    I switched from a drum style smoker/grill to a 22" weber 2 summers ago. I liked it so much I got rid of the drum because I found I never used it anymore. My only regret is it is so well built that now that I am on my third year with it there is no sign of it wearing out enough for me to justify to the wife upgrading it. I tried leaving it out all winter...no rust, still pretty much like new. Damn well built weber...

    I like the 26" Weber. I have always used 22" Weber's, been through a lot of them. I have a good one and fixing to get my Dad's 22". Might be awhile but my next one will be the 26" one for sure. Good review Lyle!

    Being able to cook all on one level is very nice -to replace the WSM on long cooks -not sure about that but will love to see how it works for you. I love having the 26”er for party’s and such but still use the 22” when it’s just the wife and I.

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 22 wsm is definitely a different story than the 18 i have, but definitely dont like cooking on multiple levels. It did a great job on the pork butt this weekend, with no messy water pan to worry about. I used the drip and griddle to catch the drippings

    Great review of your new 26" kettle. Don't get rid of your growing Weber arsenal though. We have the 22" and 26" Kettle, 22" Deluxe Performer, and Smokey Joe. I recommend them ALL and could not select just one. Each Kettle does "most excellently" what it was designed to do. Why limit ourselves to one anyway? They are simply excellent Q/smoking machines and will last our lifetime and then some. I cannot say that for some of the other other brands I have hauled to the "rustbucket landfill" in disappointment. Cheers!

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have you considered doing a Slow n Sear vs Pit Barrel Cooker series?

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that would be two different kind of cooking styles. I think a slow n sear vs the weber kettle would be along the same lines. I think the pbc is more of a high temp cook

  • @shumardi1
    @shumardi1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lyle, playing around with the dimensions of that, I am having a hard time seeing getting three racks of ribs on the grate after subtracting the dimensions of the Slow n Sear XL. Do you think three racks are possible? On the other hand, if you are talking about chickens or pork chops, I see getting more on compared to the 22".

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think i had 3 racks of ribs on in my boiled vs smoked rib video. Take a look at that one

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not exactly sure how much charcoal fits in the large slow n sear. If you go to the website it may be there. If not check out their TH-cam channel and ask him directly. The channel is called adrenaline bbq

    • @shumardi1
      @shumardi1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Lyle. That was perfect. I didn't realize you made another video comparing the smoked and boiled ribs. It looks like prior to the shrinkage the grate will only hold two racks, but after they shrink up a bit it will hold three.

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I could fit 3 on there from the start. I usually trim that one fatty bone off of my ribs and smoke them later for other stuff

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have an 18 inch WSM. I would think the 22 would be a better choice. I usually buy my smokers and grills used, so I am usually limited

    I have the 18" Weber Smokey Mountain and I was thinking of also replacing it with the Weber 26" kettle. What did you end up doing? Does the 26" hold temps just as well? I also use the slow n sear on my 22" Weber kettle. I like my smokey mountain but it's a pain to clean and put away after use.

      My Wsm is an 18. I would have preferred a 22, but when buying used, you get what you can get. I got the WSM for $50 so I couldn't pass

  • @NeedaBoom

    Lyle,
    Longtime watcher. I am going to buy the 26in and the xl SNS. I do have one question though, can you put a full size aluminum to catch dripping with the slow n sear on the other size?

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah an aluminum pan would work. That 26 inch Kettle Grill has pretty much rendered my weber smokey mountain and pit barrel cooker obsolete

    • @jopflah416

    I know inflation and all, but I bought the 26" grill at HD about 7 years ago and it was only $159. Granted, it doesn't have the thermometer or the charcoal baskets, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra $170. Don't get wrong, I love the grill. I'm just glad I bought mine when I did.

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking

    @GrillingwithGrove 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question for you on the 26, you think you could fit a beer can chicken on it? I recently tired to set a small chicken standing up and couldn’t even do that on the smaller kettle.

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you could. I have done a couple beer can chickens on the 22 and never had issues. I got a beer can chicken holder that does make it a little tight, so when I use that, I cook on the charcoal grate and put the charcoal around the holder

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well. I can only speak on the 18 inch WSM. So first of all, I really don't like cooking on that lower rack. Second of all, I hate that water pan. As far as the duration of the cooks, I think they are pretty close. Keep in mind that I am using that slow n sear that really helps in those long cooks

    Wow Lyle, you spent money on a new grill? TH-cam $$$ must be good, J/k 😂. I had a 22" kettle, watched baby backs videos & bought a SnS. I then bought a 26" kettle last summer, & just used the SNS from my 22" in it. I really liked the 26" for smoking meats less than 6 hrs. I just use my 22" for hot & fast cooks, like burgers. I'm not sure why, but a few months later I bought a 22" WSM. I bought it for long slow overnight cooks like brisket. I haven't had a chance to try out the WSM yet, but I know it will go longer than the kettle. I only get about 6 hrs on my 26" kettle with the regular SnS. It'll be interesting to get your thoughts on the 2. Good video!

