 20 yrs and am still at a loss for words for how amazing they are
I always think the same thing! I'm like guys they have been around for almost 30 years now...but better late than never!! Once you discover Tool nothing is the same.
Same. They still amaze me like when I was 12. Amazing.
Agreed. I was a senior is high school when Opiate came out. I was immediately captivated. But 4 years later when AEnima dropped...so did my jaw...and it still drags the ground to this day. My TooL jaw...from having my mind blown every time I press play. The maestros to my life and it’s a beautiful thing.
I bought Undertow Right after I graduated from high school in 1993, been hooked since
I’m right there with you...I didn’t discover Tool until my 30’s! I’m now in my late 40’s and I love them even more now...
I feel like if we had to send one band to aliens to convince them intelligent species lived here; it would be TOOL
Yeah I've always thought this too. Without a common language the only medium of communication would be math, Tool's music would demonstrate a deep understanding of math and demonstrate that we are intelligent (some of the human race at least).
Marty G that is assuming they can’t read minds or have learned earthy languages through old television reruns floating around the solar system
@@andrewrankin1921 yep, but I feel the kind of trashy shit that goes out on TV would be a piss-poor reflection of our level of intelligence, thus why we need Tool :D
I support this.
And to let them know we had psychedelics, we'd send them some smooth ass Pink Floyd.

Withering my intuition leaving opportunities behind
Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line
Reaching out to embrace the random
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come
I embrace my desire to
I embrace my desire to
Feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow
To feel inspired to fathom the power, to witness the beauty
To bathe in the fountain
To swing on the spiral
To swing on the spiral
To swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human
With my feet upon the ground I lose myself between the sounds and open wide to suck it in;
I feel it move across my skin
I'm reaching up and reaching out; I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me
What ever will bewilder me
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been
Spiral out. Keep going
Spiral out. Keep going
Spiral out. Keep going
Spiral out. Keep goingOver thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines
Well played my friend
yep, and the irony of the verse lies in over analyzing the song...even though it could be analyzed, the joy is feeling the song. In my opinion anyways
🖤
'Polyrhythms as distinguished from irrational rhythms'
@@shawns9827 well said. I always knew, from the first listen, on the day the album debuted, this is a very special song, and the rappers are right, this could be one of the most impressive songs ever written. I will absolutely say that it very well may be the best piece of music written I'm the last 100 years for sure.
Ive seen this song hit people who understand music so deeply, they break down in tears.
guilty
@@claytonstoehr3650 me too.
Same. Tears and goosebumps. Gotta go into a quiet dark place with a good set of headphones and just listen to this album in the proper sequence. Life changing.
I absolutely burst into tears every single time I listen… it moves something deep within me… an energy that cannot be observed… yet
Nothing i could do about it either lol
For me, it's important to remember the context of this 20 year old record. When this was made, the top selling bands were: Nickelback, Staind, Creed, Linkin Park, etc. And Tool go away for a few years and write this. Nothing had sounded like this record beforehand. I hope, when you're finished with your Tool Tuesdays, that you go back and find a quiet 80 minutes, lie down and listen to this record from start to finish. Their other records are all great, but this one, in its correct order, is something else.
All the best from the UK.
Nickleback...When one listens to Tool, how Nickelback can still resonate with anyone...is baffling.
A Perfect Circle's So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, is probably Maynard's most pop song, ever, and I'm convinced, he wrote that just to give the middle finger to every Nickelback, Fallout Boy band out there...saying, essentially, "I can even do this better than you!"
Maynard, Adam, Danny and Justin, singularly, keep me faithful in humanity....that we can still create beauty, intelligence and depth...relevance.
This goes for all their albums. Alice In Chains, too.
Ænima is probably my favorite Tool album but Lateralus is still ridiculously amazing and is easily within my top 3 albums of all time
and with their release of fear inoculum: outsold taylor swift, who also includes concert tickets and merch to her album purchasers. i will recommend tool to anyone, with any album. its practically gospel to me at this point. music should be thought provoking, powerful and timeless.
Tool was relevant during the time of the bands you mentioned. You may find some underground that TOOL is the greatest!
Maynard was probably so happy when he figured out “infinite possibilities” was 8 syllables
True lmao
If he needed 7 he could have gone with “infinitely possible”
that's ART
Tim: This is why you’re not in the band. 😉
Turn that 8 sideways.
"Legend has it Danny Carey made a deal with the devil. No one really knows what Danny got, but the devil got drum lessons." (not mine, I read that and now I'm using it. All props to the original ;)
😂😂 love this
I like to think its the Tenacious D devil who is coincidently amazing at drums. Might be Dave Grohl but who knows.
thats awesome lol
Thanks! 😆
My new favorite thing in the world is watching people react to tool songs. They have been one of my favorite bands for over 20 years. Watching people discover the greatness of this band makes my heart happy.
Wait til you get to "Fear Inoculum" and realize he snuck the word "mitosis" into the exact center of the song. Dudes a wizard alien.
Wait what. Holy fuck.
I just went and tried it. WHAT IS THIS MAN!?
Oh my.....god
What the hell
Parabol is a parabol and peaks at half point.
"Math is not something we created, it was something we discovered."
I like that one.
clever people tell me that's not the case but my eyes glaze over when they try to explain how
@@sidarthur8706 It's not hard. The symbolism is invented. The relationships they attempt to describe are discovered.
Tater N yea that's the naïve view that i go by but people tell me that it's deeper than that, it's all invented. i think that wittgenstein's way of putting it was that since maths is abstract it doesn't correspond to anything in reality and has no obligation to be true, mathematicians make it up to suit themselves. so in maths you can have negative numbers and imaginary numbers that are purely abstract with no relation to anything in the world. it looks like it has to be true that things like positive integers and adding up relate to real things in the world but even that may not be the case since it took russel and whitehead 300 pages to get to a proof of 1+1. even that's had to be made up. as i say i don't understand these things well, i just assume that smarter people than me know better
@@sidarthur8706 Seems like a silly argument or I'm missing something. All symbolism/descriptions of reality are "abstract". Math isn't special. Might as well say "dog" doesn't correspond to reality then.
Tater N but the word 'dog' does exactly correspond with something in reality and to say that dogs exist is a true proposition in specific contexts according to wittgenstein's philosophy. o and don't try to find clarification in what i'm telling you, i can only tell you what i understand of it. you'd be better off reading about it yourself. also it should be noted that not all mathematicians think that maths is invented. but then not all mathematicians are great
"We feel like we're not saying enough." Side effects from listening to Tool include: speechlessness, a sense of awe struck, a deep reconnection to buried feelings, restlessness, mild fever, and a sense that you can now die happy.
meh, when i first listened to tool when i was 10, i was like, "haha guitar go dewdewdewdew"
Coincidentally, all ALSO symptoms of covid....
The Golden angle of the Fibonacci sequence is 137.5°
The intro to the song is 1min37.5 seconds long. Love that
Also the song is 9min 24 seconds long. 924 is a Fibonacci number
It's one of the many reasons Tool is so intriguing. Everything is thought out and done for a reason and it's up to us to find it. For instance Intermission leading into Jimmy is 56 seconds long. 5 + 6 = 11
Gabo Luján uhh 924 isn’t a number in the sequence. However 987 is and I’m pretty sure at some point in the song the time signature changes from 9/8 to 8/8 to 7/8 so it’s still in there. But the length of the song doesn’t match up with the Fibonacci sequence
@@joshturner9778 the bars in the chorus go: 9/8, 8/8, 7/8, 9/8, 8/8, 7/8, 9/8, 8/8, 7/8. The fact that they can make a cohesive song where the time signature changes every bar like that is amazing enough in itself.
@@gabolujan this actually isn't right, 987 is a fibonacci number. Which was going to be the original name of the song because of the time changes, 9/8 8/8 7/8. Which is even weirder.
Welcome to having a "tool moment"
We used to drive out on a hill at night, smoke a fatty, listen to tool and stare at the stars.
I would suggest anyone and everyone try it!
Now that sounds fun
@@Hollywood6IX the whole enima album is a big suggestion
Don't forget to bring ur mushrooms. Says Bill Hicks

And yes, highly recommend going out to the middle of wherever, with Tool and whatever mood enhancement of your preference, and f'ing Spiral Out! ❤🤘🤘🤘❤
Lateralis inspired me to eat 'shrooms in the woods, and I performed naked rituals beside a fire... true story. The rituals really just occured to me spontaneously, inside that multi-colored kaleidoscope that the music made, all around me.
It ain't just Maynard. The band writes the music before he ever starts writing lyrics. He lets the musical composition create the lyrics which he does pretty quickly. What I'm trying to say is all 4 of them are genius and together, they are one of the greatest bands of all time.
I STILL get chills everytime I listen. And I've been listening to it at least once a week since high school.... I'm 35
I’m 49 and I do too .
Yup, 39 here. I do the same.
Me too!
37 next month and still do.
37, ditto
If you want a different, vulnerable, emotional side of Maynard, PLEASE take a listen to Wings for Marie 1&2.
It might have you in tears, its such a beautiful homage to his mother.
Love it!! Makes me tear up pretty much every time I listen to it
I was about to leave a comment saying almost exactly this!
You’ve done Judith. It’s time for 10,000 Days 1&2. Both tracks back to back. Bring tissues.