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never had a problem going over 12 hours using the slow n sear. That being said where I leve may have something to do with it. At a mile high coals do burn a little slower, but 6 hours seems a little short. I easily get the same length on this 26 as my 18 inch wsm. If I am going overnight, I may add a few more coals before I go to bed, and still wake up with plenty of coals. I am actually thinking of selling my WSM. The main reason to keep it is to do videos on it more than needing it

      No Hippie BBQ & Cooking thanks for the reply. I only get about 6 hrs, but I'm sure the leaks that I have don't help. I thought about getting the XL SnS for 26" kettle to hold more charcoal, but it's tough spending money on another SnS vs getting a WSM. I paid $300 for my 22" WSM, that was used 1x. I'll find out if I made the right choice for myself. Can't wait to see more videos on the 26"!

      You can also consider using the SNS you have and try using one of the charcoal baskets that came with the 26 as well

    problem is the leg system on the 26. to light for its size and weight. need a performer version or the stand like weber uses for their kamado.
    otherwise very versatile, easy to use. can get locked in at low temp and sustain. lots of reall estate for indirect
    if you get one plan on making a sturdy table for it, otherwise youll love it

    Thanks for such a wonderful review. MY first time coming across your channel. I just reached out to Weber also. They need to cut you some kind of deal. Your details were very thorough & appealing to the average Joe or Jane. (now I dont feel bad at all for this investment that I'm about to make. (Getting that 26 inch kettle baby!) Looking forward to your other posts. Best wishes for continued blessings and success.

  • @shumardi1
    @shumardi1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lyle, compare the 22" WSM to the 26" Kettle with Slow n Sear. You can lay three racks of ribs flat on the 22" WSM. Can you do the same with the 26" Kettle with SnS? Talk to me Lyle!

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. You can do 3 without the sns, 2 with. I can control the kettle enough on short cooks to where the sns isn't necessary. That being said, the reason I don't use my wsm as much isn't solely because the 26 inch kettle, but all of the other smokers I have available. If I'm doing 3 to 5 racks of ribs, I may use my pellet or offset smoker. 4 to 8 racks I may use my pit barrel cooker. My wsm is only an 18, so I really can't speak to its capacity, although i have a good idea. That being said, i would be completely happy if my only smoker was the wsm.

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking

      Got it. I have the 22" Kettle with SnS. I like it. I really do. But I still want a bit more capacity. I am trying to choose between the 22" WSM and the 26" Kettle with SnS. I am kind of leaning towards the 22" WSM. Help me!

    Hey Lyle long time viewer I love ya baby.I like shooting a little dice at the casinos and playing spades at home with friends and family. Now the 26 is my old favorite.never had one,but but love from afar.Now Ive been telling one of my younger sons(5 sons -2 daughters)of my afar love of the wsm 18.5 and the 26.75 was shocked when he chosed the 26,this weekend...as the 18 had relplaced the 26 in my mind. Giving credit to the Baby Back Maniac for sharing that he thought the 26 was all time bang for buck fav with the SNS now you to. For me you Barry Bonds Grand Slamed It with the Thermometer,Air Flow Damper,Them 20"S New Legs Attachment and YOUR UNIQUE CHAR BASKET PLACEMENT SYSTEM WHICH COULD GIVE GREAT VARIATION OF COALS IN BASKET AND BETWEEN BASKETS AND ALL AROUND BASKETS AND YOU COULD PUT A HALF SQUARE METAL AT BACK OF BASKET TIN FOIL A ALUM PLATE ON TOP AND HAVE ALL TYPES OF SPACE.WOW!!! WHAT A HIT.

      I was really ignorant about the 26. I had never seen one before this came. Me and Baby Back Maniac spoke on the phone about 4 times before I pulled the trigger. I'm glad I did. I have to agree that it is the best all around, most flexible cooker I have.

  • @shumardi1

    This is probably a dumb question, but do you need more charcoal to complete a cook with the 26" kettle compared to the 22"?

    • @NoHippieBBQCooking
      @NoHippieBBQCooking  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not necessarily, The beauty of it is that you can use more charcoal for those really long cooks. the 26 also comes standard with charcoal baskets that can be used to kind of shorten the with of the charcoal grate. Without the charcoal baskets or the slow n sear you would probably end up using more charcoal

    I sold my performer and wanted a stand alone, i looked all over for a 26 inch but no place had one set up. I went with a 22 inch copper and its a great grill. A few months went by and I finally saw an 26 inch and my jaw dropped at the difference. I would have got that on the spot if i would have seen it first. If anyone is debating between the two, get the 26. Maybe my 22 inch will suffer an unexpected accident? (smiley face)