Take this person’s advice! Wings part 1 and 2 back to back same video. Please!!!
"We can't keep interrupting this masterpiece"

Exactly how that went down for me too
There's a reason why YEARS go by between their albums. Perfection takes a minute!
Guys stoned af listening to Tool. Pretty much my high school experience
Maynard is a genius. But so is every member. I believe it was Danny Carey who sparked the idea overall.
Correct. This was Danny's idea. It was one conceived during the creation of the songs for Ænima, though held off until they came together to bounce around ideas for this album. Supposedly, after Danny proposed the idea, they joked about it, then took it overly serious, then dialed it back down to just one song.
MiSo Scraben I did a VIP show once. And Adam Jones said that Danny noticed some of the sequence in one of Adam’s riffs one day. And since it happened pretty much naturally they decided to take it deeper. So if the original idea of making a song that follows the Fibonacci sequence happened back in the Ænima, I think it’s pretty incredible that even though they already had the idea to make a song that way, the riff Adam played loosely followed the sequence without them applying the idea to the riff. It happened naturally regardless. As if it was just meant to be.
@@CampSiteVlogs Which falls into the theory of destiny. Plus, the basis with the Fibonacci regard might've been applying too much towards Aenima, if they did proceed with addressing and developing it, then. So, it, more than likely, helped to expand their solutions further with the delay.
Carey is the heartbeat of the band. It's why Maynard standd by him so he can hear him bc he's a genius drummer and musical artist. Never has a band been more centered around the drummer. Hes the best ever hands down.
“ this might be the greatest song in history”
Maynard on JRE “I feel like I could do better”
Lol I like how Maynard even said this song was very “elementary” in that interview
MJK was trolling hard on Rogan
One of their best songs, without a doubt
With out a doubt , Not even close
One of THE best songs in history
Agreed. Even Rolling Stone put it on their top 100 of all time.
Third eye, Rosetta stoned, 7empest and Right in Two as well...
When you listen to Tool, you dig for two hidden treasures: The meaning of the song, and the meaning of yourself.
The meaning of the universe
The meaning of life is Tool
I’ve been listening to TOOL since the late 90s..I’ve listened to this song thousands and thousands of times..seen it played live twice. Seeing you guys react to it is like hearing for the first time all over again! I see a lot of youtubers posting TOOL reactions just for the views and I can pick them out. You guys definitely understand it. Welcome to the army brothers!
The breakdown in the middle section is a trip:
- Justin starts out playing triplets, which gives it a 3/4 feel
- Adam and Maynard come in with 4/4
- Danny plays in 5/4 over this
It gives it that spinning type feel, like a spiral.... after all the math lines up, they come together and end the section in 4/4 together
987 is a Fibonacci number 😉
@@macgonzo This is true. Before the band even knew about this, they referred to the song's working title as "987" (which was the '9-8-7' riff Justin came up with).. during a rehearsal at the time, a friend stopped by and noticed, "oh, 987 is a number in the fibonacci sequence"... Maynard then wrote the lyrics to the music and based it off this. 👍
@tidewell when does that part start? I want to hear what you're talking about
@@aidang1171 The middle section starts right at 11:08 in this video... Danny's drums come in at 11:58 (has a spinning feel playing 5/4 over the band playing in 4/4).. the band all comes together at 12:40 and it feels in sync again in 4/4.
That's a 10/4. Roger that.
Oh lord, it's happening, is like a baptism
XD
I bought the album on release day. Right now as the opening breaks and "black and white is all I see" begins...........I still get goosebumps
I know I was in a religious like trance state while listening with them, rocking back and forth with my eyes closed to the beat. Hyper Tribal Cyber Spiritual Sonic Baptism
Tool is its own genre. Kind of like Jonny Cash or Nirvana.

Also thank you! Been requesting this one for a while.

All time favorite. This is a MUST. the transition into Parabola..... 😳😳😳
Ooooh siii Parabol!!!
Now this is a reaction! I love that you guys don't pause the music and start talking in between like so many other reaction channels do. Ya'll enjoy the music first and then break it down. I have so much love and respect for that!
I love seeing Tool fans form before my eyes. I started with just one song (Wings for Marie/10,000 days), then turned into a few, and now, literally all a million times 🤣🤣
That's an interesting one to start with. To me thats a song that especially appeals to die hard tool fans like me, not like their radio hit type stuff like sober or the pot. So if you started there and got into them, respect 👊
Looked like Smokedawg was having a religious experience.
I love how you guys get into their music but your laying all the genius at Maynards feet. What makes these guys such a phenomena is how Adam, Justin and Danny write the music first then hand it off to Maynard and he throws on such awesome lyrics. It’s the music that puts you in a trance and the lyrics keep you from falling in and give you a story. Keep on rocking!!
From my understanding the band started making the song and wrote it in incorporating the sequence into it. Like tile signatures and the length of the song is a number in the sequence, etc. They told Maynard so he contributed with his lyrics. He wasn’t the initial driving force behind the idea. He just added his genius along with the other 3 geniuses.
Usually people shout Maynard or Adam or Danny's names... and yet Justin's bass has always been one of the cornerstones of Tool. Very few people give Justin due recognition, but many do recognize the impact of his bass grooves. I guess that's the curse of the bass player in any band.
Def Justin, Danny, and Adam in the top ten of what they do.
liquididentity101 I don’t know what a master at something really is, but I know that the 3 musicians behind ( or in this case in front of ) Maynard are head of the class in their instruments. For damn sure!
Your absolutley right...as a whole they are all special and create the monster known as TOOL
Maynard is great but all 4 them are! It's the group together that makes it so epic
Agreed
I would even argue Maynard isn't the most talented in the group. Perfect harmony. Each member is a master of their craft and they come together in perfect balance.
@@winterout265 I agree. Maynard is like the cherry on top
Danny carries Tool. 🥁

OMFG. THE SONG FROM THE ALBUM. The looks on your faces says it all. I had the pleasure of hearing this masterpiece live 3X almost 20 years ago. It was the most magical moment of the concert. Tears of joy were shed gentleman.
Ok guys, so since I haven't seen this mentioned so far I'm gonna leave this here, and my apologies... it's gonna be a bit long.
Words in all caps are key terms you can look up on Wikipedia.
As you noted, the song is built on the Fibonacci sequence, but also it has some heavy lyrical roots in Spiritual ALCHEMY and the work of JUNG and NIETZSCHE.
In Alchemy, people are born and grow through a process known as TRANSMUTATION, starting with NIGREDO (blackening or necrosis), ALBEDO (whitening or ablutio), CITRINITAS (yellowing or xanthosis), and finally RUBEDO (reddening or iosis). This is the process by which the PHILOSOPHER'S STONE (also called the MAGNUM OPUS or "GREAT WORK") is created.
So when Maynard says "Black then White are all I see, in my infancy. Red and Yellow then came to be, reaching out to me, lets me see."
He is referring to a growth or change in his Spirit through Alchemy.
This sort of growth is mentioned in several tracks by Tool (notably 46&2), and is also heavily featured in the writings of Carl Jung and Friedrich Nietzsche.
Alchemy also holds dear the concept of the GOLDEN RATIO, also called PHI or ϕ.
1.618 is the approximate value for Phi, and is what you mentioned in the video about living creatures and art having proportions built on this idea (spirals on shells, Leonardo DaVinci's paintings, etc).
Hope this helps, and I gotta say, I loved this reaction. Keep spiraling out guys and awesome content! 🤘

@@meb882 it took me dozens of listens to fully appreciate that song. I enjoyed it for a long time but didn't "get it". Once it clicked for me I fell in love. It changed how I view and listen to music. For me, it's the only music that never gets old or stale.
@@bdizzle2144 I'm an old dude so I tend to stick to my opinion more than I should. I play this song for brother and I get so pissed when he doesn't get it(he"s older than me and everything in the 70s is the best...blah blah). There is not a better song than Lateralus, anywhere, ever. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it :-). Glad you like it as well.
As a drummer watching this video was even more epic!!! Tool is literally not of this world. I've been drumming for almost 30 years. And hands down. Tool. Great video!
What's so cool is, no matter the difference in musical tastes between me and you guys, you had the PROPER reaction to this Tool song .. you get ...you feel the flow, the beauty within the chaos. The look on your faces in this clip say it all .... fucking rock on
Huge Tool fan, great seeing other people come to the light in real time! Awesome guys!
When one closes their eyes and find themselves warped into the weave of a song, it’s one of the most gratifying feeling one can hope for.
The sheer musicianship of Tool gives me cold chills. The intelligence of the composition gives me a visceral emotional response. The only other bands I get this way about are Rush and Frank Zappa. This is the kind of music that must be remembered.
U can watch that Wizard of Oz, Dark Side mesh on you tube. I remember back in high school droppin a dose and matching up the Wizard VHS with The Dark Side CD. Oh the memories...
Peace Love n Light fellas!!
you two are such good friends, i love it. this was amazing to share with you both. thank you.
can't get enough of the fetuccini sequence ...
Lol fetuccini
Lmfao
Those ravioli numbers man.... its taggliatelli-ing my mind ^^
This is the best song I’ve ever heard.
Experimenting with more complex rhythmic patterns is actually extremely common in music. In European history - yes, Beethoven did it. So did Chopin, Mozart, Bach, and any number of musicians. It's even more common in some other music traditions, such as many forms of African drumming. When it's done poorly, adding rhythmic complexity can get meaningless, but done well it can be very intense, as in Lateralus here. Another well-known example is Igor Stravinsky's ballet "Le Sacre du Printemps" or in English, "The Rite Of Spring". Stravinsky doesn't use the Fibonacci sequence but he does use some other fairly complex rhythmic groupings, and in its domain is also considered one of the great musical works of the 20th century. In my humble opinion, there are many great recordings of this by various orchestras, but as it was originally a ballet, it's best to first experience this as a ballet, with the dancing and staging, and not just as an orchestral concert.
My first experience with the Rite was actually the suite of excerpts used in the dinosaur sequence from Fantasia.
Also give " The Humbling River" a listen to by Puscifer, Maynard's side project. You won't regret it.
True. I like the new one too. Apocalyptical.
Cuntry Boner
The Humbling River is amazing!
One of my favorites from Puscifer
Two years late to the party but still: I'm crying and laughing right now. So many emotions.
You don't just listen to Tool... you experience them...
Welcome to the club boys!!
Love your reactions as well!!
Lost Keys leading into Rosetta Stoned would be perfect for you guys as well! Essentially the story of a DMT trip, weird as fuck but amazing too. Having the lyrics on-hand would definitely be beneficial if you want to have an idea of some parts of it lol
I just said the same thing and then read through the comments and saw this. Agreed 100%
Agreed. Lyrics in hand are key.
that song is the purest essence of tool
With a lyric video pls
Lipman Conjuring is actually a DMT reference.. if you listen to all 3 tracks, it fits into the storyline
- The song's main character is having mescaline with the Lipman tribe on a reservation near Area 51
- He passes out from the experience
- Wakes up in the hospital and Lost Keys begins
- He recalls the story in Rosetta Stoned
I look forward to Tuesday’s to watch your Tool reactions. Keep them coming. However you need to experience them live to truly appreciate their talent. Your heads will explode. Keep the reactions coming. Plenty of great songs remaining. 🤘🏽🎧🔧
Their faces as soon as the song ends and their overall reaction, is what Tool does.
Really enjoying watching your guys TOOL journey. Watched you guys react to Sober and can't get enough. Been a TOOL fan for 25 years and love watching people discover how amazing they are.
The throbbing beat you hear playing along with the guitar in the beginning is a bird's heartbeat, I'm not lying.
First album I bought for myself with my own money at 17 yrs old. I first heard the album Opiate at age 8 through my older siblings and their friends. Their music has truly molded me through the years, so when I hear this, my soul still takes off.
“Math and Music are the 2 universal languages.”
Yes! THANK YOU!🙏🏻🙌🏻
Now you know why we say "spiral out".
You guys reviewed by far the most complex song ever created, not just the lyrics are in the sequence, but the music itself is also in the sequence as well. Much respect to you guys for this review.
Holy shit man ... I love it ... you guys soooooooo got it. You felt it and heard it for real. I love it. I'm very happy right now. If I hadn't already subscribed to you, this breakdown would make me want to. I love it. You guys jumped right in and just FELT it. Hard to find REAL music lovers out there. I'd love to spend a day just burning and jamming with you guys
"This might be the most impressive song... in history"
HE'S BEGINNING TO LEARN.
;D
As I listened to this for the thousandth time I suddenly thought “I’m glad I live in this dimension”
“Music and math are the two universal languages.”
This ☝🏼
The brilliance of that reality is that music IS math! Each beat, each note, each time signature is a mathematical fraction. 🤓
Amazing. And for some reasons I'm honestly happy to see someone lighting a smoke on TH-cam! If a band drives the need it will be Tool!
Years ago, I accidentally took too much acid and found myself in a horrible place, at the edge of sanity. This song, alone, gave me the ground to stand upon while I weathered the storm. I'll always be grateful for that.
Fun fact: The last two minutes of this song are my favorite two minutes in music.
That is a fun fact!
From 4:30 - 6:30 in descending is also an amazing moment in music
You should try Beethoven's third symphony, second movement, starting at about 21:30. About the same level intensity, but a different kind. Though as all such pieces of music, you need to get into the mood and grasp the music that leads to that moment, before you can actually appreciate and enjoy it.
@@bigfatfannie i might try listening to this next time i listen to classical. I like listening to it before and after i practice my erhu.
Its beautiful. The lyrics just give me a transcendent experience.
maynards lyrics and vocals definitely seem to resemble native american chanting and praying vocal styles, and i dont think its a coincidence. all his music is entrancing on all levels. mental, physical & spiritual. He even works in rhythm that matches heart beats on some songs. multi level experience
What's crazy is the pyramids are built in a fibonacci sequence, and Smokey has a pyramid on his shirt! Was that planned?? 🤣
Completely by accident, but the universe is definitely working with us. There have been a bunch of coincidences going on with me and smokey
@@Hollywood6IX it's no coincidence. There are no coincidences, ever. It is all on purpose by the universe to help you remember who we are. This is what Maynard has been say ng since the 80's when he first stepped onto the stage with undertow.
This has got to be the best reaction to Tool EVER!!!
I love Tool reaction videos. This was REALLY good
"you have to be a genius for one"
"which maynard is"

A real mind-*** is trying to count out the beat as it alternates nearly every MEASURE. It's like Maynard looked at 7/8 and went "this is way too easy". The chorus alternates from 7/8 to 8/8 to 9/8. (789 is the 16th fibonacci number) and the rest of the song flips into 3/4, 4/4, 5/4 and even more 7/8. It throws you if you're trying to figure the beat and they throw what SEEMS to be two obvious 3/4 at you and then it's a 5/4.
.
In a few places the different parts go out of sync too with different times, unifiying only once a common factorial is met. CRAZY!
Jesus bud lol that is crazy they made it sound good!
Maynard wrote the lyrics but he didn't compose the song.
Danny Carey says, "It was originally titled 9-8-7. For the time signatures. Then it turned out that 987 was the 16th number of the Fibonacci sequence. So that was cool."
I think that's what is confusing a lot of (slower) people. The songs time signature isn't changing every measure in accordance with the fibonache sequence. Anyone claiming to be a musician (even a rapper) should be able to count out the timing. Tools musical talent (mainly Danny) is out of this world, but the fact that these two can't handle counting rhythm in anything other than standard 4/4 makes me cringe. The song constantly stays in x/8 (meaning we are just doubling the size of our measures in lamens terms) and then counting out 9, 8 or 7 per measure (the 3 signatures in this song).
Tool Tuesday!!! Hope you guys researched this track before listening to it. Cant wait for tonight!!
I'm sorry for commenting again but nothing makes me happier than watching people discover Tool. The expressions on your faces say it all.
Musical genius, the Fibernaci sequence and the line about over analyzing and looking for patterns... genius... been listening to Tool since the 90's. Shrooms and that song will open your third eye, right up.
Echoes by Pink Floyd was actually recorded to score the last 25 minutes of 2001 a Space Odyssey. The last location text that comes up as Dave is leaving the ship is when you start the track. Check that out and get back to me about that OZ BS.
😮 I have to do this now.
It’s math and nature in art form expressed musically
Technically that's true of all music, even shitty music.
I love how this song turned everyone into numerologists, trying to find patterns in the rest of Tool's discography. Someone re-sequenced the tracks of the album based on the Fibonacci pattern and called it "The Holy Gift". Which is ridiculous and a little pretentious.. even for Tool. I've been a Tool fan since before Enima, but the Tool Army can be scary crazy.

The songs do somehow meld together pretty well with the tracks in that particular order though. 🧐whether they meant to or not who knows 🤠

Found you guys while I was listening to Tool. I'm glad you found them. 🤗😉
I've listened to this so many times in the last 15 years and I never knew about any of this. That is amazing...... Man, it just makes the song that much better
